Selling A Used Guitar (Except at Guitar Center)

Trying to sell a practically brand-new Yamaha F335 guitar. Guitar Center wouldn't take it cause I bought it from them not so long ago for barely $170+tax, so they say it's worthless for them to take back now.

I'm guessing there might be some stores in town that take used instruments -- looking for some specific recommendations, if any!

Responding to On-campus Job Offers

So I’ve got 1 offer so far for an on campus job, which was communicated on Monday (08/10). I just had an interview for another job, which is my first choice, and it went well so I think I might be in contention for it. However, I was told not to expect to hear back about the second interview until Friday next week (08/21). On top of that, I’ve got another interview for 08/18, which would be my second choice.

Obviously in the worst case scenario if I don’t end up getting either my first or second choice jobs, I’ll take the first offer. But, I’ll only be able to reply to the first offer around the 21st, which I’m guessing would be too late for them (they didn’t mention a deadline on the email).

Ballbusting scenario - how would y’all deal with it

Northside - Payment Schedule

Someone earlier asked about Northside’s payment schedules as well, but I was wondering if someone could expand on it. Say I sign an annual lease for a 1000 bucks a month with the move in on the 20th,
a) when and how much would I have to pay the deposit (and whatever hidden fees there might be). I did read on the website that it would be the deposit (200), first month’s rent (1000).
b) how does the monthly rent schedule work after that? for September, would I pay September’s rent between September 1–5, or would that payment window (Sep 1–5) actually cover August, meaning September’s rent would be due between October 1–5? Basically, are rent payments made at the beginning of the month you’re living there, or for the month that’s already passed?

Just trying to figure out how much cash I’d need and when!

On-campus Job Interview Tips

As the title says, I’ve been lucky enough to land an interview. Two, actually—but I already fumbled the first one and didn’t get the job, so I really need to lock in for this second one.

The interview’s in a week (for UREC). For those of you who’ve worked on campus, how did you approach your interview? I’m guessing it went pretty well if you ended up getting hired.

I’m currently doing a corporate internship, and that interview was much more “corporate”—mostly standard behavioral questions. But my first on-campus interview completely caught me off guard when they asked me what my favorite animal was, when I hadnt even given a question like that a thought💀

$2000/3000 Loans in the U.S. - Intl' Undergrad

As the title, says I only really need a small amount to plug the hole in my account for the short-term, as I start to earn from my on-campus role, and pay of my rent using that. The problem is that, I only recently opened my credit account, (2 months, so not a great score nor history), and don't have a U.S. cosignee to work with either.

Mind you, my tuition is paid for - the loan amount would only be necessary for spending outisde of tuition: the apartment's deposit, accessories, etc. for the first few weeks.

I have tried MPOWER, but that didn't work. That seemed like my best shot, but I'm now out of ideas. What else should I be looking at in this situation?

(yes, I can see someone say "oh why don't you just ask your family for something that small", well you see that's the problem - I'm not going to, so I'm looking for external funding)

Thanks for your help!

FICA Exemption Application

I’m still in year 2 of my F-1, and on CPT this summer. I haven’t been paid yet, but I want to give my employer a heads up on the fact that I wouldn’t have to pay Medicare and SS taxes.

Is there something I should be doing in particular to make them aware about it — like fill out a form or sm — or do I just send HR an email?

(I’m also the first visa intern at the company, so the process the is new to them as well)

Bike Rentals

I'm in Sarasota for the summer, and want to rent a bicycle to get around to work and other places. I haven't found a place yet where I can get a weekly/monthly rental (12 weeks) — most places seem to only do daily beach cruiser rentals for tourists.

Does anyone know of any local bike shops, services, or even individuals that do longer-term rentals? Doesn't need to be anything fancy, just something reliable enough for commuting around town for the summer. Thanks!

Sarasota High School - Soccer Field Usage

I posted a question a while ago about soccer fields in Sarasota, and got some really good recommendations: Robert L. Taylor, Fruitville Park, etc. But I just came across Sarasota High School and its supposed soccer field on Google Maps.

To the best of your knowledge and experience (I’m not from Sarasota, just here for a summer internship), is the general public allowed to train alone on the pitch there? I’m mainly just looking to do some solo passing/shooting and conditioning when it’s not in use by the school or teams.

Tampa/Sarasota - Subcision (not Taylor) + CO2

As the title says, I'm looking to get a few sessions of treatment done on my scars (after a consultation) in the Tampa area. I will be in Sarasota, but because it's not a huge city, I'm guessing I'll have to venture further north up to Tampa or south to Fort Myers.

If you've been treated in the area and had good results with subcision + fractional/ablative CO2 (preferably from someone experienced with acne scarring specifically, not just general cosmetic lasers), I'd really appreciate recommendations!

SSN Processing Time - Dallas

Here's my situation - I had my SSN appointment on Thursday last week (5/14), but my internship starts next week, and the employer wants my SSN (to process a badge application). I walked into an SSA office today (N Central Expressway - to ask whether they'd be able to tell me my SSN, they didn't), but the officer said that my card was processed on the 14th itself, and I might find it in my mail before Thursday (5/21).

That's encouraging, but I'm still skeptical about when I might get it, since I still have to book my flights out and housing where I'm doing my internship.

For those folks in the DFW area, how long did it take for you to get your SSN card?

SSN before the card gets delivered

Earlier today (Thur 5/14), I did a walk-in SSN application, got it approved. My CPT Internship employer however, an airport, need my SSN to apply for a specific federal badge. Obviously, given that I only applied for it today, it might be a week or so before I get the card (Dallas area resident), but my employer wants my SSN asap cause the badge application itself takes a few days.

Is there any way to get my SSN number earlier than waiting for the physical card in the mail?Trying to avoid delaying my internship start date over this.

SSN before CPT start date

Here's the context, my CPT, as approved, starts on Monday (5/18), but the employer is an airport, and they need my SSN number to share with some sort of federal agencies (I'm guessing) and then get me badged up to start working at the airport. The only problem here being that I only got my CPT I-20 today, so I obviously don't have a SSN yet.

My plan rn is to go down to a SSA office (I'm in Dallas) at about 8/8:30, hopefully get it sorted tomorrow. Obviously, there are a few problems even with this. First, apparently SSA wants folks to apply for an SSN only after the start date of the internship (which won't work for me cause I can't start working without a SSN without losing work time), and second, I'll still need to wait for the card to be delivered (however, the airport only need the SSN number, not the card itself).

If any of y'all have been in a similar situation, how would you go about getting out of this shitshow?

Soccer Fields in Sarasota

I’m moving to Sarasota this summer for an internship and I’m also really into soccer, so I’m looking for places to train while I’m there.

I’ve seen a few posts mentioning the Robert Taylor Community Complex for pickup games. Does anyone know if it’s also okay to just go there and train on my own? I’m assuming it’s free for public use, but I wanted to double-check.

If not, are there any other free, public soccer fields or good spots nearby? For context, I’ll be near USF.

Thanks in advance!

I’m a sophomore from Texas (20M), and I’ve got a summer internship in the Sarasota area (roughly between the 3rd week of May and mid-August). Looking for a place off campus for around $1500 a month.

Open to subleases, short-term leases, or roommates—pretty flexible as long as it’s within a reasonable commute. I’m clean, respectful, and will mostly be working during the week.

If anyone has leads or is looking for a roommate for the summer, feel free to DM me!
