Do any scholars view an invalid prayer as kufr?

Assalamualaikum! Please answer with links. Do any of the scholars (particularly Salih Al Fawzan) view praying an invalid prayer and not making it up as kufr according to the view that skipping a prayer is kufr (since an invalid prayer is as if one has not prayed)? If so, does the is apply to someone who knows the ruling on dog saliva being najis but chooses to follow the Maliki view due to ease or to a woman who does not do wudu after nonlustful vaginal discharge or to a person who chooses the view that blood is not najis for ease? Are they a kafir? I heard that even if someone doesn’t intend kufr, if they heard a ruling it was haram and ignored it, they will still go to hell forever even if they didn’t intend kufr (since those that mocked Islam we’re still declared disbelievers despite claiming not to intend kufr). please provide links and sources, May Allah bless you.

Is Homosexuality (the act) Considered Kufr According to ANY Salafi Scholars (either dead or alive)?

Can someone please tell me the names and arguments of ANY scholars (dead or alive) that considered homosexuality kufr akbar? Please do not just tell me it is haram, I know that and do not engage in it, but I want to know the names and arguments specifically (links are appreciated, as I don’t speak Arabic, so it is hard for me to find these things).

The reason I ask for the name of scholars that consider it kufr is that I specifically heard from a salafi student of knowledge that it‘s an issue of dispute, so I wanted to know the argument from those that argue that it is. I heard it is important and part of fard ‘ayn to know what does and doesn’t invalidate one’s Islam, so I would like to be informed.

I saw (unsure if this is accurate) a translated quote from (I think, but am not sure) Ibn al-Qayyim (who I heard was a student of Ibn Taymiyyah, but the source is only what the internet said, so I may be mistaken) that said “For homosexuality involves innumerable evil and harms, and the one to whom it is done would be better off being killed than having this done to him, because after that he will become so evil and so corrupt that there can be no hope of his being reformed, and all good is lost for him, and he will no longer feel any shame before Allaah or before His creation. The semen of the one who did that to him will act as a poison on his body and soul. The scholars differed as to whether the one to whom it is done will ever enter Paradise*. There are* two opinions which I heard Shaykh al-Islam may Allaah have mercy on him narrate.” al-Jawaab al-Kaafi, p. 115.

The words “will ever enter paradise” indicate to me that one of these opinions is that the act of homosexuality (even if one acknowledges it is haram) is kufr akbar and that the one who dies without repenting from it will enter the hellfire for eternity (and thus will not ever enter paradise), according to one of the opinions. I feel like this is not the same wording as when major sins are described and it is said that the doer will not enter paradise, since “will not” could be referring to the fact that they will not enter immediately (Ie. will enter paradise but will be in hell for their sins first), but disputes over whether they “will EVER enter” makes me think that a scholar views this as kufr akbar (since only nonmuslims will not EVER enter paradise). I really want to know who the scholars that claim it is kufr are and what their argument is (because a report from a student of Ibn Taymiyyah holds a lot of weight in my opinion, but my lack of Arabic may mean I am misinterpreting the text, so I want the names and arguments of the scholars that say it is kufr directly). Sorry for the long message, please respond though with the actual answer (not just reminding me that it is haram). May Allah grant you Jannah.

I also heard there is a Hadith calling sodomy kufr, that the Quran (translated/ paraphrased) calls homosexuality (the act) “the worst sin” (so does that mean it is kufr since shirk is often called the worst sin in Islam?). We know that many scholars deem some acts to be kufr akbar (such as skipping a prayer without a valid excuse) even if they do not view a haram thing as halal. Is homosexuality one of these acts according to any scholar?

Also, in the Hadith of the 7 major sins, does the fact that homosexuality is not listed yet is called the “worst sin” in the Quran translation I read indicate that it is lumped in with shirk/kufr?

TLDR: please tell me the argument and names of the scholars (if any) who deemed the act of homosexuality kufr akbar. If you think there aren’t any, please read the full post (not trying to change minds, just want to be thorough). Please link sources. TYSM!!

*** I am a layman who does not speak Arabic, so do not take this writing as knowledge or something to pass on. I am merely looking for information. Also, I do not necessarily say that homosexuality is kufr akbar, but I would like guidance. May Allah grant you goodness.

Some Questions as a Nonarab (Please Help if Possible; Scared of Nullifying my Islam)

Assalamualaikum! I do not speak Arabic but want to know these answers from REAL scholars. Can someone please answer these questions according to the strictest opinion from the senior scholars (Ibn Baz, Ibn Uthaymeen, Ibn Taymiyyah, Salih al Fawzan, etc.) or Saudi Fatwa Council. I have tried searching the website, but it is hard to do a search even with AI translations.

