Imperial Commando: The Dying Day ELC Printable Version (Lulu)

INTERIOR PDF GOOGLE DRIVE LINK

COVER PDF GOOGLE DRIVE LINK

Hi everyone! A few days ago, I posted that I made a cocver for Imperial Commando #2: The Dying Day, which is in fact simply a renamed edition of HandofThrawn45's Twilight of the Jedi I: The Dying Day that he posted to fanfiction.net in 2018. I'm nearing completion of the RC series as a whole, and it's always bummed me out that there was no finale...and when I found this--a genuinely good book that can serve as a finale to the series--I was disappointed I couldn't easily find a printable version.

Well...I'm happy to announce that I formatted the entire book and made a complete cover in the style of the Essential Legends Collection (it's 494 pages in total!), and now if you download these two links, you can print the book out for yourself on Lulu!

To get your book exactly like the ELC books, make sure to choose these steps:

Make sure to download both PDFs and download them.

On Lulu, after starting your project, choose Print Book as your product type

  1. Upload the interior PDF - it should come up as a Print Book (the pdf will format it to be a Digest-sized Paperback - 5.5 in x 8.5 in)
  2. Set Interior Color to Standard Black & White
  3. Set Paper Type to 60# Cream Uncoated
  4. Set Binding to Paperback Perfect Bound
  5. Set Cover Finish to Matte

Don't forget to upload the cover PDF, and you'll be good to go!

The book itself ultimately costs $14.34 in this form, but with shipping and taxes I'd expect it to cost at least $21 - easily affordable, and thankfully not more than most Star Wars books would be.

Enjoy reading! And do remember this is not my work - I'm so glad I got to format and edit the entire book, but this is a masterpiece by HandofThrawn45, aka Gregory O. Scott. If you know how to reach him, please send him my eternal thanks!!!

P.S. - Let me know if this is something y'all enjoy; if you'd like, I can consider formatting more of Scott's and the ReExpanded Project's books in this way! I already have plans to do the sequel to this book, Coruscant Nights V: The Long Night**, and am looking into doing his** Despot Trilogy as well as his Knight Errant sequel Knight Defiant**.**

Imperial Commando #2: The Dying Day ELC Cover Mockup

I'm getting close to starting Gregory O. Scott's Twilight of the Jedi: The Dying Day, so I decided to make a mockup of the book as if it were Imperial Commando #2 collected in the Essential Legends Collection! The artwork of Kal Skirata is not mine - it's by Shane Molina of Hawaiian Mako Designs, an incredibly talented artist I found via Facebook.

I plan to make a back cover and side stitching so that I can do a custom print; I'll post an update when I'm done with that!

What characters from books (and/or comics) should we get a follow-up on?

The Star Wars expanded universe has many stories in both the book and comic medium, and with nearly every author who makes their mark, they bring a slew of new characters with them. Sometimes, they just serve as set dressing - but on the rare occasion, we get a character whose inital appearance on the page turns into the first of many as they become staples of the Star Wars universe:

  • Thrawn (Heir to the Empire, 1991)
  • Quinlan Vos & Aayla Secura (Dark Horse's Republic #17, 2000)
  • Black Krrsantan (Marvel's Darth Vader #1, 2015)
  • Doctor Aphra (Marvel's Darth Vader #3, 2015)
  • Rae Sloane (A New Dawn, 2014)
  • Cobb Vanth (Aftermath, 2015)
  • Vi Moradi (Phasma, 2017)

For example - I just finished reading Adam Christopher's Master of Evil; it's primarily a story about Halland Goth and, through his and other characters' perspectives, Darth Vader. But there are characters who, should the right story arise, would be amazing to see again - such as TC-99 and Enoosha, and most prominently extremely intriguing, albeit less fully explored ones such as ISB agent Korali Desler, who I personally need to see in another piece of Star Wars media. Everli Chalis from Battlefront: Twilight Company has always wildly intrigued me, and I'd love to find out what Rael Aveross was up to during the Clone Wars - Dooku's first apprentice not being in more Star Wars media baffles me to the point I just have to assume he died well before it (but let's hope not!!!). And it goes without saying - if Claudia Gray can ever make a sequel to Lost Stars so we can see what happened to Cienna Ree & Thane Kyrell, most of the fandom will be seated.

