THE MUSCLE SPASMS (2 months post op)

Hey friends. I’m 2 months out from T3-L3 plus a temporary tether to the pelvis which is set to be removed next month and wondering if anyone else experienced this.

I had pretty much gotten over the intense full torso muscle spasms after like week 3 or 4… but now here I am at 2 months post op and HOLY GOD they are back. 😭

I know recovery is nonlinear but I am so over these spasms! It’s been such a 180 that I started to wonder if I bent a rod (I know it’s REALLY not likely, but you know how thoughts can be).

Also, anyone else with scoliosis correction notice their shoulders become more even at this time frame? My insides have stopped having that pulling sensation (like ribs pulling back up off the chest wall feeling), and now I notice my shoulders are even more level that they were post surgery. Which is neat and also kind of wild. They still aren’t perfectly even but I can tell the difference.

Best wishes to everyone and have a great day!

Riding in cars and comfort

Hi friends. I’m 8 weeks out from a T3-L3 fusion with a temporary tether into the pelvis.

Riding in cars is SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I don’t mean the pain from the surgery itself, I mean the seat-backs of cars are curved in like a hammock and my back is not. The worst part is how the head rest pushes on the back of my skull no matter how far I move it down. I’m relatively tall also.

Anyone have advice on how to make it more comfortable?

Blessings to all the fellow warriors out there full of titanium spines. May you have an awesome day. ☀️

Where to shop?

EDITED TO ADD; it seems i am FN body type Flamboyant Natural. I don’t wear much of anything woven outside of pants.

Hello! I’m a 50 yo f starting my capsule wardrobe. Culling what doesn’t get worn, doesn’t look flattering, and keeping the pieces I love the most. Turns out I have plenty of pants and skirts but I need tops that go with them that look flattering not frumpy.

I am absolutely not going to wear cropped anything, and cropped shirts are everywhere.

I’m 5’7”, about 155 pounds. Hourglass figure. Generally wear a size large. I appear “tall and skinny”.

I also would like to attempt to make natural fibers the majority of the composition of each piece, and require knit fabric due to sensory issues. Wool is a no go however.

WHERE do I shop? I have to add I get stressed out by thrift stores, and honestly do most shopping online unless there is a brick and mortar location nearby.

ETA: I live in the Midwest in the United States, and my wardrobe is sort of casual chic? Maxi skirts, TNF Aphrodite pants in about every color, Lululemon dance studio capris.

Putting on shoes

Hi friends- 6 weeks post op T3 to L3 fusion. I can put on my preferred tennis shoes using elastic laces, a grabber and a long shoe horn. The problem I have is the tongue of the shoe slides down when I put them on. The grabber doesn’t have enough grip to pull the tongue enough to keep this from happening. My only solution has been to seek out another human to pull the tongue out for me.

Does anyone have a solution besides buying a different style of shoe?

I appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thank you!

Caring for our Feet, legs.

Just got my first fusion T3-L3 with a temporary tether to the pelvis for stability.

How are we cleaning our Legs and feet? Do you all go to get pedicures to get your toenails trimmed or??

Anyone have stretch lace recommendations for standard shoes that tie shut? I have a lot of conditions and my current shoes are the most supportive and comfortable for me but they lace.

Thank you

Cervical collar

Hey all. I just had my spinal fusion surgery a month ago and what a trip.

Anyway, first thing I thought of with this C Collar is I am keeping this annoying thing forever for the car rides that I take a nap during to keep my head from flopping all over the place. 😂 (I have to wear it for 6 weeks and I am tired of it)

MCAS / skin allergies

Fellow MCAS and skin allergen sufferers, how are you managing your skin and still getting clean clothes? What is your go to routine? I’ve been doing the lipase detergent in small amounts and citric acid AND a double rinse /deep fill (standard fill machine) and still having skin reactions, so I can’t keep doing this.

ETA — I used to use liquid All Free and Clear. Had no skin problems, but my fabrics were stinky.

I thank you in advance for all suggestions!

Tipping housekeeping for an extended hotel stay

Staying for several weeks for a medical stay at a Hampton Inn and Suites in a metro area.

My thoughts are we should be tipping x amount each time we get a room clean and sheets changed. How much? $5 per?

TIA

Prospective T3-L5, surgery scheduled in a couple months. I was told to get pajama tops with button fronts. I have sensory issues and I hate buttons. I’m looking at wrap front tops but I have a question- How long post surgery is it difficult to raise arms to put on a t-shirt? Am I looking at a few weeks or months or?

Appreciate your input.