  1. Do ANY of the Salafi scholars view homosexuality/sodomy as kufr akbar (I am not gay but heard it was an issue of dispute yet I never heard anyone specific say it was before)?
  2. Does publicly bragging about a sin and not repenting from that sin = tahlil and kufr (I saw a translation of Ibn Uthaymeen that seemed to indicate something like this, but I always thought this was just a continuous sin and someone with week iman)?
  3. Does repeatedly sinning without any repentance in between and without much remorse equal kufr akbar if one never claims it is halal? Is this considered tahlil through actions?
  4. Does not wearing the hijab and not really feeling that bad about it (but knowing it is haram not to) equal kufr akbar through imitating the disbelievers?
  5. Is wearing something that is culturally associated with the nonmuslims but not religiously equal kufr akbar (such as a French baret, a hairstyle/makeup style associated with a particular singer/celebrity, a Japanese or Chinese-style dress, etc.)?
  6. Are birthday new years, christmas, and birthday celebrations (done to please nonmuslim relatives) kufr akbar due to the Hadith of (paraphrasing) whoever imitates a people is like them and the Hadith about (paraphrasing) being raised up with a people on the day of judgement?
  7. According to the view that skipping a single obligatory prayer out of laziness is kufr akbar, is that person immediately divorced, and must they do ghusl and take the shahada before their next obligatory prayer?
  8. Is loving, hugging, and kissing my nonmuslim relatives haram? Is it kufr akbar if I don't consider it haram (I thought I heard someone say that Salih al Fawzan says it is not permissible to kiss a nonmuslim relative on the head as this is showing affection, but I might be completely wrong)?
  9. According to the view that not skipping a prayer without a valid excuse is kufr, does praying in an invalid way (such as the person who recites incorrectly after being negligent in perfecting arabic) equal kufr?

I know I ask a lot of questions, and I apologize, but I really want to learn since I feel I have been negligent in the past and am not good at navigating the official fatwa websites. May Allah grant those who respond truthfully beautiful spouses, pious families, and Jannah!

I NEED URGENT ADVICE (REVERT PLEASE ANSWER)

Assalamualaikum! If I took my Islam from people many salafi call innovators or unqualified (Omar Suleiman, Mufti Menk, and Assim al Hakeem), must I relearn everything. I heard some say I can only take knowledge from the scholars (like Ibn Baz, Ibn Uthaymeen, etc.). If I continue to watch these people, am I a kafir? Have I not learned my Fard ‘Ayn? Have they taught it to all these people wrong? PLEASE ANSWER (with fatwas from the qualified scholars according to the salafi)!!! My heart hearts so much and I’m not sure if I’m overworrying or if that’s because a sinner’s heart is supposed to heart when they hear the truth. PLEASE DO NOT SKIP THIS POST. I heard a translation Ibn Uthhaymeen suggested that the one who brags about zina has tried to make it halal and done istihlal and is a kafir. This Directly contradicts what I’ve heard from my western sources, so MUST I RELEARN MY FARD ’AYN AND WHAT MAKES ME A KAFIR OR NOT??? I just want to be a layman Muslim not an innovator.

Genuine Question about AbdulAziz al Haqqan’s recent insta video (do NOT send hate in comments) Plssss answer as I want a salafi answer specifically

Assalamualaikum! If you haven’t watched this video on his instagram, please don’t answer before watching the full thing. I am not trying to criticize as I think he has a lot of very helpful posts, but I am genuinely trying to learn. I know his response to this video was focused on niqab and photography respectfully, but does this apply to everything? Because, what about those who don’t speak Arabic (are we required to investigate every opinion we follow)? Also, does this mean that those who follow other madhabs are sinning (I’ve heard some of the madhabs say you can follow an easier opinion when there is hardship like OCD; not sure if they truly say that, but it is what I’ve heard from multiple sources)? What about if we come up with opinions that seem harsh to some (like some people genuinely believe that sodomy is major kufr due to the Hadith or that loving a nonmuslim relative is forbidden)? The people with stricter opinions may say that their rulings are backed by the Quran and Sunnah while those with more lenient ones may say the same. How do we know what is right and what we ourselves are innovating? Please include your sources (Quran, Hadith, scholars, or madhab) in answers.

** I am NOT saying that he is necessarily wrong or right in this video nor am I inviting ANY hate toward him, I am just seeking more knowledge. Also, I am a layman, so if someone says something incorrect in the comments, do not hold me responsible or think I endorse it. May Allah guide us and grant us Jannah!

How Often Should I Feel Anxious?

Posting on behalf of a sister who is not super familiar with Reddit and wants anonymity:

”How often should I feel fearful or anxious? I have recently been trying to quit a sin that I have been addicted to (note that the sin is akin to watching movies, music, that depict or talk about major sins; im not trying to expose it but giving context so you know its not like a drug addiction that would give me the same exact chemical brain alterations or something). However, I find that I am now feeling anxious and fearful way more. Is this a good thing (my Iman going up), a result of my sin (my brain being in withdraw), a combination of both, or just the way I need to live my life now?

