Draw my Hank?

My son… so precious. This photo strikes me. I gave birth to him under a full moon. Would someone want to draw a beautiful horse such as Hank? 😁

Anyone else remember this?

Before the whole D’Angelo thing, when Caleb was on his failed livestream kick where he was going live everyday with like 40 total views or something insanely pathetic, Caleb said some weird things during those lives.

Of course, he completely scrubbed the channel including all clips and I had no interest in preserving that, so I’m wondering if anyone else had seen clips and/or remember some of the talking points.

I remember Caleb talking ALOT about how creators should be able to sue anyone who talks bad about them online or accuses them of things. I also remember him talking extensively about how 18/19/20 year old women infantilize themselves nowadays and everyone treats these (18, 19, 20 year old) women as if they’re such young people…

Again, I do not have clips for these. So, if anyone does happen to either have clips or remember these, I’d greatly appreciate it. I’d also love to know your thoughts on Caleb’s failed livestream gig. I believe he was doing this in late December/early January of this year. If I recall correctly, he had been on a livestream all day when D’Angelo made his first stream, and kept his employees in the office to stream ANOTHER FOUR HOURS just to react to D’Angelos claims… wild

Shane Wiigwaas in DBD

I personally think this is great representation (thus far) and by far the best we have gotten in a video game. They picked a nation, got members of that nation to consult with and have an indigenous voice actor (Dallas Goldtooth) voicing him. Not to mention the accuracy on the regalia - I was almost crying. The art too!!

How do other Ojibwes feel about this? Other native ppl in general? I’m so far loving this character design and I am super excited to see what they do with him.

Anyone else have an obsessed teacher…?

I’m urban Niish (Anishinaabe) and went to a predominately white high school with just over 200 kids. One of the teachers was oddly obsessed with my heritage and culture. At first i just thought he was curious as a lot of teachers there were curious and supportive of indigenous cultures, so I would teach him basic words like “mukwa” and such.

It became very clear after a while that he somewhat fetishizes the culture/identity. He is white and of Irish descent, and would all but freak out if I ever joked about that. Throwing his head down and telling me he hates that he grew up white and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. He would often tell me about news articles of indigenous people being arrested or assulted, but wouldn’t let me tell him about things like scalping and forced sterilization, or that it was 2021 that Mohawk hunting was outlawed. It was “too graphic” for him to hear.

When I told him I was to have my naming ceremony over the weekend, he told me my Indian name should be “little drunk” because I drank at a party once. For the next few weeks he would talk about “seeking his indigenous name” and sign off school emails with “[Name] - looking for my indigenous name” until I had to tell him to stop.

He gave me his number before I graduated and commissioned a painting which he offered to pay for using animal pelts. I declined and said I need cash, which he tried to argue until eventually agreeing to pay cash. While I dropped it off, he gave me a bucket of muskrat paws to make him some “indigenous necklaces” with. I declined it again. A while later he asked for another painting with tipi’s, totem poles, sun dancers, dogs and horses. I completely ignored him and haven’t talked to him since. The blatant pan-Indianism was not lost on me.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this sort of thing? I’m sure if I look back, there are many other things I can recount. Him crying about not having a clan when I told him mine, using a stereotypical “Indian chief voice” in front of me… it was very weird.

(For context - my camera flattens the image a bit, the darks are much darker in person)

I feel as though i’ve plateaued in my pencil portraits, and would love to improve them visually. I have a vision of better art but i need some advice on how to get there.

How could i improve? What could i change to make it more visually appealing? What stands out to you most and what do i lean on in my art?
