What minor/side character would you like to see a story about?

The title is pretty straightforward :) If there were to be a short story, comic, or novel about a minor or side character in the main storyline, who would you want it to be?

I’ve been on a ren’dorei kick lately so I personally would love to see a story about Riftblade Maella. She’s such a cool and interesting character, and I’d love a deeper dive into her backstory or maybe even a side story adjacent to the main in-game narrative. From what we know she started out as just one of many spellbreakers working for the magisters, and was one of (if not The first) people caught and convicted of dabbling in the Void. How did she get into Umbric’s group? What drew her to Void research? She’s now taken on a leadership position to where it seems like she’s Umbric’s second in command, and I’d love to see how she gets there, and how she’s grappled with her own self-hatred over her own unwilling ren’dorei transformation, the hatred she’s no doubt experienced from the rest of Silvermoon in Midnight, and also what she feels about others, like Astre, who chose to be transformed? Is she resentful of them? Does she not mind?

You know what, I might actually just write a Maella story myself.

Can I salvage my dishwasher or is it time for a new one?

Hi all! So we’ve had our dishwasher for I would say ten or so years (genuinely don’t remember when we got it but it’s more than five and less than fifteen). It still runs great, doesn’t break down or leak, but the problem is… it’s frankly really gross. I have ran a high-temp wash cycle with two dishwasher cleaning packets, and the very next time I run a normal cycle, I open the freshly-run dishwasher and it smells.

Is there anything I can do to salvage the situation? I just went in with a toothbrush and vinegar and scrubbed the dang thing to the best of my ability, but I know it’s not going to last. Can I hire a plumber to do like a deep clean of the whole thing? Or is it time to get a new dishwasher?

Thoughts on Ray Mendoza and Warfare (2025)?

With the ongoing episodes on the Navy Seals, I’m interested to read people’s thoughts on Ray Mendoza, and in particular his film (Warfare). I’m kind of fascinated by him and why he chose to make this movie. I do believe his claim that he wanted to show the coworker who got hurt and doesn’t remember anything that happened, what happened, but only to an extent. I’m not sure how to interpret the need he felt to spend $20 million to accomplish that.

I personally think that the movie is another in a long series of “People Jerk Themselves Off to the Idealized Noble Suffering Soldier” genre but like I said I’m interested to see what other people have to say

Do we think Thalyssra will find out what Lor’themar did to those Amani civilians?

I’m a big fan of ”The Bitter Truth”, I think it does a great job of knocking the elves off their high horse (or I guess high hawkstrider) and gives more depth to major characters. I do wonder though, since representatives from all the elven and troll peoples of Azeroth (that we know of) were there, there’s gotta be someone who overheard Lor’themar and Torbundo talking right? Especially after Lor’themar punched Torbundo in the face. It seems like there would be a good opportunity for someone with something to gain by shaking up the elven unity to shake up the epitome of elven unity: Lor’themar and Thalyssra’s marriage.

I mean obviously Thalyssra wasn’t under the impression that Lor’themar was a kindly park ranger, but I wonder if she knows her warrior-poet husband is also a child murderer and a war criminal. Considering she led the Dusk Lily Rebellion to free her people from a murderous tyrant I doubt she’d be cool with Lor’themar burning a village of largely civilians to the ground and never giving it a second thought until now.

Maybe patch 12.2 is going to be us watching Mom and Dad get divorced

I’m genuinely confused about why people are so upset about Khadgar’s wheelchair

From what we know of the arcane and spellcasting I genuinely think it makes sense that turning yourself into pure arcane energy for any period of time would have severe consequences on your body. Also, he was blasted by Xal’atath right before she blew up Dalaran, wouldn’t that be similar to taking, like, multiple gunshot wounds irl? That could’ve also damaged his spine to the point of paraplegia.

I know the obvious answer is “snowflakes are triggered by anything they think might be woke” but from a lore standpoint we really haven’t gotten much in the way of information about the consequences of magics, other than the Void and when Medivh was in a coma for a decade after the powers of Sargeras awoke within him. At least not that I’ve been able to find.

