⚖️ Judge Blocks Trump Mail-Voting Order Nationwide: Ruling keeps USPS changes on hold before November midterms 👇

A federal judge in Massachusetts issued a nationwide preliminary injunction on August 11, 2026, blocking key portions of President Trump's March 2026 executive order that sought to reshape mail voting before the November 3, 2026 midterm elections. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani ruled that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) cannot implement provisions directing it to limit delivery of mail ballots based on a proposed federal voter list while the legal challenge continues.

The ruling expands an earlier injunction that applied only to 23 states and Washington, D.C., extending the protections nationwide. The lawsuit was brought by voting-rights organizations led by the League of Women Voters, with legal support from the American Civil Liberties Union, the Brennan Center for Justice, and the Legal Defense Fund. Talwani said immediate nationwide relief was warranted because election preparations are already underway and last-minute changes could create confusion for voters and election officials.

In her decision, Talwani concluded that the executive branch lacks constitutional authority to regulate federal elections in the manner outlined by the order. She also found that USPS has not been granted authority by Congress to establish or enforce federal mail-voting eligibility requirements. The administration has argued the executive order is intended to strengthen election security and has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to lift earlier lower-court rulings blocking parts of the order.

The nationwide injunction will remain in effect while the case proceeds unless it is modified or overturned by a higher court. For now, election officials can continue administering mail voting under existing federal and state procedures as litigation over the executive order moves through the courts ahead of this fall's elections.

What additional information do you think election officials should provide to voters before the November midterm elections?

Traffic cameras are coming

Given that it's likely in the near future we will see traffic cameras in our city. What do you think are the most important things we consider before they go up??

A couple notes:

- Somerville could have up to 16 of these cameras given the one per 5000 population rule

- the city is allowed to cover its costs in administrating them but does not keep any money beyond the cost

- your first violation is a warning

- you do not get points on your license for a violation

Revere Beach

I biked up to Revere Beach today to see the sand sculptures (they are still looking great) and I was shocked that there is no place to lock up your bike along the beach.

The only place I found to lock up was behind the T stop.

Did I just miss the racks or is this a missed opportunity for Revere?

Wilting plants

I have a few large raised bed gardens and I've experienced a few plants that seem to randomly wilt. It starts in one branch and then eventually takes over the whole plant.

I'm at a loss, my tomatoes look beautiful this year, I fertilize them every other week with tomato fertilizer and they are watered twice a day.

I'm in New England. We have hot humid days and have had some heat wave activity

Have you been Flocked?

Just a quick reminder of where flock cameras are located around Somerville. The bulk is on Tufts campus with a few others by Home Depot.

I would love to see local ordinances about these devices surveilling public spaces.

How to prepare for a heatwave?

The Northeast US is expecting a heatwave this week, what's the best advice to keep your plants happy and healthy?

More water, more frequent watering, music and a beach ball??

New puppy - what is she?

New rescue pup joined my family last week. The only thing I can see is maybe some Shepard not I haven't seen a butt scoot when zooming - this said she's super mellow. Her tail tip is also black.

Newly adopted baby!

This is Penny, a good girl in Massachusetts from Texas. She is a very chill 4 month old. I'm guessing there's some Shepard or Malinois in there but not sure. I think her fur will be a bit wavy as she gets older.
