Was this Mauritius Note made this way?

This is either the most precise invisible fold that I’ve ever seen or it’s something like a security strip. Can anybody shed some light on what this is?

It sometimes bothers me that I have no potential left

At one point in my life, I had a lot of potential. I was just good at certain things. I was fortunate that I converted that potential into a happy comfortable life.

But for so much of my life, I viewed life through the lens of moving up or improving on things. Of course I’m talking careerwise.

So now I’m on the end of my career. The next job that I take actually be a lower position than the one that I left, (which was not my idea). In a way, it really doesn’t matter much because I’m reasonably set for retirement and I just need to get from here there (to build on a pension). On the other hand, it’s weird to step down a bit, even if I think I will enjoy the lower level of responsibility. But like I say, it bugs me that all of my potential is gone. And at some point, none of it’s gonna matter much at all.

Where would you take a 4 day weekend in Georgia?

I’m in a situation where I can take a four day weekend to go camping. But I have to do it sometime within the next few weeks or so. I don’t live in Georgia, but since I have more time to travel, I’m considering camping in Georgia. Perhaps North Georgia.

What campgrounds do you recommend that I look at? I really enjoy state parks.

So, how are those propane fire pit/grill combos?

Hey all,

I have a propane port/connector coming out of the side of my travel trailer. I was thinking it would be kind of cool to get one of those portable fireplaces that comes with a grill so I could cook on it or just hang out around the fire and shut it off when done. Seems like a good idea because I don’t need to carry any wood, I don’t have to wait for the fire to build before cooking, nor do I have to worry about properly extinguishing the fire.

But it seems like there could be downsides. Are my marshmallows going to taste like propane? Does it burn through the propane super fast making sitting around the fire unrealistic? Also, has anyone ever tried throwing a couple of wood logs on top of it to get them to start burning and then just shut off the gas or would that be messy?

What’s your experience with these?

I don’t really care what my rating is and don’t know why people stress over it

So compared to most of you I guess I’m not that good at chess. If I have lots of time to make my moves, I’m probably somewhere in the 800 to 900 range but it’s hard to tell because I only play a few people on the app.

But when I play faster games, I figured out that if I lose a few, then my opponents are a lot easier, and I quickly climb the ladder back again. The way the system is set up if you win too many then you’re in over your head and you start losing. So it’s like you win half and you lose half on average unless you’re slowly improving which I guess I am.

But here’s the thing: I was a standout in mathematics in high school, but there are people who can calculate huge numbers in their head and are way better than me. Maybe I could beat my next-door neighbor in Chess, but there are people who can play multiple games blindfolded. I feel like I could spend my life pursuing the game of chess and maybe attain some high rating, but realistically, there are children who out of the gate can visualize the game much better than I ever will be able to. So I don’t stress about it. I wasn’t born a Savant at chess nor was I born a Savant at mathematics or music or any of those things.

So in conclusion, whether my rating is X, or 1000+ X, or 2000+ X, in the scheme of things what does it really matter and if I suddenly had a rating of 2000. I would systematically lose it game by game until I reach the level that I really play at. If my rating dropped to half of what it is, I would probably win every game for a while until I found that level again.

Enjoy the game. I think it’s one of the best games there is. Don’t stress over it.

Long road trip but staying on only state parks?

Like my poorly worded, subject title tries to say: I’m wondering if it’s possible to drive across country and only stay in state parks along the way. I’m asking this because they seem to be fairly priced, and typically the lot sizes are a little bit more generous than they’re a little bit more wooded which I like.

Has anybody tried this? I’m wondering if the state parks are too far apart to make this feasible…. like if you were trying take interstate 10 West all the way across the United States would many of the state parks be just too far off the road to make this feasible? Or maybe enough of them are close enough to the interstate that if you’re not picky about when you stop driving for the day, it’s doable? Especially if I’m willing to Boondock in a parking lot once in a while Or maybe I’d find they are too booked up.

I live in Florida and they have enough state parks in this state to make me believe that such a thing is possible. But maybe Florida State parks are more common than other states?

Any feedback is appreciated.

