Edge's mental breakdown made me really freaking angry

I'm currently playing Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope, my first time playing the series. Edge is probably my second favourite character (my favourite being Reimi), but his actions post-Alternate Earth very nearly made me hate him. Okay, so he watched an entire planet be destroyed in front of him, so it's natural he'd be shaken up. But then he rants about how he's somehow entirely responsible for it and that he's beyond redemption as a result, as well as screaming over and over again that "everyone" is dead. Who is "everyone"? The faceless nobodies he knew nothing about? The insane scientists who tried to kill him and his friends and experimented on Meracle and countless other aliens with fantasies of universal domination? The only person worth mourning on that planet was Klaus, because he actually helped them. And no matter how Edge looks at it, he can't deny that something good came out of them going there, since they were able to rescue Meracle, but he was basically acting like her life meant nothing, which looks especially bad since he was the one who convinced her to come with them in the first place. I mean, yeah, he was an idiot for trusting Milla, but she was an even bigger idiot for meddling with technology beyond her comprehension. With people like her running the show, it was honestly only a matter of time before the planet was destroyed. So yeah, I'm with Faize when he says there's nothing Edge could have done, and it's honestly pretty arrogant of Edge for him to think there was. Thank God he came to his senses by the end of the Roark arc, because if Reimi and the others all ended up getting killed while he was too busy feeling sorry for himself, then that really would have been his fault.

Honestly, it's melodramatic nonsense like this that makes me realise that the identifiable victim bias exists for a reason. It's just much easier to care about the lives of someone you actually know than those of complete strangers. Overall, I am enjoying the game, but that particular part left an incredibly foul taste in my mouth. And to think it was done by the original Dungeon Master for Critical Role. I'm willing to bet that if Matthew Mercer were to look back at that performance now, he'd be deeply embarrassed.

Who is your LEAST favourite member of the Anglerfish team?

For me, it has to be Yukari, both because someone has to be and because, out of the five, Yukari feels the least fleshed-out. Every other member of the team has some kind of reason for taking up Sensha-do- Miho was initially forced into it but overtime regains her love for the sport, Mako takes it up to avoid repeating the year, Hana wants to prove something to her mother and even Saori has the rather shallow goal of becoming more popular with boys. Yukari, on the other hand, joins because... she idolizes Miho and likes tanks. That's it. Also, one part that left a bitter taste in my mouth is when Yukari attempted to stand up against Erika in regards to Miho choosing to prioritize saving her teammates over winning the match, but as soon as Erika retaliated, she clammed up like a coward. Keep in mind that Erika didn't actually make any sort of counter-argument; she just told Yukari to mind her own business, to which Yukari could easily have responded that someone insulting her friend is her business. The fact that Mako, Hana and Saori all stood up to Erika even in the face of that meaningless platitude just makes Yukari's meek "I'm sorry." all the more jarring. Don't get me wrong; she's not a bad character by any means, but if I had to pick a least favourite of the main five, I'd pick her ten times out of ten.

If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that Erza was an actual Amazon [Anime]

We all know that Erza fits the everyday definition of 'amazon'- she's badass, forceful, certainly isn't lacking in courage and pretty much never needs a man to save her. However, she also bears a pretty big resemblance to the Amazons from Greek mythology. Not only is she inhumanly strong, she's about as tall as most men her age and her fighting style is closer to that of a warrior than a wizard. Not to mention she has an epithet that calls her a "Queen" (though she claims in one episode that she doesn't even know who gave her the name "Titania"). Even if she wasn't directly based off Amazons, they were probably a big inspiration.