I know the believer should balance hope and fear and that some have suggested that they should live in more fear than hope whilst healthy, and I heard a translation of Hadith says “By My might, I will never combine in My servant two fears or two securities. If he feared Me in the world, I will make him safe on the Day of Resurrection. If he felt secure from Me in the world, I will make him fearful on the Day of Resurrection.” (Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 640 I think). However, I don’t know if what I‘m feeling is normal.

I have been diagnosed with anxiety many years ago but it was by a kafir doctor who may have over diagnosed since they view sins like movies and music as normal (im not able to afford Muslim doctor right now). Also, I have a history of waswas but cannot tell what I should and shouldn’t be nervous about (because in the past, I have ignored certain things like repeating recitations or learning how to pray and do wudu properly and have turned out to be praying WRONG). I do not think this is a sign of my piety because I struggle to complete my obligations and avoid sins (I don’t do zina, drugs, etc. but regularly fall into sins like free mixing, movies, music, etc.), and I barely even do any of the sunnahs people regularly do and might go days without completing any of these sunnahs (like full morning and evening adkhar, reading Quran in free time, etc.). What is your advice?” Thanks!

** Please note that I am a layman and not comfortable judging what is and isn’t haram without proof, so if someone says something haram, wrong, or doubtful in the comments, do not hold be accountable for it. May Allah grant us all Jannah!

Pausing During Prayer?

Assalamualaikum! Hope everyone is well! I had a question about prayer (I don't speak arabic). I heard that some scholars consider pausing too long between Allahu and Akbar as invalidating the prayer (since the first Allahu Akbar is a pillar, and they say it should be said continuously I think). I also heard that pausing too long between words or verses in Fatiha can invalidate it by ruining the continuity. I'm unsure if this is right, but that's what I was told. Is that true, and if so, how long a pause would invalidate (for both Allahu Akbar and the Fatiha)? Does this rule apply to everything in prayer (the Tashahuud, Subhana rabbiyal 'Adheem, the Salaam, etc.) or just to the Fatiha and Allahu Akbar? And does taking a breath between Allahu and Akbar count as too long a pause?

Please include the name of the scholar, website, or madhab you get your answer from (my country doesn't have an official madhab, I'm just curious). Thanks!

Is Watching Videos or Reading Books with kufr or magic considered kufr akbar?

Assalamualaikum! I don’t know if we‘re allowed to ask questions here, but I reverted a little over 3 years ago and only speak English and cannot currently drive to a masjid. I was wondering if repeatedly reading/watching media with kufr or magic (such as harry potter, thor, etc.) was considered kufr akbar. I know these are haram and evil, but must a person retake shahada after watching them? What is the stance of each of the four madhabs, of the Council of Senior Scholars, official fatwa committees, etc.? Is it a difference of opinion? If you answer, please cite your source, madhab, or scholar.

*Also, I am very ignorant, so if someone links or says something here that goes against Quran and the sunnah or is just wrong or deviant, please do not hold me responsible or think that I am endorsing it.

Thanks! May Allah reward you all for your good deeds!

Any sisters who can check my Arabic?

Assalamualaikum! I am an American revert (became Muslim a little over 3 years ago), but I still struggle with Arabic pronunciation. I don’t have a car, so I cannot drive myself to a masjid right now (they are very far from me). I was wondering if there were any native Arabic-speaking sisters who would be willing to add me on insta or messenger or something so that I could send them video/audio of my Fatiha and Tashahuud pronunciation (both at regular volume and whispering) so that I can be confident that my silent and loud prayers are both valid and so I can insha Allah pray at a better pace and with more khushu.

Some specific things I am concerned about:

- All the heavy letters being pronounced correctly (ح, ص, ط, ض, ظ specifically)

- making sure not to accidentally add an ‘ayn after the heavy Ha

- The letter ط (heavy Ta) in general (I’m scared about saying it too light or making it sound like a daal, especially when whispering)

- adding or changing letters

- changing the meaning of any words

Please let me know if you are willing to help, may Allah reward you and grant you blessings!

** Also, I am a girl.

Help with Fatiha and Tashahuud Pronounciation

Assalamualaikum! I am a revert (20F) and have been for about 3 years, but I still struggle with pronunciation in my prayers. I think I am saying the letters in a way that does not change the meaning, but it is difficult for me to be sure since I am nonarab. I do not have a car, so it would be difficult for me to drive to a masjid and ask an imam. I was wondering if anyone is open to hearing me pronounce Fatiha and tashahuud (both out loud and at a whisper volume, since I am scared whispering is changing my pronunciation of letters like ha and Ha) and pointing out my errors and letting me know if any of them are invalidating my prayer. I am open to doing this through text message/insta (through voice chat) or through something like FaceTime. I would prefer another sister pls. Thanks! May Allah reward you for your kindness!

I can’t Initiate dm’s yet (new account), but feel free to dm me if you are interested!
