Get-togethers for the 40s age group in Greenwich?

I’m a resident of Port Chester, right at the border/end of Willet Ave. Lived here for 13 years since leaving NYC, have full-time corporate job but operate my own luxury leather jacket design and manufacturing gig (vintage repro/heritage fashion type of thing). I frequent the Greenwich Ave and the track but haven’t really met any people per se, so, just a 13 year visitor and shopper. I don’t have kids so can’t even organically meet other 40 year olds who have kids. I just want to make a push and see if there’s a chance for me to make any friend at all here. I am not in finance and not a lawyer or doctor (although I am in the health-adjacent industry). Thanks.
* I didn’t specify, I’m not a woman. I’m a guy, and not single. :)

The dreaded thought that my former employer may be sabotaging.

I know there probably isn’t anything to do about it, but I am in a very tight-knit industry, there are category of companies that don’t know much about the other categories but within the categories, the higher ups all meet at executive summits and talk to each other. I had a long and successful career at a company, I resigned, on good terms, and I believe they genuinely appreciated my work and gave me a large bonus even though I quit. I also believe they are intelligent enough to not trash talk anybody in the industry. But, I do not feel confident about their ego and personality quirks. There are many ways they could describe someone without intentionally trashing them but let the listener perceive something negative, or, something not fitting, this is especially so with my former employer, the executives are all within the family and are known to be weird. There are people who see through them and don’t take their words at face value but there are those who are naive. A couple of job interviews went silent suddenly after the new employer crossed path with the former (they went to the same convention, or, who knows, may simply have reached out to poke about me). For other former colleagues who also worked there, it’s a consensus the family members cannot be trusted (for one ex-coworker, our mutual former boss is known to talk shit about him long after he left). Of course I have also interviews at companies that I’m pretty sure don’t know these family members and behave more appropriately by not secretly poking behind my back.

Is there one orientation for the Toyota oil filter canister?

4th gen Taco/4Runner, did oil change today at dealer as usual (5th time). I used a marker to paint the white letters on the old filter can before going in. Afterwards, I noticed that the “Toyota” and white triangle graphic of the new can is facing a bit more downwards (suggesting more clockwise rotation). Did they over tighten?? Or was it under-tightened?

Redondo Beach demo, blew my car door!

So, I have listened to many types of music and many mix and masters. I don't listen at high volume, and try to carefully pick equipment as far as budget allows. Never have I played the CD2 of LAND (1975-2002) on the proper equipment and felt the impact until yesterday. I have owned LAND when I was in college, but only listened to it via my Shure monitor-style headphones then I lost the CD. I re-acquired the CD last week, and listened to it in my 2024 Toyota Tacoma with JBL system. Now, my front and rear doors already have sound deadening put in to reduce vibration. Piss Factory was just a normal mix, pretty punchy and loud, but when Redondo Beach (demo) came up, the left hand piano bass line literally rattled the crap out of my front door panel! Of all the cars I've had, music at higher volume, with actual kick drum, e-bass and whatnot, nothing has yet rattled my doors until Redondo Beach (demo). WTF???
I then listened to the CD on my home system with Yamada AS801 amp, and Monitor Bronze speakers (has excellent low end capability), I was able to confirm that there is a lot of ultra low frequency on that track. Thankfully my Monitor speakers are excellent so I was able to enjoy the more-than-live effect of the bass line.
But, when listening via my Macbook and Macbook Air, the hardware blocks the low end, so all you heard is just a regular piano left hand banging on the keys and wouldn't think otherwise. Airpod Pro 3 is able to manifest that thumpy bass, though. So, basically, depends on the equipment you use, this track will sound completely different.

Now, my poor car! I know the JBL subwoofer is bad, so maybe I now have to upgrade my door speakers and the sub to not let my car be destroyed by Redondo Beach (demo).

What is this pattern on the glass?

These zebra patterns appear when I wet wipe any glass, wind shield as well as door glasses. They quickly become invisible after the wetness evaporate. What are they? Can they get removed? It’s like this once new.

Buying aftermarket wheels for 4th gen, any concern about the lug nut type and size?

To clarify, I’m about to buy some Fifteen52 wheels (35mm offset, Alpen HD model, 17-8). Tire Rack provides free lug nuts and a lug adaptor (I think the 52 wheel lug holes are small or cone shaped for a wrench to get in there?) I heard some say the Toyota bolts on the truck hub is short, so ET lugs need to be used to be secure. Fifteen52 support says theirs are not Extra Thread and would be fine. Any experienced owners here with Fifteen52? Any comment would be appreciated.

The sound of the car door slamming, and automotive psychoacoustics.

