I finally decided to give a pair of speakers newer than 1995 a shot and ordered the Klipsch RP-600M II certified open box from an eBay seller with good marks, reviews that gave me confidence in the order. When they arrived one of the tweeters was not centered. I set up the return and then looked through the rear port to discover 3 of the tweeter screws are missing. It was hanging by one screw.
Return is initiated but lucky me, imagine if the person who’d swapped that tweeter had replaced all the screws, saddling me with their choices even further.
So take that shot, but be diligent in your inspection. Would I have looked inside if the speaker had been in position? Yes, but I’m just cautious by nature. Check everything!
Good luck, ya’ll.
I stream this album a lot. I was all over the place at the record store today. Came home with this one and -
Kenny G S/T
Mort Garson Patchcord Productions (I already have Zodiac, but not Plantasia)
Guru Jazzmatazz Vol 1
Rufus’ Rags to Rufus
CAN’s Tago Mago
The Garson album is the only one I hadn’t listened to a bunch.
Jazzmatazz and Kenny G played while I cooked.
Rufus goes on next and then CAN.
Had to restring this carrot when we bought it today and it was staring me down the whole time, not even judging, just staring.
Great album, love the cover art so much. My favorites bounce around, even within a band, but I hear this a few times a week, but the least on vinyl. Great album to chill with after watching Obsession.
Now I’ve put on Bunker Funk
A couple months ago I ordered my partner’s teen a copy of 39 Smooth after leaving HPB and learning he’d had a hard time finding it in person. Today we were there again and he found 39 Smooth and we had a laugh. Now I have a copy, too. I’m a fan of Jarre, I have a couple of his records, and Fat Boy Slim is an old favorite.
All of these will go in my Sony 200 disc changer, but I’m playing them on this Yamaha D-C6480 that I found for 3 dollars the other day. It’s currently on my desk which is a nice convenience, connected via optical to my 2.1 stereo. It certainly can’t replace the Sony or my CAL CL5 on my stereo bureau, but it’s right here!
I found another Santa Esmeralda album for a dollar. While the other includes a full side suite I’ve loved for decades this album is fun. While the sleeve is a shambles, the disc is in a round bottom mid quality sleeve and very clean. I’m about halfway through the second side and then I’ll jump over to Weather Report “Black Market” which I was super happy to find for a dollar.
I can’t remember when I first heard this song (and it was probably Tom Jones), but I really fell into it with the Kill Bill soundtrack. If I’ve seen a cheap copy of this before it wasn’t in good enough condition to bring home.
The sleeve isn’t great, the disc looks immaculate, two streaks I’m sure will wash off but no blemishes. Overall sounds great but there’s some vocal drop out here and there. Nothing spectacularly bad, but noticeable, but something that might have flattened out in mastering for CD?
That was a tangential condition analysis, I’m thrilled to have found this for a dollar, I love when music I love is a dollar.
Best 16 minute side A out there in my opinion.
I listened to the new Osees album *Off Course* a few times today, finally got the chance to sit down and stream it at home, and decided to follow up with what I feel is the best paring in my collection of their albums. Love the new album, love Weirdo Hairdo. Side B is mesmerizing, Tear Ducks deserves special mention, wonderful ending to the album and always puts my mood right.
I saw the posts this morning during our commute while my partner was in the hair wizard shop (she does weirdo hairdos) and turned on the album for us. I frugally decided to order whatever is left in a month or so, she messaged me a couple hours after I dropped her off.
It’s been a rough week for us both and I appreciated this thoughtful gift as I never run for the first run, even when I want to.
I’m really enjoying the album. I appreciate the direction they went with it. I don’t usually listen to new releases four times in one day, but here we are.
Now I’m gonna go grab some flowers and hopefully a Dee-Lite CD for her.
I’ve loved Art of Noise since I was 16. Recently in a new school, new town, making friends after months of self imposed silence (via earbuds and a lot of AA batteries). This guy J who was in the friend group I’d fallen into because I offered the right person a ride one day was having a rough time. We’d never really talked. I’d been hanging out with them about a year. We’d talked shit to each other, but hadn’t really become acquainted. So this guy calls me out of the blue on the landline at my parents’ house, “man I’m having a hard time I’m not feeling safe, can you come over?” I drive to the other end of the lake and pick him up. Just tell me where to go, just tell me what you need.
We drove out of town and into the city. We landed at some girls’ apartment. We talked him through the shit he needed to get through and he was feeling safe and opening up.
In the end we realized we’d met at a skatepark a few years prior. Both of us living hours by bus from that city, we’d exchanged numbers but we’d both move soon after and numbers changed more frequently back then. So we met at a skatepark, spent a day skating around the city and became friends saying goodbye when the last buses were running. Soon after I’d find out we were moving, my stepbrother who was skating with us that day ran away, I moved two hours north and ended up in this guy’s friend group. We’ve been close ever since that night he needed someone to talk to. Actually one of the few people I keep in touch with. He’s doing really well for himself.
Anyways he introduced me to Art of Noise that night. Over the years he’s been a great source of music, but this one is largely out of his wheelhouse in terms of genre focus. Whereas I have no focus and Art of Noise had a big influence on me and my appreciation for them has lead me to a lot of great music.
I introduced my partner to them a couple years ago and she loves them, so I was happy to find these for about $5 each today. We also have Who’s Afraid and the Legs 12” records.
Promo disc is a bonus, I like promo copies. I like breaking the rules.
