Listened to staff meeting at recent psych ward stay

I sat outside their meeting room (which apparently needs some sound proofing) and pretended to be using the phone on the wall. I got to hear them go through every patient (very small place - few patients) and their current status to evaluate possible dates for discharge. Lots of judgmental comments; "she's a sex worker - she must abuse her suboxone", "of course he has mental problems, he drinks vodka everyday, hahah!", "Bob really needs to take a shower" (okay, that one was true), "Revoke phone privileges for Jason, he was rude to the nurse". Nice little window into their world. I'm sure the providers who lurk here will accuse me of fabrication. We know what you think of us, SSRI slingers. Your career is a joke.

Treacherous trip to liquor store

I checked my BAC and it was .02 so I figured I was good. The store is only a mile away. Unfortunately, there was some type of tree work going on right outside the store. I was shaky and anxious and didn't understand the direction the cop directing traffic was giving me. He gave me the "WTF!" hand motion and I gave him an apologetic response. Thank fucking God he didn't pull me over. Once inside the store, I realized the top of my pants were unfastened. Fucking train wreck today. I got my booze and a look of "you're pathetic" from the liquor store dude. Good luck out there fellow booze bags. That was a close one.

Fantasies of a new life

Has anyone ever had the (irrational) urge to move across the country or even to a different country to escape the pain and rejection of divorce? I want a new identity.

Jealous of the MAT (medically assisted treatment) that Fent users receive

I recently got out of rehab. Many of us alcoholics are still miserable sober. Our MAT options are Campral (acamprosate), vivitrol, naltrexone and Antabuse (disulfiram). All medications designed block cravings, reduce the pleasure felt when drinking or to make you violently ill if you do drink. The heroin and fentanyl patients receive Suboxone, which they seem to do well on. Honestly, some of them still seemed high. They were pretty happy when they lined up at 6am to get their dose. I wish that there was something similar for booze. I'm still shaky and anxious when I wake up sober. I know benzos would be the only drug that would be similar but obviously that wouldn't be a good idea.

Disorganized detox lost my credit card

They offer a kind service where they go to some store to buy flavored vapes for you , but, they lost my card in the process somehow. I'm grateful because now that I'm home I have absolutely no way to buy any booze. Not a cent, not a quarter, not a damn dollar for a nip of vodka.

This feels very odd for me to say as a bigtime benzo lover but they also over-Ativaned me on day one. They kept coming into my room and giving me larger doses. I wasn't in reality for about 24 hours. It was pretty strange. I prefer Valium.

There was a woman there who claimed to have consumed 14 bottles of wine in 1 hour. Is that even physically possible?

Painful Zoom PHP

I live in an area that doesn't have many good treatment options so I'm doing a PHP via zoom. They require the camera to stay on and they harass you about it if you turn it off ("it's for safety reasons"). I'm going to fucking fall asleep on Zoom.

Going to detox tonight

Here we go again. I'm ready for the sleepless nights staring at the clock. For the weird roommates and the med passes. Wish me luck, kids. I want off this ride but tapering doesn't seem to do the job for me. My sanity is getting to a questionable level due to lack of sleep. I had to pay a $500 copay upfront. Another adventure begins! I hope everyone is feeling the best they can today.

Anybody watch old episodes of Intervention?

They are overly dramatic (well yeah, it's a tv show) with the "if Bob doesn't stop drinking, I don't think he'll last six months". Alcoholics can live long, miserable, sickly lives. We don't usually drop dead quickly. Also, threatening the boozer with "you're going to die if you don't stop!" line - do you think we don't know that, or that we necessarily care? Dear Bob, your alcoholism has impacted me negatively in the following ways...

"Why is your face red?"

Oh, it's the vapes, I was eating spicy food, I took a hot shower, it's hot today, I think I have allergies! Anyone got another excuse? It was actually the booze. And the vapes, though. They're really not good for your skin.
