Question for the audience. A supplement arrangement

So I am working on a TAS supplement. It'll be primarily planet-based, but it will include a bit of a sector as well. I was aiming for a sandbox book. Where you can easily drop your players into the area and have fun, or even run a one-shot using the materials here.

The question is the format most folks prefer. Some friends have read the outline. I have gotten mixed input, and a few of them aren't Traveller players but are TTRPG players.

Here is the outline:

>1. The World of [planet name]- Introduction to the planet.
2. The [System name] Binary Star System - System and regional context.
3. History of [Planet] - Founding and development.
4. Government of [Planet] - Political structure and ruling dynasty.
5. Institutions, Factions, and Power Centers - Major organizations and actors.
6. The Economy of [Planet] - Industry, corporations, and commerce.
7. Defenders of [Planet] - Military and security apparatus.
8. The Great Cities of [Planet] - Primary locations for play and storytelling
9. The Great Space Elevator - A place of intrigue, scum, and villainy
10. Adventures on [Planet] - About 10 adventures involving some of the things covered in chapters 5, 6, and 7
11. Campaign seeds - About 3 open-ended campaign seeds for a GM to take and have fun with.
Appendix
Appx A - NPC cards, index card-sized when printed, with basic UPP and some flavor text (description, motivations, equipment). This would where NPCs mentioned in the chapters.
Appx B - Major equipment that could be found in the system (starships, robots, vehicles)

So the question is: if you had a book like that in your collection and arranged as the outline shows, would it be useful for you as a GM, or should I move a couple of chapters around and get to the action earlier? I have seen it both ways in official and TAS supplements.

So I figured I would ping the internet and get all the answers to be more confused as I work through editing and trying to smooth my drafts to something worthy to be published via TAS.

Go to background careers during character creation

This came up as a post game session conversation amongst my players.

What is your goto career field for character creation?

This came up because a few of my players who were long term Traveller players commented on how they will always try and roll up say a free trader in the Merchant class or a Star Marine. Simply because that is what they always played. Then the question was could we see or do something else just for grins and giggles.

I know for me my top three are:

  1. AGENT - LAW ENFORCEMENT. This seems to give me a good rounded combat capable character who is also good at persuasive comments or being able to spot things better than others.

  2. MERCHANT - MERCHANT MARINE. This seems if I wanted to be the wheeler and dealer for the group. Also at times making those trade rolls off the side can be interesting too.

  3. SCHOLAR - PHYSICIAN. When I have a need to say "It life but not as we know it Jim." Or "He's dead Jim" with my dice rolls.

Is there anyone else that has a goto for career while making a character? Have you tried to do something different just to see if it would be fun and interesting to see what the dice delivers?

Paranoia Perfect Edition and how it plays on Roll20

Okay, at my table, my group has hit burnout with our normal game, and I finally have talked them into trying Paranoia. I have the Perfect Edition and have even bought the Roll20 books. For reasons not important here, we have to play this on Roll20 for the next few months.

A couple of questions in trying to play this on a VTT.

  1. Has anyone played a game or two on Roll20? If so, how does it play?

  2. How has anyone approached character creation? I remember playing XP years ago in high school, and there was a ton of rules about "the player to the left has to take..." sort of thing. That is hard if we are virtual.

  3. I know I can whisper to players in the chat, but how do I handle the whole idea of getting special info for a mission, or even my players using their special organizations or mutant abilities in the game?

If there is anything else I should learn or know prior to getting the game started?

What are or could be the other national special mission forces

Okay writing this after a few beers and a long conversation with a friend who is also a fan of GI Joe. We spent part of today debating and building head Canon for the other names of other special mission forces could or should exist.

We know in universe (Sunbow, Marvel, Hama-Verse, DDP/Image, and IDW) that GI Joe is the USA Special Mission force to defend freedom around the world.

The October Guard («Октябрьская гвардия») is there first for the USSR and later Commonwealth of Independent States (aka Russia.

Meanwhile, for the UK and being generous the Commonwealth of Nations (which is composed of some former Territories and Colonial possessions of England) has Action Man and Action Force.

We also know that figures were released in places like Japan, South Korea, Brazil, China, Mexico. I am uncertain as to how many changed names and backgrounds like Palitoy did initially for the 1982 to 1985 GI Joes.

