Unabomber - Representation has gone too far once again

I just watched Netflix's Unabomber. I have seen many documentaries and biopics on this series of events. This left a bad taste in my mouth because of Netflix's decision to switch the gender of the protagonist, the real forensic linguist named James R. Fitzgerald.

I don't have a problem with creative liberties in a biopic. Obviously, you can't fit an entire investigation or someone's life into a two-hour movie. But there's a big difference between condensing events and changing who actually did something.

In the Unabomber case, the real forensic linguist was James R. Fitzgerald, a man who played an important role in the investigation. Netflix instead created a fictional female FBI agent and gave her much of the investigative work associated with Fitzgerald. That wasn't necessary to tell the story, and viewers who don't know the history can easily come away believing that fictional character actually existed and did those things.

My concern isn't that the character is a woman. It's that when movies and series presented as being based on true events repeatedly alter the identities and accomplishments of real people, they can eventually distort the public's understanding of history.

There's nothing wrong with representation, but I don't think representation should come at the expense of historical accuracy—especially when the real people and their contributions are interesting enough to tell the story honestly in the first place.

Shipwrecked: Was Dani the problem?

I love how everyone in the cast is now getting along so well in the final episode.

It makes me wonder if Dani was the problem?

Jarrell was negative and rude. The mocking and constant jabs were uncalled for. Although I feel like he just wanted recognition because he was pulling the most weight, he handled it all wrong.

With that said, now that everyone has come together, they are all getting along and everyone is pulling their weight. It makes me wonder if Dani was actually more of the issue.

In a survival situation, you can't worry about Crabs and Shrimp fighting in the same pot.

She lost all credibility when she left. She had everyone there to support her and to keep distance from Jarrell. It was immature.

The finale was great. Nice to see the teamwork.

What are your thoughts?

Are people enjoying Season 3 of The Traitors Australia?

So far I think it is pretty entertaining. However, I find that the women in this group have terrible reads that are mostly based on feelings. It is almost like if a faithful gets upset and does something obviously faithful (to me) they take it as traitor behavior. Is anyone else noticing that?

A couple other comments:

AJ did such a great job. I was super impressed by hime. His strategy was risky but I thought it might work. I was sad to see home go.

I felt kinda bad for Henry too. He was spot on with Kirby but he made the mistake of trying to guess 3 at once. Before he got banished I had THOUGHT he learned his lesson on that. But he CONTINUED to bring up all 3 instead of just saying Kirby and then the conversation got deflected because the twins took offense. That was just bad gameplay. 🤦

Worst season of The Traitors

I have seen every season of The Traitors for US, UK and Canada.

I finally got around to watching Season 2 of The Traitors US. Here are my observations:

  1. Season 2 of The Traitors US is BY FAR the worst season of any US, UK or Canadian seasons.

  2. Enough with the celebrities. It is much better with regular people who NEED the money and play tooth and nail for it.

  3. The housewives are the worst. They don't even play the game. They are too prissy to even do any challenges where they get dirty. They stick together (along with other Bravo peeps) even when they know the others housewives are traitors, and it ruins the game. If you want to watch Housewives then watch their show. This should be a reality competition show and they take that fun out of it.

  4. I have no idea how Sandra won Survivor twice. She is not smart and she played awful in Season 2 US. For what it is worth, she also did terrible in Extracted recently. Time for to retire and never be heard from again.

  5. The UK version has had the best seasons, then Canada. The US version is bad with the exception of the most recent season. This was really only because of Rob, who was one of the top traitors to watch and play the game. I hope they go back to regular people next.