I was obsessing over how to describe and come to term with the "two parts" clunk sound of when my 4th gen Tacoma door shuts, compared to how a late model Subaru Outback's door sounds, vs. wife's 2018 Audi A4 etc etc, then came across this article that is precisely what I have been thinking! I got this from an older Reddit post, but still very relevant, https://melmagazine.com/en-us/story/car-door-sound-engineering

Basically, when I test drove a 2026 Outback, I noticed just how "solid" it sounds, most importantly, it is a "single thud", but my Tacoma has an after noise, almost as if there's a rattling object inside my door storage when there isn't. My door already has deadening put in, but this sound characteristic is independent of deadening. The Audi also has a one thud noise but sounds less dampened, it's a bit sharper, in fact it kind of similar to a 4runner or land cruiser door (which are both shorter than the Tacoma front door). The difference between the Subaru sound and Tacoma's makes me attribute it to the amount of leather/soft material used vs. plastics, but this may not be the reason. How do you like the door closure sound of your Tacoma?

Increasingly chaotic music sync.

Not sure what’s going on but my iPhone is the 16 pro, Apple iMac is from 2012 (still has the white iTunes icon). I don’t subscribe to Apple Music so all of my old and new devices are not sharing contents. I plugged my phone to the Mac, used Manage Storage to delete all songs, then re-drag and dropped albums into the phone. After I unplug the phone, whatever was on it was still there, also, albums I didn’t drag also appeared, lastly, some of the dragged albums are missing songs. When right click/holding on the songs to make the menu pop down, some songs shows “remove from download” plus “delete from library”, while other songs only show “delete from library”. Please help me understand this. Thanks!

Anything to be aware of using hub ring for wheels?

2024 Tacoma, really falling in love with the Fifteen52 wheels (HD series), super retro looking but more sophisticated than Nomad. The center bore on those wheels is 106.2mm, truck hub is 95.1. Hub rings are easy to buy, plastic or alloy. But just wanted to haar other people’s experience or cautionary tale when installing wheels that don’t have matching bore size and have to use hub rings. Thanks!!

Self-aware and non self-aware typology?

My question is about a friend, whom many of us think is on the spectrum and currently out of work (and we think he will be stuck out of work for good). Don’t know if this is the right sub but I can’t identify a “autism at work”, “autism in corporate” type
Of sub.
So this friend is already in his late 40s, has a masters degree in food science. Done some odd jobs/hobbies but often struggle to stay employed. I’ll try my best to describe him cause there’s no evidence or discussion that prove he was diagnosed, importantly, i am very curious if he is aware-no, no one dared to raise this topic to his face for fear of a long winded rebuttal/denial/debate, and not to hurt his feelings.

In a nutshell, he is a self-proclaimed rock star in every way, he wouldn’t say he’s the smartest guy in the room but essentially people he works with all tend to fall short. He thinks he alone saves the industry and can’t swallow his pride and play the corporate game to stay at a job let alone get promoted. He seems to spend conscious effort to not offend others and show proactive care and loving, case in point, when walking on the street, a woman or elderly appears, he’d go out of his way to give way to that perceived “in need” person (picture him GOING OUT OF HIS WAY to lend unsolicited help). It’s comical to watch (“come on man, you don’t really have to do that” we’d say). He hates certain people but I guess to bury that guilt associated with it, he again goes out of his to compliment them.

He cannot get out of head. Once an idea is born, there is no listening of any other angles and he goes all red and in fumes if the other person doesn’t agree.
(When frustrated long enough, he resort to alcohol and quickly gets wasted). At the end of his last job (a damn good company), he had enough and said that he will present himself as a senior consultant when interviewing for the next job, and tell the next company they don’t know what they are doing so they need him to take the company to the next level. I said gently: that’s all good, but how about adopting the “foot in the door” strategy first? They won’t like to hear that they don’t know what they are doing, so why don’t you first act agreeable, get hired, then transform them? Nope, none of my word was heard.

Bottomline, it’s very hard to say if he’s an egomaniac, autistic, or something else. I can easily see that no company will let him do people-interacting jobs, the company I was talking about put him in QA/RnD, it was a major CPG beverage and snack brand we all know. Socially speaking, he can’t course-correct and can’t back himself out of a corner.

I have friend who say he maybe the autistic type that’s not self-aware. Yea descriptively I think “not self aware” is pretty obvious.

Thanks, any advice on how to communicate with him so that advices could be heard would be great.

Tranny replacement cost

Tempted to buy a 2002 LS430, about 165000 miles but seller says transmission needs rebuild. Let’s say I I go to Lexus and buy a new OEM unit and have them put it in, how much would it be?

Do you need a subwoofer to fully enjoy the superb boom of Born In the USA opening in his concerts over the recent two decades? I was at the live gig recently and wonder how I can replicate the effect at home.

I just bought a received a stand alone CD, regular transparent jewel case that says 2018 remaster on the front facing spine. The CD face is grey-silver. This distinctly feels like the remix version in the Loving The Alien box, but I can’t tell if it’s remixed, I can tell clearly it’s remastered though. Is this the correct CD?

Less and less 1958 trim?

While the new LC has become a kind of more accessible, and no dealer mark up, it seems to me dealers around my area (NY, lower CT) no longer stock 1958, only the LC trim on the lot. Are you seeing this trend?
