How do I choose a career if I’m not passionate about anything?
I’m getting to the point where most people have a career in mind. I’ve looked at jobs that pay tons of money, I’ve looked at jobs that pay less but are more enjoyable, I’ve looked at government jobs, military, etc. I don’t have passions for any of them. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a soulless dude who hates everything. I have things I enjoy, but I think making them into a career would be more painful than choosing a career I have no interest in. I was looking at dentistry, but the majority of people saying you need more than the motivation of money to become a dentist, and to generally not go into healthcare unless you’re passionate about it, so I think I’m shifting away from it. All I really want right now is to make money. The way I see it, the more money you make, the earlier you can retire, the earlier you retire the more time you have to pick up those things you enjoy again. Dentistry for example: you make insane money, but it’s stressful work with one of the highest suicide rates out of all professions. Is the money enough to keep you going through the years of schooling, debt, and stress? Most likely not. Has anyone else felt this way? Sort of adrift with no real plan besides a vague idea? On that note, people who have taken gap year(s) to travel, would you recommend it?