My dog is sweet and sour. What to expect camping with him

This is him. The best dog I’ve ever had and the worst dog I’ve ever had. He’s either great or awful. In this picture he’s sitting in my lap, but he will turn his head upside down instead of turning it around to look at me, in hopes that I will also scratch his chin. He demands attention and he can be super mischievous. He will steal things just so we will chase him. But he will intentionally cuddle with us., putting his face against our face He will bark when he’s jealous or angry of us like if we’re eating and he’s not. He’s not really a yappy dog per se, but I could see him raising hell if we left him in his crate while we went out hiking at a campground. (And yes, I know about remote temperature sensing in that kind of thing.)

I’m sure on Reddit, all of you have dogs who are angels on earth. But what about the rest of you? What trials and tribulations did you go through or did you have any at all?

I have grown children so I don’t have to take the dog with me, but sometimes that might not be feasible. And what if they move out of town when I retire when I want my traveling to really ramp up?

Hey Tally, where can I dump a trailer full of brush and logs and pick up rock soil?

Re-doing my backyard. I plan to rent a dump trailer over the weekend and load up the remains of a cut up tree and yard waste. Where can I dump it on a weekend?

I also want to buy a load of soil and a load of rock …ideally the. seller must have a loader to drop it into the trailer. Any place selling soil and/it rock on a Saturday or Sunday?

Thanks for any recommendations.

Back in the game. After 10 years without a camper my wife and I bought this yesterday and we’re camping on the way back. We plan to take it all over the U.S.

Help a brother out and show me your closed slide out

I’ve been looking at pictures of a TT I hope to buy this weekend. I think I noticed in the pix that the bottom of the slide sticks out a little bit. It’s a shwintek (spelling?) and I know about how you can seat a side to side misalignment.

I also know that 1/2 inch of difference is acceptable as long as the bulb seals are compressed.

And I even know how to figure out if the gear is stripped or skipping.

What I don’t know is how much imperfection is considered normal. I tried to ind pictures of closed slide outs on the internet but all the photos show them open or the photo is taken from 1/2 a mile away.

Anyone care to share a photo of their closed slide out? Is it a little wonky?

Is there a plug for a trailer brake on my Yukon even though it didn’t come with one?

I have a 2020 Yukon. It’s not equipped with a trailer brake controller. However, I had the idea that I could swap out the dash panel where the brake controller SHOULD go for a dash panel that already has a brake controller. Then, if there is a plug available under the dash, I could just plug it in.

Has anyone done this? Is the plug hiding in there even though my Yukon doesn’t have the controller? The controllers are compatible with 2015 through 2020 Sierras Yukons, Tahoes etc.

Also: if I do find the plug and do hook up a brake controller, do I need to do some kind of computer programming to tell my truck that the trailer brake is there? Or will it know?

Similar to this procedure except I have to swap the entire front dash plate : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snJnZZrEYT4

Stupid problem with installing a trailer brake assembly

Solved:

I bought a trailer brake assembly to install in my 2020 Yukon. I understand how the assembly goes into the dashboard. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to install the levers unless I’m supposed to take the thing apart. Or risk bending something How do you get the levers in? I was hoping to find information on YouTube about it, but I can’t find anything.

Had a thought: How much do you lose putting a suitcase solar kit inside an RV window?

OK, I know that a glass window filters out UVA and UVB light. I was wondering if anyone here has ever tried setting up their “suitcase” solar panel kit inside their trailer up against one of the windows?

(This might be useful in a high crime area or perhaps for battery maintenance during Storage.)

What is this holed note worth?

I know what I paid for it. And there might be records of my purchase price out there, though I did get a discount. But what I’m not clear on is what the actual value of the note is because it has hole in it. It’s a “tidy” hole where someone put it on a spindle pack in the early 1900s I presume. Perhaps at a currency clearing house. What I’m confused on is does the numerical grade of the note taken into consideration the defect? And how much of a discount is applied to the market value of the note in that grade despite the fact that the grade is already lower?

I thought it was a cool looking note for the money I paid.

Air bags, air shocks or something else?

What do you recommend for firming up the rear of a GMC Yukon? I promise the trailer and hitch isn’t too heavy…just want the best handling while towing.
