Potential idea for Veteran Rework

Veteran by itself seems like a pretty generic and basic perk, better reload technique and speed, full ammo reserve. However, it lacks the whole concept of "morale"

Which is good on its own if you're handing a weapon that's either ammo inefficient or has horrid reload speeds but still it feels a bit niche and outclassed compared to something like Marksman, Black hand or even Grayhound (unironically Grayhound Heavion is straight cancer more than Appa Heavion if you're good at rushing)

And also where it does make sense that a "seasoned" soldier would have better reload techniques, it just doesn't make that much sense with mag fed guns like the Adjudicator and Hope, like why are we racking the bolt and ON PURPOSE wasting a bullet? It doesn't take a PhD to figure out that you're wasting a round and time

Now saving that same bullet with something like a bolt action rifle or revolver, or even the equine double barrel, it makes sense that it would be more difficult especially in the heat of the battle so due to lack of experience/time it's better to waste the ammo for the sake of survival

So my idea is basically that in addition to enhancing reload speed and technique, Veteran could also enhance the class and its abilities. And this isn't a new idea, it is already in the game in the form of Veteran Lancer. So it'd make sense that other classes may potentially receive the same treatment.

So here are some of my ideas, however they're not set in stone and entirely open to alterations or suggestions

Soldat: Perhaps enhancing weapon handling/ accuracy slightly, but not to the level of Black hand/Marksman. I would appreciate ideas I can't really think much about this

Rook: Faster/stronger building, faster/more efficient mining etc etc

Mortician: More potent or stronger/Longer lasting stimulants, faster surgery, enhanced syringettes. Either or, one or multiple whatever works

(Edit) Officer: (Completely forgot a out this guy, screw this guy) Potentially longer order durations, lesser whistle cool down, longer order effect radius, more potent spotting capabilities, either or, one or many

Jaeger: Enhanced echolocation range/frequency, thinner tripwires like Geists(though not to the same level), etc etc

Lancer: Already present in game

Vanguard: Faster shield folding and unfolding, faster repairs, more resistance to automatic fire and/or melee attacks, better handling with shield, ability to slowly reload sidearms behind shield(only reload, not fire, though I'm a bit skeptical about this one) etc etc

These are all just ideas and fully open to suggestions and alterations, I just believe that it would make Veteran a lot more compelling and interesting perk to play along with making it overall unique.

Let me know what you guys think and if it'd be a good change or if it'll suck ass

About the nerfs

Personally, as someone who has been playing since July 2024 so I've seen the game in all its phases and moments

Some of the nerfs feel outright evil and in a game where every weapon is supposed to be viable, they just feel outright to be the worse pick

Heavion has apparently lost its whole niche of being a higher damage "HEAVY" Hellion with more damage but worse ammo economy and handling, now it is a bastard child of the Hellion and Adjudicator and it's horrible at being either of them. It's just straight up a worse pick than Hellion entirely, just not worth bringing. And it's already been nerfed a lot in damage and RPM (though that was needed as it used to have 250 first and 225 second falloff with 100-ish rpm once too)

In my opinion a better way to nerf Heavion would've been to drop the first falloff back to 200 so it only one shots if you hit all pellets, hence still keeping its identify instead of being dead weight

And it isn't that hard to counter shotguns either, in my whole timespan I've mostly died to shotguns when I carelessly peeked corners or when I got flanked. That's the thing you're not supposed to blindly run into corners and think you can gun everyone down, and you're not supposed to be a one man army you're supposed to keep moving and/or have someone or yourself constantly checking your flank. Besides often times the corner is made of wood so people do realize they can shoot through it right? That has worked for me as a counter. And the time I played Vanguard (Kindguard rise up), if it's a right side corner they're also not as hard to deal with

Stunion is straight up gutted, like WHAT do you mean it now does LESS damage than the honor? It's just a Pederson device which doesn't jam but worse because Pederson has constant 50 damage all ranges if I am correct. At this point just use Union ALT or Honor stocked, it's straight up a worse pick now.

Personally I would've reduced the movement accuracy/speed, handling and/or ammo count giving it the same as the base Union, dropping the damage to 50, 45, 40 is just evil.

Ultimately, you straight up can NOT balance EVERY weapon to be fair, ultimately something WILL be unfair and more powerful than the others

What matters is that there's a counter to it, just like how Geist is a counter to shocktroopers, Jesse artillery is a counter to campers and shotguns were a counter to rushers and lancers. Shotguns were an integral part of the game and now it feels like that integral part is straight up gone

And no I am not a chudgun main, I gilded the hellion and equine and didn't touch them again. yes I complain about it when I die to it cause it's funny, unless it's those 2k hour Brigs/Lord's running Jaeger apparition with sawed off equine genuinely ruining the fun for people who are actually employed and have a life outside of the game

But honestly, Chudment, King slayer, even the crossbow in the right hands is just as annoying

And people do need to realize that you NEED to alter your play style, you NEED to adapt and adjust as required and you NEED to change your play style to counter others, everything is supposed to be viable yes but it is NOT supposed to be viable against everything

And the shocktrooper helmet nerf also makes them a lot weaker. It was there just so a volk in the backline wouldn't knock their shit off, and 100 is still a very damn long range, that's like already beyond the third falloff of most guns and I don't think anyone complained about that.

Some criticisms were valid, like yes Heavion was too powerful, and so was Equine but Equine's niche has been killed for the most part by the apparition rework since the annoying aspect was mostly pairing it with apparition so you never saw it coming

But there wasn't any need to straight up gut them, now there's no reason to pick them over anything else because some people don't want to adapt and adjust their playstyle and whine about everything

Bulwark Mounted Machinegun

Basically a support weapon based off of the Lewis Machinegun (this is the base, would be better to include the Anti Aircraft variant with 97 rounds) However it will be firing a heavier calibre like the HMG

150-200 Damage Heavy pen

30-50 Durable

(Numbers not concrete)

Due to the bulky nature of it, it can't be aimed but only hip fired when standing and hinders movement when fired while walking with bad spread and recoil.

However it can be mounted to any surface, or it can also be used while prone, where the recoil will be MASSIVELY reduced to being minimal (except there would still be camera shake and kick, statement subjected to change)

And it would also come with a backpack slot item which would be the deployable shield which would be half in size of the Grenadier emplacement, Heavy armor and chest height for mounting the gun, think of it as a mobile HMG emplacement support weapon.

This imo would give a lot more utility to shield grenades and teammates using directional shield and for the heavy tankdivers to be able to hold a position better.

Regarding the Bastion Post

I was the original poster who claimed that Bastion was worse Post-update than Pre-Update(Warriors, Hive guards etc being AP2 to AP4 according to the Wiki)

I deleted the post cause I was misinformed and it was misinformation and I do not wish for anyone else to be misinformed.

I do apologize for that, I was wrong with that, it was my fault as I was firstly misinformed, secondly I had a bad acid seed consistently for six or seven rounds after not using the Bastion for a long time on a normal strain of bugs, and it did not help that I was told the same by multiple people that it felt objectively worse.

I was wrong in that, after looking at the Patch notes posted by that one Reddit dude who datamined all changes, the units in question WERE AP3 and went to AP4, however for some reason way after that the Wiki claimed them to go from AP2 to AP4 which is wrong, and a change that stayed even after the undocumented patch notes being released

So yes, I do sincerely apologize and for anyone else who hasn't yet, do give the notes a read and do battletest things on multiple seeds too rather than just fronts before coming to a conclusion

Edit: I can't post it in r/Helldivers(where I also made the mistake of making that post) because for some reason it keeps getting banned by mods the moment it's posted, possibly botted so there's that
