Looking for advice for poor customer service

Hey guys, just looking for some advice.

Yesterday I ordered some doughnuts from 7-Eleven. I specifically asked the delivery person to not use the heater because I wanted the doughnuts to be a nice cool temperature when they arrived. I used my laser thermometer when he arrived, and the donuts measured 10 degrees – if they had come directly from the fridge and have been transported in his car on a 3 degree day without heating, they should have been 6 or 7 degrees, 8 degrees max.

I obviously gave him a one-star review, but is there anything else I can do to censure him, possibly going up the chain to Uber management to get his delivery license revoked? Let me know the best way to do this. Thanks

Australian aged care firm accused in class action of charging residents for high teas and classes they couldn’t use

Am on my first rewatch of BCS, early into s2, and this story pops up in Australia.

What does BCS tell us about how this Australian class action in a nursing home is going to end?

investment bonds - worth considering now?

I started putting money into investment bonds about 5 years or so ago with the intent of making a house deposit fund for kids in ~20 years. Looking back was not the best decision because

* gains in the bonds are taxed at 30 per cent flat compared to discounted capital gains if you bought shares.

*the investment Bond pays tax on gains as they accrue, whereas with cgt you only pay tax at the end - you miss out on compounding over time.

The particular one we use is teninvest.

With my understanding of the proposed new rules now, the minimum tax rate to apply to capital gains will be 30 per cent. For the bond to be worth it to me, I would have to be sure that (a) the investments outstripped inflation and (b) I would need to be on the highest marginal rate when the capital gain was realised.

Are investment bonds a more attractive option now or are they still kind of a dud?

Seeking help on sliding door repair in Melbourne

Good afternoon everybody. I am currently trying to fix the sliding door on my Honda Stepwgn. this is a JDM import but it is similar in many ways to the Honda Odyssey.

The issue I have is that the door is very tough to open. When sliding it manually it is very hard to open and close. When I am using the automatic function sometimes the automatic door will register an issue and not close. Some of the rollers in the door are not rolling and the cable that pulls the door back and forth is very tough. I have tried about as much I can do myself.

Wondering if anyone has any leads on mechanics in Melbourne that have been good at fixing these on other cars – this could be Honda Odyssey, Kia carnival or similar.

Thanks

* Mr Tucker in Melrose St ($1 babycino, bonus $5 noisette croissant)

* Market lane ($1.50 babycino)

* Tone coffee Queensberry/Abbotsford (babycino only $1.50, also beautiful locally roasted coffee).

List your favourites below.

Diagnosing issue with house movement

We had our house restumped and replastered a couple of years ago and it looked as good as new then. All timber stumps were replaced with concrete, some new stumps added.

Over the past 6 months it has developed small cracks throughout the house and some doors now have issues closing.

The restumper has inspected and they have advised they it is due to water coming into the foundations of the house. For context , the house is built on a slope and the backyard is at a higher level relative to the house. There is a drain in the backyard but the restumper and some landscapers that have looked at it have advised the drain is not wide enough to take all the stormwater that could accumulate there, and that water could be entering from the backyard brickwork.

So the restumper has advised getting the backyard landscaped and adding some additional stumps throughout the property.

Of course the restumping itself could also be an issue, and we haven't sought an independent view on this yet. One thing we found out too late was that the restumper did not do soil testing, although they did tell us they installed the stumps to solid ground.

Who else could we possibly consult to get a better view on this - a leak detection plumber to examine the backyard drain, a builder to give thoughts on the stumps and a structural engineer?

My wife and I have recently had some disagreement about what to do around birthday parties and presents. We both agree that our kids don't need the presents. At their birthday time, we get them presents and there are plenty of relatives and close friends around that will give them gifts.

We differ on what to do around birthday parties that we invite school/preschool classmates to.

My view is that I would rather clearly state that no presents are needed. Reason being, the party is already a special day and we don't need them growing up thinking they are entitled to gifts from people, esp with a tenuous connection like classmates. Would build more resilience over time.

My partner's view is that it could foster a sense of resentment if they see their classmates getting presents and they don't receive any. And I have to say I do resent buying presents for kids parties when I have done this for my children!

My hypothesis is that in terms of child development it doesn't really matter and so it comes down to preference. I'm open to the idea that consistently seeing others get gifts at parties when you don't at yours could impact relationships and self esteem. But think that we could work on this in other ways.

Are there any SBP perspectives on this?
