Duck confit is the best!

Happy Thanksgiving from Canada.

It was just our house of four for Thanksgiving this year. So, instead of a turkey, we prepared two ducks and confited their legs.

O.M.G.

I was raised on a farm with ducks and my mom always roasted them. I love duck, but now I see that as a crime against creation.

If you want a fancy (albeit pricey), foolproof meal at home, duck confit is the way to go. So incredibly simple. So incredibly delicious. I did make a pile of duck broth that I added to the potatoes and the stuffing, and I used the duck fat on the vegetables.

I do not understand how I went 40 years never tasting anything this good.

If you can braise, you can confit.

What does "New" mean?

What is this little new flag? I haven't been to that side of the river this year (it's a 1km paddle; there are no bridges, so I know I haven't accidentally been over there).

For reference, there is nothing on that side of the river. It is a giant provincial park. Maybe a mountain pikmin? Certainly no stores.

Sunrise

Caught the sunrise with my teenager this morning.

We forgot about the "mountain". Sunrise was to be at 550 this morning, so we were out at 530. It didnt clear the mountain until 626. We could have slept a little longer. Good thing this was only 5 min from home.

Road trip help?

I am in such a good routine right now (but its new and fragile). Now, we are going on a 1 week, 4 province roadtrip.

What are your go to tipss to stay on track? In particular, I am worried about breakfast. Tradaitionally, we always hit the road around 4-5 am (brfore hotel breakfast opens) so we bring our breakfast. Will have access to a plug in cooler in the car and *hopefully* bar fridges in the rooms.

Teens and husband are easy. I make a bunch of muffins and fruit.

What do I pack as low carb options? Something that wont give gas attacks in the car- so no protein drinks.

Thanks.

What do you *do* with tatting?

I found my grandma's old shuttle and figured tatting would be good for summer while it is too hot to knit.

I love the look of tatting, but, what do you do with your pieces? Is it a process art where I just enjoy the movement? (the movement is beatiful on its own). My gran had many doilies and table clothes, pillow case and blanket edges. And , while I cherish those, Im not sure im quite to that level of grandma core yet.

How are we using tatting in our modern age? I want to make patches for my daughters ripped jeans to make them more school appropriate while still being fashionable. But... what else?