Our characters cast tremendous amounts of magic all the time, and the most that happens is we run low on mana and have to wait a few seconds to recharge. Which I don’t want to change, don’t get me wrong! It’s fun to run around with Starfall and do unspeakable amounts of damage to large numbers of trash mobs during raid. But in terms of consequences it would be interesting if there were more canonically. It would make feats of strength like what Anduin did during the BfA announcement cinematic seem even greater, because for us to summon that magic it’s just a regular Tuesday night

I’m either overthinking or the writers stole my story (patch 12.1 spoilers mentioned)

EDIT: the comments saying “don’t worry your idea is not original” actually make me feel better thank you

So. I wrote a cringe fanfiction eight years ago, and what happens to my character is, beat for beat, what happens to Arator in Midnight.

My story centered around my prot paladin squire, Horace Lin, who is kicked out of the Silver Hand for insubordination at the start of Legion. He goes on a journey with his friend through the Broken Isles and after they do the Trial of Valor raid and kill Helya Horace has a crisis of faith where he feels that the Light may not be the force for good that he thought it was because it caused him to strike down someone he didn’t think deserved it (Helya). But he learns that the Light exists in everything and everyone, and that we are all part of this same cosmic cycle, and finds peace in that.

Then, when they go to Argus, he is swarmed by withered on Mac’Acree and without meaning to lashes out with the Void in a moment of panic. He’s helped by Alleria who gets him back under control and make sense of what just happened.

Also on Mac’Aree he finds the jed’hin and learns about their dedication to balance. He decides “yeah sure I’ll incorporate that into my belief system” and learns during the Argus endgame raid that a balance can be achieved between Light and Void to where equal amounts of both will cancel each other out.

In part 2, he has PTSD from everything he saw during the Legion invasion, and this causes him to lash out with the Void again. With the help of friends and family he’s able to start healing, and while I stopped writing at that point, I have a physical notebook of ideas detailing how eventually he becomes a “Balance” paladin, learning to use both Light and Void the same way Shadow priests do. Guess what Arator’s story is in Patch 12.1!

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Kinda sounds exactly like Arator’s story in Midnight? Am I overthinking it slash losing my marbles (also very possible)?

I know I may be making a mountain out a mole hill, but I’m looking at Midnight’s story, and I’m looking at my cringe fanfiction I wrote eight years ago, and I can’t help but think I am either somehow psychically linked to the WoW writing team, or they copied my idea. Which makes me feel pretty low. Yeah I wasn’t the best writer back then but I put so much love into what I wrote.

Something of a theme is starting to emerge with our Grand Magister

*Spoilers for the 12.0.7 Omnium questline!*

After the march on quel’danas, when Rommath grants the velves the umbral atrium as an embassy, he mentions how he tried many times to convince himself to burn Umbric’s research materials and other personal affects that had come to be stored in the warehouse, and how every time he couldn’t bring himself to even go over there and do it.

Now, during the omnium questline with Rommath and Umbric, we see Rommath talk about the same thing with regards to his predecessor and mentor, Belo’vir Salonar (credit and thanks to portergauge on bsky for the screencaps I got these quotes from!!)

Quote: “After Belo’vir’s death, I contemplated opening this vault. I talked myself out of it.“

Other quote: “Belo’vir appears to have left instructions on how to access his vault… instructions that have been awaiting me for a long time.”

We’re starting to see that Rommath has had trouble handling loss and letting go. He couldn’t bring himself to do what was legally probably a necessity and destroy Umbric’s things after he’d been banished, and he couldn’t bring himself to go into Belo’vir’a vault to access the things that Rommath now needed to fulfill his duties as grand magister. It makes me wonder, then, what else he hasn’t been able to let go of. Does he have anything he’s kept (out of not being able to confront the loss) of Dar’khan? of Kael’thas? And what are those things?

Another way this could also play out is that we see Rommath forced to suddenly confront a loss (a past one or a new one) and he handles it very poorly, which ultimately leads to a dangerous and/or difficult situation for everyone and we have to help him face and overcome that pain (let’s hope Umbric’s right there by our side helping too)

I finally figured out who Umbric reminds me of

(Besides Sonic the Hedgehog anyways; it’s the spiky hair and the blue). I was watching some Futurama clips and the sheer confidence and arrogance Umbric displays in the current Midnight storyline makes me think of Zapp Brannigan.

Rommath: Umbric, I don’t think that’s wise.

Umbric, wagging his finger: Rommath, if there’s one thing I don’t need, it’s your “I don’t think that’s wise” attitude.

Umbric: *almost annihilates the world trying to access the Voidstorm*

Umbric: Whoopsie-daisie!

Umbric is like if Zapp got a huge promotion after blowing up the Doop headquarters