Throughout my many years of reading, the list keeps stacking up - we get introduced to new characters in books or comics, and then can only hope they show up again in some other story. Because of the sprawling nature of comics, it definitely happens there more than on the book side of things, which is why I want to ask all of you dedicated readers...

What original characters from Star Wars books do you hope to see again someday?

The Ultimate TCW Reading/Watching Timeline

I'm reposting this from the Star Wars Books thread because I think y'all would appreciate this :)

So for the past few months, I've been reading and watching Clone Wars media - tying together Legends and Canon content to create a more cohesive reading experience (literally, I have been working through this since January). For myself, I've tried to craft an experience that feels cohesive but also like a consistent timeline - I think I've finally cracked it. With the Legends content in particular (from the 2003-05 MMP), I have a few notes of how I headcanon things in - for most, it's not a huge problem and it's somewhat easy to just blur your eyes.

But make no mistake - this is an insanely stuffed timeline that is supposed to fit into three years; theoretically it could work, but in reality probably not - time is weird in the Star Wars universe, however, so this is my attempt to make some sense of it all.

22 BBY

  • The Approaching Storm
  • Episode II: Attack of the Clones (takes place close to the mid-year point of 22 BBY, roughly late May or June)
  • The Clone Wars: Wild Space Ch. 1-3
  • Death in the Catacombs (short story)
  • Queen's Hope Ch. 1-7
  • Jedi of the Republic: Mace Windu #1-5
  • Queen's Hope Ch. 8-27
  • Jar Jar: The Unseen
  • Clone Wars Chapter 1-21 (don't really work with canon at points, but I would place the events of the show here)
  • Brotherhood
  • Queen's Hope Chapter 28
  • Hyperspace Stories #11, #1, #5
  • The Cestus Deception Ch. 1-32
    • [have to headcanon that Anakin and Obi-Wan are no longer master/apprentice in Chapter 1]
  • The Hive
  • The Cestus Deception Ch. 33-82
  • Republic Commando #1: Hard Contact
  • Hyperspace Stories: Grievous

  • TCW S1 E16: The Hidden Enemy
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars
  • Tales of the Jedi S1 E5: Practice Makes Perfect
  • The Clone Wars: Wild Space Ch. 4-23
    • [has some weird and honestly pretty stupid Bail Organa stuff - like him not knowing about the Sith and hating Obi-Wan - that doesn't even really work in the old EU; but if you do want to include it, it helps to make Bail's appearance helping the Jedi in Supply Lines more understandable]
  • TCW S1 E6: Downfall of a Droid
  • TCW S1 E7: Duel of the Droids
  • Omega Squad: Targets (short story)
  • TCW S3 E1: Clone Cadets

  • TCW Secret Missions #3: Duel at Shattered Rock
  • TCW Secret Missions #4: Guardians of the Chiss Key
  • TCW S1 E5: Rookies
  • Shatterpoint
    • [I just headcanon that Depa Billaba had a wild, unseen process to redemption that happens around 20 BBY - that she woke up, ended up back on Haruun Kal, fought Grievous, and redeemed herself...a story we will never see, but puts her into another coma and she comes out with a fractured memory and regret, but not as dark as she was before...kinda overkill to make it work with the canon, but the story is too good not to include]

