spoersmaal om prefikser

Hei. Jeg laerer Norsk. Jeg ser "for-" foran mange ord. Jeg tror det mener "before, toward, in front of", men Jeg er nysgjerrig på den andre delen av ordet.

forstå = "understand" = for + stand

forskjellig = "different"= for + ?. er det virkelig "reasonable" or "distinguishable?" "divisible?"

forsette = "continue" = for- + ?

What's the boundary between an exonym and an endonym?

In Norwegian the word for Germany is Tyskland. The Germans call their country Deutschland.

A y in Norwegian often replaces the u in the same word in other languages. Can't recall whether it's pronounced the same or near enough. In some dialects a t sounds like a d.

I'm thinking there must be places in Norway where the pronunciation of Tyskland is closer to how the average German says Deutschland than some smaller regions in Germany itself.

If so, then is Tyskland actually an exonym or just the endonym with an accent?

invitation etiquette?

I host about two dinner parties a month at my place. Guest list has been growing. Wanted to send out invites via SMS group chat. Almost never get a response if I do that. If I take the time to send out invites via individual text, I always get a response and more often than not, it's a yes. Almost ran out of chairs last time.

I think I'm missing something here. It looks like people generally want to come, but not if I send out a group invite.

I guess a direct text invite feels more personal? Guess I should just bite the bullet and do the texts one at a time.

Photography gigs (esp. Real Estate)

Helping a friend find photography jobs in Austin. His experience is mostly real estate photography.

He's not the best at networking and I don't know much about the business, so neither of us are probably good for word of mouth.

Figure craigslist could work for finding work. Any other websites?

I'm thinking of setting him up a website on my VPS, but I'm not the best at front end stuff, so I might do more harm than good.

Delicate coworker dispute

I managed to enrage a more senior member of my team. Trying to figure out how to navigate the situation.

When we moved over from .NET MVC to Vue with .NET Core APIs, he started placing Business Logic, Data Access Layer, and Classes into separate folders to organize the code, even though we usually have separate Projects/Libraries for those in each of our apps. It makes sense, since we almost never reuse code between apps. As for as I know, this change was not part of official policy or okayed by any managers. If it works, they usually don't care.

I followed his lead until a few months ago. Some reporting tools were incompatible with the existing API project I wrote, so I started a new Reporting project. Consequently, I needed DAL code I could use with both the API project and the Reporting project. I converted the folder structure to libraries so I could bounce code back and forth between the two apps conveniently. This is also more consistent with our usual architecture. Two managers and another engineer signed off on it.

Now the more senior engineer needs to write a new API. He's basing it of my Reporting Web API, but the automation tools he wrote only work with Folder Structure, not Project Structure apps, so he's having to do a lot manually he wasn't expecting to.

So far as I know, his change to a Folder Structure instead of a Project Structure was not generally communicated to the team or approved by management. I agree for our APIs his is the right approach. I probably should have reconverted back to a folder structure when I was done, but everything worked, it matched our usual paradigms, and two manager signed off on it. Specs changed a half a dozen times and I was sick of it.

He made some comments on a hot mic that revealed his feelings on the matter.

I'm not sure what to do to mitigate the issue. Never had a coworker so angry at me before. I respect the guy, and I probably should have went with the better paradigm. On the other hand, I think he's over reacting.

Neither of us is the best communicator, so perhaps its best just to leave it alone and not address the issue.

Hi, folks. I started collecting vinyl last year. I regularly hit up GoodWills and Half-Priced Books in North Austin. They are good for surprise gems, but if I'm looking for a deal on a specific record, I'm not sure where to go.

Right now I'm looking for The Spin Doctors' Pocket Full of Kryptonite. I see it on Amazon for just over $40.

I find Waterloo Record's search is unclear. Looks like they won't have this album on vinyl until June and it cost about the same as the one on Amazon.

I'm not just looking to save money. I'd also prefer to help a local business if possible. Then, something used is something shared.

Know any other good places for used records for this or other records?
