Sex and self esteem

The guy I was dating for some months suffer for 20 years of bipolar and never had medications.
At one point he told me that he could not have sex with me, because it was too close, to deep but also that he could not give me what I needed.

He started to have multiple friends with benefits.
A lot of sex here and there and also a very strong maniac phase.
Recently He said to me that he has the idea he did not deserve me, because I do not know him, that he even doesn’t know himself and when I have answered with: “yes I do know you”., He holded my face and started to cry and cry , imploring me to stop.

I really do not understand, I am not afraid of him and his disorder but is he?
Did someone else struggled with a bipolar lover that refused the love ?

Are people with bipolar have self esteem problems when it comes to choose relationships or partner?

Hi everyone, I see a good friend of mine with diagnosed bipolar disorder for 20 years that has never been medicated , always choosing or getting close to people that are not choosing him.
I am sure he would like a healthy monogamous relationship but the moment there are real opportunities for that, he starts to disclose more about “his problems” first hoping you would stick around but in any case, if it gets too close he runs away saying “ I choose for the easy way, well, the safe way” and normally the safe way it were he doesn’t have to make a choice .
Has anyone else experienced similar situation?

Bipolar maniac episode/relationship

A person very close to me is going through a maniac phase, he is not medicated and never has been.
In this phase he is close to many people, girls and some are girls that he is dating , but not me even if we were very close before and shared deep connection.
We dated a little bit, but he took distance from me because was too deep the connection and he could not have sex with me .
I offered my friendship but he is cutting me out and not considering .
Is it normal in these times completely ignoring people you love ?

RETURN TO REALITY AFTER HYPOMANIA

Hi everyone,

I am writing because a dear friend of mine, who is 40 years old, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in the past but has never taken medication. He drinks a lot of alcohol, smokes a pack of cigarettes a day, and occasionally uses drugs.

In the past, he went through very severe manic episodes during which he spent a lot of money, moved to another country impulsively, crashed cars, and attempted suicide.

For the last 10 years he has been relatively stable. I say “relatively” because he still experiences deep depression during the winter, becomes aggressive with friends, and gets into intense fights, although without major destructive actions.

In the last few months, however, he has started behaving quite strangely again: sleeping very little, barely eating, having racing thoughts, buying unnecessary things, keeping secrets, fighting with friends, and talking about selling everything and moving away. At the same time, he has also started very confusing romantic relationships and speaks about being in love while also kissing random people and wanting open dynamics involving also kids.

I am quite worried and I do not know whether this could escalate. What confuses me the most is that I cannot understand whether what he says and thinks truly reflects what he wants. He sounds extremely convincing, and if I question him he becomes aggressive.

What happens when this “high” phase ends? Will it end, or could it continue getting worse?

Maybe someone here can help me understand the situation better so I can support him in the best possible way.

Thank you very much.