    • [takes place over about a month and a half time at least, is followed by a 2 month gap]
  • Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel Ch. 3-5
    • [definitely some serious issues with how Mandalore is portrayed; I headcanon it by making it so that what is called Mandalore is actually Concordia, and that the Mandalorian clans are a third branch - more adherant to the Mandalorian clans we see in The Mandalorian - that stay out of New Mandalorian/Death Watch politics on Mandalore and consider themselves the true paragons of Mandalorian culture. Also some contradictions with the Clone Army and its size and resources - if you don't think too hard it's not hard to headcanon those discrepancies away and enjoy the book as it is]
  • Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir #1-4
  • Kanan: First Blood #7-8
  • Age of Republic: Padme Amidala
  • Dark Disciple Ch. 26-30
    • [this is when Vos is rescued; there's about 2 weeks afterwards where he's taking smaller assignments]
  • Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel Ch. 6-11
  • Dark Disciple Ch. 31-42
    • [This book as a whole is tricky - I estimated it can take place at a minimum of around the span of at least 4 months, which is almost all of the time allotted in 19 BBY - there's only really 2.5 months left for the other stuff, which is Season 6 and Season 7, when this isn't taking place. And that's even on a pretty compressed scale, as if you give everything the space to breathe it should take place around 9 months...this is conducive to a super headache and is perhaps the best argument that the Clone Wars are overstuffed and exceed three years, but structuring it this way is perhaps the only way I can make it work].
  • TCW S7 E5: Gone With a Trace
  • TCW S7 E6: Deal No Deal
  • TCW S7 E7: Dangerous Debt
  • TCW S7 E8: Together Again
  • Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel Ch. 12 (I)
  • Kanan: First Blood #9
  • TCW S7 E1: The Bad Batch
  • TCW S7 E2: A Distant Echo
  • TCW S7 E3: On the Wings of Keeradeeks
  • TCW S7 E4: Unfinished Business
  • Kanan: First Blood #10-11
  • Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel Ch. 12 (II)
  • Labyrinth of Evil
    • [the ending of this novel is irreconcilable with canon, but if you want you can include the majority of it up to Dooku escaping from Tythe - the final chapter or two can just be ignored and you can assume they are called to Yerbana shortly after, still unaware of the battle on Coruscant]
  • Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel Ch. 13-16 (Battle of Coruscant)
    • [rest of novel - Ch. 17-26 - takes place concurrently with and after Revenge of the Sith]
  • TCW S7 E9: Old Friends Not Forgotten
  • Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
  • TCW S7 E10: The Phantom Apprentice
  • TCW S7 E11: Shattered
  • TCW S7 E12: Victory and Death

Let me know if y'all have any thoughts! I tried to keep things as consistent with the updated canon timelines as possible, but some things were moved around (in my opinion, for the better), and I pushed the start time of 19 BBY closer to where it begins in Legends, after Ahsoka leaves. 20 BBY is especially stuffed, but that's the whole Clone Wars for you...

And that's even on a pretty compressed scale, as if you give everything the space to breathe it should take place around 9 months...this is conducive to a super headache and is perhaps the best argument that the Clone Wars are overstuffed and exceed three years, but structuring it this way is perhaps the only way I can make it work].

Reconciling Republic Commando (#1-#4) with the TCW Canon

The contrasts between Karen Traviss's Mandalore as portrayed in the Republic Commando series and Mandalore as portrayed in The Clone Wars are severe - so much so that I've seen many people often profess that there is no way either could coexist. And that is, the more I read, a fair truth to assert - they are not designed to be compatible.

However, I've wondered about this a lot - the Wookiepedia page for Mandalore (title) deals with this pretty well in my opinion; I think that the series is totally reconcilable with a few minor head-canon shifts - the biggest being that every scene taking place on Mandalore takes place on Concordia, slightly removed from the events of the show (by my calculations, none of the book's events overlap), and that the clans we see in the book consider themselves distant from both the radical Death Watch and Satine's Pacifists.

The most interesting thing to me is that this is a perspective that aligns and perhaps even strengthens what we see later in Rebels and especially in The Mandalorian - if you can get past the issue of Mandalore and the fundamental differences between the culture as being a simple third party not shown in the show, then I think they actually complement each other in a unique way. It's not pretty by any means, but it's better than trying to force RC Mandalore onto the barren planet we see in TCW - that's genuinely stupid.

