Walter Becomes a Big Brother

About 3 weeks ago my wife brought home a 12 week old labradoodle. After the initial excitement, Walter settled into big brotherhood reluctantly – never aggressive but not really welcoming.

Now, he has gone on to fully embrace Ollie. What’s even more adorable is how much Ollie loves Walter – following him everywhere, taking his cues for potty from him, and even imitating his play sounds.

And Walter is so patient and gentle with him too. I’m a proud dog dad 🥰

What has it been like for you when introducing a new dog, puppy, or other animal into the family?

Walter achieves peak relaxation

I’m in my mid-40s, have had a good life, and consider myself to be extremely fortunate. However, I don’t think I’ve ever been able to achieve the level of relaxation and leisure that Walter seems to get to every day (unless I leave the house without him, at which point he gets quite distressed).

If reincarnation happens, I want to come back as a pampered chihuahua. Anyone else?

Chi fast AF, boyyy 💨

Walter is always down for a good game of chase and is thus far undefeated. My boy is damn near uncatchable.

Do your little sun gods and blanket lords ever surprise you with their speed and agility??

Do your chi’s even blanket??

Walter says it’s only blanket-time, unless it’s sunbathing time, or zoomie time… but most of the time it’s blanket.

My last dog was obsessed with blankets too. Is this something I am responsible for as a pet parent, or do your chihuahuas burrow into blankets too?

Sun dog

Walter loves to bask in the sun. He isn’t much for swimming but if you put a towel down he appropriates it with the quickness.

Do your chihuahuas like sunbathing too?

Walter got a hoodie

My big little guy got a sweet new hoodie today. He loves being covered by soft blankets so this is a major bonus for him.

I traded a 1980s Peugeot single speed conversion for this a couple months back with someone who didn’t have the time for this project. It was in ROUGH condition but a kickback 2-speed was on my grail list so I went for it.

After complete disassembly and reassembly with fresh grease, several hours spent polishing the chrome with fine steel wool, and a boiled linseed oil treatment for the patina it looked a lot better. But I couldn’t get the hub to change gears.

Fortunately, a friend hooked me up with a NOS kickback hub of the same vintage. Slapped a Brooks B-17 that I wasn’t using onto it and mounted a bent to hell but period correct “Schwinn Approved” front rack that I found on marketplace and put back into alignment.

Now we’re cruising in style and kicking back easier than a corrupt politician.. I mean, politician.

I had to drop a package at the post office and the clamp on the front rack secured it so well that I didn’t even need to bust out a bungee.

Anyways, I’ll take an old steel bike over most modern bicycles any day. I may not get there as quickly but I’m always having a good day when I’m pedaling a classic 😎