So let's have some fun and create a background paragraph on what another national special mission force might exist and some of the major players might be named and background. Like Stalker being given the codename to the Snake-Eyes toy in the UK or Quarrel is Scarlett in the UK or Brazil had a character named Falcon different than the USA 1986 Falcon.

Build a project out without dates attached to use as a generic "perfect world" example.

Does anyone know if MS Project can build out a project Gantt chart without dates or just say something like "Project start" and then "start+30 days" for tent pole events and such?

I am asking because I am trying to build some process documents, and one of the things my boss wants is a "typical" project Gantt chart that we can put in the document on how the process would work and at what dates (again start day is X and events are X+/- days from start) that for example, we spin in other departments for certain events, have parts ordered event, and provide funding documents to fiscal event. All very high-level and really generic things.

I am relatively new to using MS Project and not sure of how much I can or can't just build generic stuff for this use. Part of me thinks I can do this by building a template, but I am running into MS Project requiring specific dates for things, and my brain is hurting trying to get it to save without it flipping out over some error codes or reshuffling the logic I am trying to build.

Thanks for any and all help.

Do we need more women in the Classified line.

So this was a discussion that came up from a friend of mine talking of the GI Joe Classified line this past weekend. We had just visited a local toy show and saw a few of the old school GI Jane Nurses and GI Jane Helo pilots for sale.

All of which made me wonder if instead of say getting a Video Game character shouldn't we get a box set combo of Joe Colton and GI Jane, Female Doc variant, or even just a straight GI Jane the Nurse in combat fatigues to go along with the Legacy sub-line?

From V1 Bolt Action anyone brought these to their K47 armies.

I was just talking with friends about Bolt Action snd K47 and one of them brought up the weird war models from V1 of Bolt Action.

Like these: https://us.warlordgames.com/products/out-for-the-count?srsltid=AfmBOorhSTI_WIiHtdu1xSyZLNN1RmfeT7Ava2Jcs-SYTqQ5ot5Pyati

And

https://us.warlordgames.com/products/sturmbannfuhrer-grauler-and-werewolf?_pos=1&_psq=werewo&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Which lead to a question anyone ever brought these minis to their table and home brew rules to use them as heroes or as units on the table.

Spearhead and Modern Spearhead rulesets where to find them

Okay. So this past weekend, I played a game of Spearhead at my LGS, and later Modern Spearhead, at an "old school rules" weekend the store was running. The idea was to bring in rules that were 20+ years old and older and run them on a table for folks to experience. Was impressed with a guy running Spearhead that was some Normandy engagement between US Armor and Mech Inf vs German Panzers and Panzer Grenadiers. Later the same day, the same guy ran a Modern Spearhead rules of North Korea vs. the US Army circa the 1980s.

The rules seem cool. However, my issue has been that, since they are from the early to mid-90s, the publisher is kaput. It appears they are OOP. I have tried googling and only get GW's Warhammer rules or boxset or something. I did find something on BGG, but most of the listings are yrs old for selling. I have tried some 3rd party vendors like Abebooks, Noble Knights, and even eBay. The prices there were a bit spendy.

Is there any modern printings of Spearhead and Modern Spearhead or am I stuck with spending over US$100 before S&H to get a copy from a vendor like Noble Knight or AbeBooks?

Target fail

I have been hunting for the Special Forces Joe in stores last few months. The closest store I have in my area, which is near the Seattle-Everett Metro area in the US, they still toys from live action train your dragon movie, the 2025 Superman, and Jurassic World.

Heck they even have some MonsterVerse stuff.

I wonder if Hasbro is even shipping Joes west of the Mississippi anymore. Most of what I am finding, if lucky, is 2 series ago.

What amazed me the most is there wasn't any He-Man stuff, but there is a movie less than 11 days.

My local Ross which is in the same shopping center looks like a dang hurricane and F5 Tornado went through the toy section. Toys scatters all over the shelves and floor the small peg board was pretty empty and most again were on the floor. They had nothing.

I hate paying scalpers like a few comic and collector shops in town, but this appears to be the only way short of depending on Amazon lottery to not be ripped off.