I'm sure this is going to get a lot of comments saying "just let Legends and Canon be their own thing," and those voices won't be entirely wrong. But asides from the Republic comic series (which is 100% incompatible with the show), I've noticed that a lot of the novels - at least the broad strokes (even for things like Shatterpoint and MedStar) can fit in with the canon if you wanted to enjoy them alongside the show. Because Republic Commando feels like a slightly different corner of the Clone Wars, it works great up until you get to Mandalore...but if you frame it the way I have, it might just become more acceptable.

I'm curious what people think about this! At bare minimum, it's a way to enjoy both Republic Commando and TCW 2008 alongside each other should you choose - as I said, not necessarily how the Maker intended it, but still fun nonetheless.

Thrawn: Alliances Clone Wars Cover

Was bored, and wanted to use the Anakin/Thrawn Clone Wars art from Thrawn: Alliances as well as the logo from the actual book - here's what I put together!

Also thought I'd throw this out there - I'm currently working my way through the Clone Wars, and I placed this as happening shortly after the Fives arc (S6 E1-4); Padme is away in the prologue, and it makes sense to me that one of the battles he fights is Ringo Vinda - then shortly after the Fives debacle he gets even more stressed when he can't find his wife. But I'm curious - has anyone ever tried just reading the parts of one era? I've already read the whole book, so I think I'm going to try just reading the Clone Wars parts now, and if I go back through Rebels in the future I'd re-read just the parts set in the Rebels era.

Dark Disciple Timeline Placement within Season 6

So I'm facing a little bit of a debacle as I go through my Clone Wars rewatch...Dark Disciple really doesn't make sense within the timeline, and it's kinda messing with my head.

As a given, I always extend the Clone Wars to about three year and a half in my headcanon at minimum...it's cramming a lot of stuff in there, but I think that it works out well enough. But looking at Dark Disciple, there is a significant time jump midway through the novel...I've seen estimates that it takes place over the course of as many as 8 months, and while I think we have to lessen that a little bit (time works weird in the Star Wars universe), the amount of time it does take is worth noting.

On that note, would it make sense to place a majority of the Season 6 episodes either concurrent or within the time gap that is roughly between chapters 25 and 26? I consider the Clovis arc to have taken place during Season 5, so this would include The Disappeared, Crystal Crisis on Utapau, The Lost One, and of course, Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir (which is already known to take place in that gap).

This is just so confusing...

So I was planning future Star Wars reads, and wanted to see the bare minimum someone like myself (a canon completionist, albeit one who doesn't time for crappy Legends stories) could read on the path to NJO. Here's the list I came up with - I include almost every comic in the post-ROTJ era, because they're really easy and quick reads.

  • The Truce at Bakura (4 ABY)
  • X-Wing: Rogue Leader / X-Wing: Rogue Squadron comics (4-5 ABY)
  • X-Wing #1: Rogue Squadron (6 ABY)
  • X-Wing #2: Wedge's Gamble (7 ABY)
  • X-Wing #3: The Krytos Trap (7 ABY)
  • X-Wing #4: The Bacta War (7 ABY)
  • X-Wing #5: Wraith Squadron (7 ABY)
  • X-Wing #6: Iron Fist (7 ABY)
  • X-Wing #7: Solo Command (7-8 ABY)
  • The Courtship of Princess Leia (8 ABY)
  • Tatooine Ghost (8 ABY)
  • Heir to the Empire (9 ABY)
  • Dark Force Rising (9 ABY)
  • The Last Command (9 ABY)
  • X-Wing #8: Isard's Revenge (9 ABY)
  • Dark Empire (10 ABY)
  • Dark Empire II (10 ABY)
  • Boba Fett: Death, Lies, & Treachery (10 ABY)
  • Empire's End (11 ABY)
  • Crimson Empire (11 ABY)
  • Crimson Empire II (11 ABY)
  • JAT #1: Jedi Search (11 ABY)
  • JAT #2: Dark Apprentice (11 ABY)
  • JAT #3: Champions of the Force (11 ABY)
  • I, Jedi (11 ABY)
  • Darksaber (12 ABY)
  • Jedi Academy: Leviathan (12 ABY)
  • X-Wing #9: Starfighters of Adumar (13 ABY)
  • Crimson Empire III (13 ABY)
  • CT #1: Ambush at Corellia (18 ABY)
  • CT #2: Assault at Selonia (18 ABY)
  • CT #3: Showdown at Centerpoint (18 ABY)
  • HOT #1: Specter of the Past (19 ABY)
  • HOT #2: Vision of the Future (19 ABY)
  • Union (19 ABY)
  • Junior Jedi Knights #1-#3 (22 ABY)
  • Survivor's Quest (22 ABY) / Outbound Flight (27 BBY)
  • Young Jedi Knights #1-#6 (23 ABY)
  • Rogue Planet (29 BBY)

