Identity shatter

I am experiencing an identity shatter following a medical diagnosis. I have developed a chronic visual impairment at age 35 following a pregnancy. I am struggling because I already had two children and simply wanted another baby but was operating on gut instinct. Had I really thought about it, I might have decided otherwise. Now I am contending with an open ended hellscape of suffering that is costing me and my entire family the life we wanted to live. I think the grief alone might kill me. It's been two years and I've tried extensive therapy, medication, even a very high risk surgery. I was previously in perfect health and had perfect vision. I have had my capabilities stripped and I do not know how to make peace with any of this. I am hopeless and do not know how to exist with this suffering when I'm feeling the shadow version of my former life turn to dust. Every moment I think "It could have been so beautiful if I werent suffering In this way." I try not to think that way, but the suffering is so intense and overwhelming that it's inescapable. Has anyone overcome this kind of absolute wreckage? My life was stolen from me in the most brutal way

Hopeless

I have had floaters for several years now and they have made me as sick as a person can get. I had zero problems functioning before this. I'm young and my life has been derailed. I even tried surgery but my other eye is really bad and I can't bear the thought of opening this Pandora's box of problems in BOTH of my eyes. I'm devastated and feel like this is truly killing me. The passage of time has only made it worse. I'm so sorry for everyone going through this. It's one of life's cruelest afflictions - to be otherwise so healthy and normal but suffering so intensely in a prjvate hell.

X shaped rays over light sources after vitrectomy

I have X shaped rays over light sources in my eye following vitrectomy. No cataract yet but this shit is driving me crazy. Any headlight explodes with a big streaking X. What is this? Does anyone else have it after surgery?

Astigmatism

Will need cataract surgery early (40s). I do not have enough astigmatism to warrant a toric lens right now (it's about .5-.75 cyl). I've read that against the rule astigmatism develops at a rate of about .25 per decade. Which means by 60s I will have needed a toric lens, with plenty of life left to go. Will this mean I just need glasses then? Am I thinking too far down the road?

Searching for a doctor

Can someone just give me the name of a reputable retina surgeon in the US who performs PVD induced vitrectomy on younger patients? I don't know why this is so exhausting and hard.

Best lens for natural feeling vision

Okay with glasses for some things but don't want to feel functionally blind without them. Don't want vision to feel artificial. Want very low change of PD or ND. What would my best options be today?

Have eye floaters ever killed anyone

TW

the permanence and grief of this situation is making me acutely suicidal. even vitrectomy does not seem like a solution because cataracts are not trivial and it's just one visual challenge after another. all downhill from here. i am despondent at what I've lost. I cannot live with disturbed vision.

Cataract following vitrectomy for floaters

I am specifically interested in the insight of people under 60 (no offense to those older). If you had a vitrectomy for floaters, how long did it take for your cataract to become symptomatic? How old were you at the time of vitrectomy? How much did your prescription shift? And did your lens replacement go smoothly? I've heard wildly different estimates on cataract formation and would like to hear from people here who have had surgery.

Cataract surgery after vitrectomy

If you had a cataract develop following vitrectomy, how long did it take? How much did your prescription shift? How old were you at the time of vitrectomy and what was the reason for your surgery? Thank you.

How many diopters did your cataract worsen your vision?

I recently had surgery that will likely result in an early cataract. I was told I'll experience a myopic shift over time. I currently do not wear glasses at all. How myopic will I become as a result of my cataract and over what period of time (roughly)?

Floaters versus cataracts

For people who have numerous central viral opacities (I'm not talking little ones you only see outside, I'm talking very big shapeshiftjng threads, clouds, bubbles, black knots), are you more bothered by your cataract symptoms of floaters? Because the tradeoff to get rid of floaters is...a cataract and subsequent lens replacement.

I would love to ask you some questions about providers I'm considering, thank you so very much.

Negative dysphotopsia / reverse optic capture

Any anterior segment surgeons here? If you have an extreme concern about negative dysphotopsia, what are the best ways to prevent it? Could a reverse optic capture be performed at the time of surgery?

PCO debris following yag

Does it actually fully go away? As in get absorbed or broken down? Or does it float around forever like regular vitreous floaters? For people who've had vitrectomy to treat eye floaters that feels like a full circle nightmare. Thank you for shared experience and insight.
