OSF- CPAP

Hi all! I’m new to town and was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. I’m trying to get a general sense of what to expect cost-wise if I get a CPAP/APAP machine and supplies through OSF.
I know everyone’s costs will vary depending on insurance, deductible, etc., but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through OSF. How much did the machine cost, was it rent-to-own, and roughly what did you pay monthly? I’d also love to know what replacement masks, cushions, tubing, filters, and other supplies tend to cost and whether there were any unexpected charges or things you wish you had known beforehand.
Just trying to get a ballpark idea of what I should budget for. Thank you!

Query for Gen Z

Hi all, I’d appreciate some perspective.
I’m a middle-aged woman and rent out a room in my home to a 26-year-old girl. We’ve lived together quite respectfully so far. Her friends come over and there were a few dates. Pretty usual stuff.
My concern is that she has now invited a man she met online to stay in the house for three days, despite never having met him in person. From our conversation, it didn’t seem like she even knew basic things about him, such as where he works. I didn’t ask. This was information that she shared while jumping with joy.
What bothers me is that a complete stranger would be staying in a home where I also live. Maybe I’m just an old-fashioned millennial, but I’m the type of person who would verify someone’s identity, meet them several times in public, and know a fair bit about them before inviting them into my home. The guy is coming from out of state for this booty call.
Am I being overly cautious, or is it reasonable to be uncomfortable with someone you’ve never met staying in a shared house? I’m genuinely looking for different perspectives.

Two body problem and moving States

Hi everyone,
My partner recently relocated to the Athens, Georgia, area for work, and I’d really like for us to be in the same city again.
I have a PhD in English and currently work in higher education. I make 62 K and have benefits. Given how competitive the academic job market is, I’m open to considering a range of opportunities—not just traditional faculty positions. At this stage of my life, I’m less concerned about prestige and more interested in building a stable life with the people who matter most. What I do need are health benefits more than anything else and some obey to sustain myself in Athens or places closeby.
For those familiar with Athens and the surrounding area, what employers, industries, or positions would you recommend?

Query

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice. My partner recently relocated to the Athens, Georgia, area for work, and I’d really like for us to be in the same city again.
I have a PhD in English and currently work in higher education and make about 62K. Given how competitive the academic job market is, I’m open to considering a range of opportunities—not just traditional faculty positions. At this stage of my life, I’m less concerned about prestige and more interested in building a stable life with the people who matter most. What I do need is a reliable paycheck, good health benefits, and work that is meaningful and sustainable.
For those familiar with Athens and the surrounding area, what employers, industries, or positions would you recommend? I’m interested in higher education, instructional design, writing and communications, technical writing, nonprofits, government, healthcare, or other roles where my skills could transfer well.

Sleep starts/jerks

Hi everyone,
I have idiopathic sleep myoclonus. My symptoms are almost entirely related to sleep onset—the transition between wakefulness and sleep. I experience frequent jerks as I’m falling asleep, and the insomnia became so severe that I was eventually prescribed gabapentin.
Recently, I’ve also started noticing a feeling of pressure on my left side when I’m lying down trying to sleep. My EEG and brain MRI have both been normal. I don’t have balance problems, tremors, or slowness of movement.
I survived breast cancer a few years ago, and my mom was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 65. Because of that family history, I’ve become increasingly anxious about whether these jerks could be an early sign of Parkinson’s. That said, I’ve seen neurologists over the years, and none of them have suggested Parkinson’s. My symptoms also began about eight years ago after taking antidepressants, and they tend to come in flare-ups. It is also not restless legs syndrome.
I’m finally scheduled to see a movement disorders specialist. Has anyone experienced something similar? Can sleep-onset myoclonus by itself be an early sign of Parkinson’s, especially when it has been present for eight years without tremor, balance problems, or other typical symptoms?
Also, what questions would you recommend I ask the movement specialist to make the most of the appointment?

Sleep myoclonus

40F | Non-smoker | Non-drinker | Breast cancer survivor | Medications: Anastrozole, Zoladex, Gabapentin (occasional clonazepam as needed) | History of myoclonus/sleep jerks, prior MRI and EEG reportedly normal and epilepsy ruled out.
Hi everyone,
I have a long history of sleep-related myoclonus/jerks, but I am currently experiencing what feels like a breakthrough flare. For the past several days, I have been having symptoms mainly on the left side of my body.
As I am falling asleep or during sleep, I experience:
Left-sided headache and pressure
Pain/sensations affecting the left side of my body
Abdominal/stomach spasms or a pulling sensation
Jerks that wake me up or prevent me from sleeping. The symptoms disappear when I wake up albeit with a racing heart.
I have had a brain MRI and EEG in the past, and epilepsy was ruled out. What concerns me is that this episode seems much more one-sided than usual and is causing significant insomnia.
No day time weakness or muscle issues or anything.
Does this sound more consistent with worsening myoclonus, a sleep-related disorder, migraine, or something else? What mediations beside clonzapam which is very effective but I avoid for the long run no could help? I have wrestled with this thing for years and still struggle to even explain it to doctors.