Is this a sufficient list? Obviously it's a LOT - but my research has showed me that this is the best, most fulfulling path to New Jedi Order. Notable books I left out - the first two of the Callista trilogy, The Crystal Star, The Black Fleet Crisis, and The New Rebellion. Should I add any of those, or more important - can / should I cut any books on the list above?

Thanks - and may the fourth be with you all! 😄

I thought I'd write this as a love letter to Star Wars, and how vast this universe is - and also, of course, a way to blow off a little bit of steam about how much damn CONTENT there is!

I'm only 18 years old, so by the time I could read (an early date - probably around 2011 or 12), the EU was already in its dying days. But I've loved to read ever since I first could, and Star Wars found me not too long after - going through libraries and bookstores, I would always be drawn to the title with "Star Wars" stamped on top; oftentimes, I would plow through EU Legends junior novels like Galaxy of Fear, and occasionally picked up an adult novel or too that was way too complex for me to understand.

I grew up with Star Wars - The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and The Force Awakens literally defined my childhood. Throughout these youthful years, I continued to dabble with the books - on one occasion, I bought and read four using birthday money - the Rise of the Empire collection, Bloodline, Lords of the Sith, and Thrawn.

Over the years, I would become obsessed with the timeline, and make grand plans to read it - even starting The High Republic when it began in 2021, but never getting past the first wave out of fear that not having read previous content would mean I'm missing out...

...and then, in the summer of 2022, as I neared my freshman year of high school, I began --starting with John Jackson Miller's A New Dawn, I vowed to get through every Star Wars book and comics. I was only reading canon then, strictly sticking to Disney content, as it was the only stuff that "mattered" - even then, I was a completionist, and naive estimates put me at finishing within two years or so. I would, naturally, rewatch every show and film as I went. But little did I know how much time the Star Wars EU takes, for it's just too incredible to peel ones eyes away from...

2022 was the beginning, the summer and fall of Rebels and The Force Awakens:

  • I read: A New Dawn, Lords of the Sith, Tarkin, Ezra's Gamble, Smuggler's Run, Heir to the Jedi, The Weapon of a Jedi, Moving Target, Lost Stars, Aftermath, the Servants of the Empire quadrology, Tales from a Galaxy Far Far Away, Battlefront: Twilight Company, Before the Awakening, and Bloodline.

2023 was the year of The Clone Wars (#1 - only canon), Rogue One, and Marvel 2015-19:

  • I read Aftermath: Life Debt & Empire's End, The Force Awakens novelization, Dark Disciple, Ahsoka, the Adventures in Wild Space series, Catalyst, Rebel Rising, Guardians of the Whills, Thrawn, the Rogue One novelization, FACPOV #1, Battlefront II: Inferno Squad, the entire Marvel Star Wars / Darth Vader / Doctor Aphra run from 2015 through 2019, Leia: Princess of Alderaan, Phasma, the Join the Resistance series, and The Legends of Luke Skywalker.

