Advice for a first-time seller

Hey all, I've been making plushes for a while now and I think I'm at the point where I'm confident enough in my skills to start selling! My biggest hurdle right now- I don't know uh. How. I have a spreadsheet that helps me calculate what I should try to sell my creations at, but I'm not sure what storefront I should actually use, how I should go about marketing myself, etc.

I've been considering using Etsy to sell my plushes, but I've heard awful things about them, and I remember my mom had horrible experience using it during covid (she sold masks off of it and she would rant and rant about how awful it was to sell on lol). The upfront fee to open a shop on there also makes me wary. However, I've never really heard of any other alternatives for selling crafts of this kind before, aside from maybe personal websites, of which I do not have one.

As for marketing, I've started posting my plushes to instagram and some subreddits, but not much else. Not much traction in those regards, so any suggestions on putting my work out there?

Dark sludge on the floor of Southside’s exit

Title. Ive seen this around, occasionally with a wet floor sign overtop of it, since the start of the semester. At first I thought someone spilled food n it rotted, then I thought it was just grime from floor grout or smth like that but it keeps… seeping out? Of this crack in the flooring. Its fuckn nasty does anyone know whats up with it 😭

Volcarona plush completed!

Mentioned making a Volcarona plush in my last post here and just finished so I wanted to show it off!

The body is made out of a faux fur, and the wings are fleece. Everything else is minky! I do wish I added batting to the wings, but I didn’t have any. Oh well. The wing tips have magnets in them, so it can be secured around you/hug you! Thought that would be a cute feature

The plush is about 24in tall, and the wingspan is 44in. That makes the scolipede still bigger technically lol

Took me a little under a week and a half to make, from cutting the pieces to sewing everything together. I moved into my college dorm in that time, and it’s been a good activity to get used to my new living space lol

Wanted to show off my handmade Shiny Scolipede plush I just finished!

Just finished my current largest plush I’ve ever made n wanted to show her off! Scolipede looks cool but most official plushes look kinda goofy so I wanted to try my hand at making my own.

The back has an armature spine running thru it to help her neck not flop over as much, which makes her slightly posable!

Not including antennae for both measurements, she is abt 24in tall and 28in long when the neck is straightened out. So def the biggest plush I’ve made so far! I plan on making a volcarona soon as well so we will see if the scolipede stays that way lol

All in all took me abt 2 weeks to finish, all things considered

Edit: a few ppl in the comments now have been asking abt a pattern, so here’s a link to a drive folder w/ both the pattern I used (and what limited instructions I could write down before I headed to work lol) and the .obj file if yall would like to make one at custom scale!

Where do y’all go to get minky fabrics?

Hey all, first post on this sub so hopefully this is the right place to ask. Over the summer I got super into making plushies as a hobby, and I want to continue doing so lol. I’ve been getting my minkies from… ugh Hobby Lobby. They’re sadly the only place around me that carries fabric, let alone fabric like minky. I’ve taken a glance online before, but most of what I’ve found has been like wholesale bulk-buy stuff where you need to be a business to buy it. Most fabric stores from experience also do not carry plush fabric, but fabric for things like clothes and upholstery.

So… my question is, where do y’all get minky fabrics? I’m going back to collge in the Fairfax/DC area if anyone knows any local stuff, but I’m also more than willing to buy online if I can

How long does it take generally for an Early Arrival Req. to get approved?

Hey all, I applied for an early move-in request for the Fall semester this past Thursday, and it still says "Under Review". I understand these things can take time, but I was curious if anyone knew the general timeframe so I can stop paranoid-ly checking StarRez on the daily LOL. I'd assume anything less than a week sounds about right? I dunno lol

Was told I should post Purrdon here!

Hello all! I’m working on a personal project trying to “modernize” and revamp Pokemon from the Spaceworld demo. This one, called Berunrun originally, is one of my favorites, and I wanted to try and replicate the Sugimori watercolor style. Made this! Made a fake card too lol. The original gen-2 Spaceworld sprite is on the 3rd slide lol. I did not make that. Perhaps will try to make an original sprite for it eventually lol

For the past Week or so every time I have ate at Southside there has just been a shortage of forks. None to be seen, only spoons and knives. Sometimes they’ve put out plastic forks in the past too but no such luck recently. Anyone know why? Its super frustrating

As the title states, every time I open blender, the tab goes gray and gains the “(not responding)” tag at the top of the tab. Goes away after like 5-10 seconds or so, so its not that big of a problem for me, I guess. Its been happening for years now to my recollection, and has just been something I’m used to, but realizing I could potentially “fix” it. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what a fix could be?
