Private company does RRSP matching but only 4k annually. Economy has them penny pinching and the future of the company uncertain. In theory it has a much higher salary ceiling (200k+) but morale/outlook is low amongst coworkers as many are leaving. Obvious benefit here is I can live anywhere and have more say in my retirement investments.
The government role is federal and has a defined benefits pension plan. It would only be available to me at 60 without penalty, and I’d need stay-put for the rest of my career. It’s 5 days a week in office. Commute is around 40 minutes each way.
I’m 28yo with 600k saved but haven’t bought a home yet (100% will in 5-10 years). I think the biggest asterisks is it’s likely I’ll leave private at ~40yo regardless. Climbing corporate is not for me, and while it’s hard to predict 12 years out, I don’t think I’ll find it worthwhile for my entire career
28M. Live with family rent free in a expensive city. 600k invested in ETFs. 120k income @ fully remote job.
I’ve always had depression but it’s mostly been manageable until now. I think it’s a perfect storm.
This is the most stressful job i’ve ever had. My brain is always online since my office is my house. I don’t have energy to socialize after work because of how busy my job is. When I do all my friends are busy since they’re partnered up and started families.
If I woke up to a layoff email tomorrow honestly I’d be happy. Pay for a couple months to job hunt. If I got fired I’d be relieved for a bit probably until the no income reality settles in.
I’m thinking of applying to my old job for 90k and a pension. It’s fully in office so I have to commute and pay for transportation but the WLB was decent and at least I’d have coworkers to chat and grab lunch with daily. I’m sorry I’m rambling but I’m not sure what to change.
I went from top 0.03% to top 3%. Ontario.
Got one coming up 👀