2024 was the first time I ever tried Legends, and the last time I strictly read only canon - it was year of The Last Jedi, Solo, Galaxy's Edge, and The Rise of Skywalker:

  • I read Kenobi, Canto Bight, TLJ: Cobalt Squadron, Last Shot, Most Wanted, the Choose Your Destiny quadrology, Brian Daley's Han Solo Adventures, the Solo novelization, The Mighty Chewbacca in the Forest of Fear, Thrawn: Alliances, Lando's Luck & Pirate's Price, A Crash of Fate, Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire, Myths & Fables and Dark Legends, Thrawn: Treason, Force Collector, The Last Jedi novelization*, Resistance Reborn*, Spark of the Resistance, Poe Dameron: Free Fall, Shadow the Sith, the Rise of Skywalker novelization, and the Alphabet Squadron trilogy.

2025 was the year of The Old Republic, The Phantom Menace, and Attack of the Clones - I got into Legends and never looked back - going chronologically from the earliest days of the Star Wars universe to as far as I can go forward, filling in any gaps and attempting to reconcile Legends and Canon - a daunting task, although not as impossible as many make it out to be. And this was easily the most fun I've ever had enjoying Star Wars:

  • I read the Dawn of the Jedi, Tales of the Jedi, and Knights of the Old Republic comic series, Reign of the Empire #1: The Mask of Fear, Knight Errant, the Darth Bane trilogy, Padawan, Master & Apprentice, The Living Force, Maul: Lockdown, Cloak of Deception, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, the Phantom Menace novelization, the Queen's trilogy, Darth Plagueis, Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss, the Republic comic series, Dooku: Jedi Lost, The Approaching Storm, and the Attack of the Clones novelization.

And now, 2026 - so far, it's been the year of The Clone Wars, a truly behemoth endeavor in which I've tried to reconcile as much of Legends with canon Clone Wars, watching and reading both side by side:

  • So far, I've watched The Clone Wars S1-4, read Brotherhood, The Cestus Deception, TCW: Wild Space, TCW: Secret Missions quadrology, Shatterpoint, Republic Commando #1-#3, Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, and the MedStar duology.
  • Next up is Revenge of the Sith - as I watch TCW S5-7 and I'm going to reread Dark Disciple, and get to Order 66, Labyrinth of Evil, and Matt Stover's Revenge of the Sith novelization.
  • Then the summer is even more fun as I get into the Dark Times - with a Kenobi and The Mask of Fear reread alongside Master of Evil, Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, The Bad Batch: Sanctuary, the Coruscant Nights quadrology, and Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade.

In total, I've read over 70 adult/YA novels, probably close to 30 junior novels, and countless more comics in the span of what's about to be four years. In those four years, my five-story bookshelf increased from having one Star Wars shelf to a near-overflowing four. And I still find time to read other classics of literature and non-fiction - Star Wars only makes up about 55% of my yearly reading.

I am nowhere near finished with this project - I still have a few more Legends and recent canon standalones to enjoy, Timothy Zahn's entire Legends catalog (and perhaps more of the post-ROTJ novels should I desire), the 2020-25 Marvel Comics lines, and The High Republic. Especially as I go onto college and start the next chapter of my life, the sheer scale of what I have consumed and enjoyed is kind of insane to me, and the fact I still have at least two more years left on it is insane.

I started this project hoping to get caught up so I could enjoy the new canon as it releases. But I've found that getting there is a slow process, and just to enjoy the ride as you go along - and wow, it's been a fun ride.

I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts on what it's like to read through all of Star Wars - how long does it take for you? Is anybody else a completionist like me; do people also like to mix Canon & Legends selectively, or is that a unique feeling. Are there other young Star Wars readers out there like me? And to those on the older side - has it been easier reading books and comics for all these years, catching them as they release, or harder to keep up with / easier to get disillusioned with as you've watched the old EU get replaced by DisCanon?
