How is the grading in courses in the School of AI? (For MINDS, research program electives etc).

Asking because the PhD program has a hard GPA lower limit of 7.5, and for the department honorarium it's 8. Is it difficult to maintain 8?

Living alone: safety & figuring out if you aren't in a safe headspace?

TW: Discussion of past SI act (in the abstract, not descriptive)

So I am finally accepted at a PhD program and it's the best thing ever except... it's in a different city.

Which was expected, but still.

It's a problem because, though I am 27M, I have never really lived alone.

Also, I have a history of a few attempts. The last one was three years ago but it was really dangerous and it was almost the end for me. That gave me a PTSD diagnosis and I am really nervous and risk-averse about certain things, one of which is living alone.

Given my history it does seem reasonable for me to be worried about this unless I have a safety plan in place that takes into account that no one is out there to save me from myself.

So... how do y'all handle this?

PS: I will be discussing this extensively with my therapist and my psychiatrist.

Those of you who live alone, how do you handle safety and figuring out that you are not in a good / not in a safe headspace?

Regarding medical certificate -- what is it used for? (I have a chronic illness, and as per the format, am unfit for admission).

I'm joining for PhD now, and I was just checking the medical form. I got scared seeing

"Declaration by student: I am not suffering from any chronic illness like bronchial asthma..."

Now if this form will just be taken during admission and buried in some cupboard somewhere then is okay. If that is the case I will take the Gandhian* approach (paper with Gandhi on it)

But I don't want to get into trouble in case they later come to know ki I have a particular problem (it is very much under control now but 5 years is a long time).

If you use NVIDIA Isaac Sim for reinforcement learning, do you use Isaac Lab with it? Just want to get a sense of what the status quo is. [D]

The reason for this query is that I am in the process of shifting to Isaac Sim / Isaac Lab since that is what seems to be in use nowadays. However, Isaac Lab is proving to be somewhat difficult to handle.

While it handles the logging, and the creation of multi-actor systems for algorithms like PPO beautifully (with, say, hundreds of actors), its documentation leaves much to be desired. I am also concerned about the ease of setting up new robotic environments, actions, rewards, policies and possibly even custom algorithms.

So, what is it that you do at your lab?

In my mind there's a trade-off. On the one hand, I use the Isaac Lab scaffolding but run into its idiosyncracies very frequently until I document everything I need. Or, I interface directly with Isaac Sim, but then I need to write my own handlers for interfacing Isaac Sim with the RL agent.

Just finished season 1 of Grid:Legends. Enjoyed myself thoroughly. What should I do next?

Coming from Need for Speed, I found the driving challenging but really, really enjoyable. Definitely more immersive than even, say, Forza Horizon 4.

However, I'm not so sure about the next few seasons. Like, the classic carnage one, for instance -- if it's anything like the stadium trucks, I'll give it a pass.

What games should I try next? Is it worth trying the multiplayer in this one?

[Side note: As someone from the Global South, I find the characters really endearing. A tad stereotypical perhaps, but the key elements are there. Ado's strong bonds with his roots, his family, and his expressiveness. Tanaka's competitive siblingish rivalry, as well as her vulnerability after the accident. Singh. chefs kiss. ]

EDIT: On PC.

How was today's IITD MINDS (Yardi ScAI) exam? When will the results come out?

The urgency in the results is because the interviews for PhD are next week itself.

Aptitude section: doable but annoying. One Q needed too much prime numbers.

Maths: Study probability well from Ross First Course. Question related to central limit theorem came. Some calculus questions came but nothing from optimization per se. Lin alg questions were easy.

ML: idk how to explain this part. Could be easy if you have studied ML properly for long time. Will be very hard if you only know ML from API point of view.

DSA: this was annoying because here you actually need to have grip on full DSA. Not just the little bit they suggested. Question related to backtracking came. Dp basic and greedy basic q also came.
