Tips for getting a job in smaller retail stores?

Greetings, I hope you are having a good day

I am currently going through a legal process against my former employer (which was a major luxury retail store) and as such have found myself unemployed.

I am currently a uni student and have absolutely no intention of having a career in retail, so I'm hoping to find a smaller retail store, or similar that don't give the whole "grow as a person and build your career with us" bogus. In short I want a job where my boss is actually close to being the boss.

I brainstormed some shops i think would be pleasant to work at, book stores, novelty shops, even corner shops near me.

I was wondering what the best approach is to enquiring about working there? I have asperger's so unfortunately have a pretty dead and bland personality when talking to strangers lol. Is cold emailing the best approach? Or does handing in a resume in person work best? I am also looking to do summer units at uni so my availability will mostly be around weekends.

Thanks for any input and I hope I explained everything properly.

Have a great day!

We have been silenced : Australia doctors battle censorship on Gaza

Australian doctors are pushing back against a growing pattern of censorship of pro-Palestinian voices in the country’s healthcare system, after hospitals repeatedly cancelled events featuring medical professionals who have worked in Gaza or spoken about the devastation of its healthcare system amid Israel's genocidal war.

There are now calls for an investigation into restrictions on discussions of Palestine in Australian hospitals, with medical professionals warning that the pattern is preventing doctors from sharing first-hand experiences of treating Palestinian children and working inside Gaza’s devastated hospitals.

Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) cancelled a ‘Children and War’ event just days before it was due to take place on 17 September, after senior management raised concerns about a perceived “pro-Palestinian bias” and discussed preventing Jewish staff from being “upset” by the session, Dr Sue Wareham told The New Arab.

The event was due to feature doctors with experience in Gaza, Afghanistan and Congo discussing the impact of armed conflict on children, but Wareham said Palestine became a central concern behind the hospital’s decision to pull the session.

Wareham, president of the Medical Association for Prevention of War (MAPW) Australia, told TNA that she was scheduled to speak at the event.

However, hospital management explicitly cited concerns about Palestine when explaining the cancellation.

“The initial reason I was told (on 12 September) for the cancellation was that there was concern about there being ‘any perception of pro-Palestinian bias’,” Wareham said.

Happy 25th anniversary of the Jackson 5 reunion

Why is an Australian political party worshipping an American islamaphobe?

Some things I've noticed after finding out I have asperger's

So basically I'm 20 and a couple days ago I found out that as a young kid I was diagnosed with asperger's. And during the past couple of days I've been thinking really deep about my experiences and childhood and came to some realisations. So here we go.

  1. I find most people soooo incredibly boring and frustrating to be around. Like, to the point where they're so boring it makes me angry and makes me resent them. But the people I do find entertaining or pleasant, I love them with all my heart.

  2. If i have a project to do, I can only get it done if I do it all in one sitting

  3. I LOVE being independent and being able to make my own decisions, but i also desperately need a support system to lean on, even if i dont need it.

  4. I approach conversations analytically, so when I'm talking to people it usually sounds like I'm questioning or interrogating them.

  5. I have absolutely NO clue how to make friends or interact "normally" and all my friendships have developed when someone has basically decided to adopt me.

I spent most of my teenage years thinking I was just a loser who nobody liked. So its actually wonderful to find out it all wasn't my fault lol

How come The Daily Telegraph didn't include Bahrain, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus or Kuwait in their map?

Also neither Ethiopia or Algeria are on the do not travel list 🤷‍♂️🤔

Edit: can't believe i have to say this but f*ck Pauline. This is purely a dig at inaccurate journalism and clear clickbait for right wing dumbasses to go "look, a lot of African countries"

Company HR not returning my emails

To summaries i am putting in a dispute for not getting paid for 40 hours of training + my manager cutting ALL my hours for saying i wish to exercise my right to disconnect.

I sent the company HR an email 2 weeks ago and they haven't responded, i sent the state manager an email 2 days ago and got an email saying she apparently has an "encrypted inbox" and the moderator hasn't approved my email.

I have all the proof in the world where (i belive) my case is a guaranteed and I have a meeting with a lawyer next week.

I was wondering if there were any other steps I should/could take?

20m revert from Australia! Looking for my person:)

(Repost as i had no messages from yesterday's post)

About me!

**Age**: 20

**Gender**: Male

**Location**: Australia

**Ethnicity:** White/Lithuanian

**Marital status**: single, never married

**Religious level**: I'm a revert of two years, I'm fairly liberal and critical of my own faith. For example I pray 5 times a day (as much as possible), but I do listen to music and am definitely still learning, would love to meet someone who enjoys sharing their knowledge.

**Occupation/Education:** Currently an undergraduate student at university, I would ideally like to get a phd and have a career assisting women and girls who are victims of sexual violence in war zones.

**Bio:** Hi! I will keep my name private for DMs but I am a revert from Australia and am currently looking for a spouse. I am currently a student and will be entering a very.. heavy career so it will be maybe 3-4 years before I can get married but I think it's very important to know people well before marriage. I enjoy photography and playing cricket and football! I am looking for someone around my age (18-23) and am looking for someone who is confident in themselves and not afraid to speak their voice. I don't exactly have a race preference because I think that's a little unusual but i do think Arab and desi girls are super pretty :)

I will try not to yap too much but there are some important things to note:

I am VERY passionate about monogamy, i think a marriage should only be between 2 people and would never consider a second wife

I am a revert so would ideally like to marry someone who can teach me more about the complexities of Islam

I am a big fan of hugs as a sign of affection (although I've never had them from non family) so I would like you to be a hugger.

And most importantly: I REALLY want someone who values their independence and has their own dreams and goals, I do NOT want a housewife as I think chores should be shared, so I would prefer to meet another student or someone with big career goals.

And finally, my future career will be VERY heavy emotionally so I will need someone who is emotionally affectionate and caring.

If I interest you feel free to send me a dm and yap about yourself!!

(I apologise for the new profile BTW, I just got a new phone (finally got rid of Apple yay!)

Potentially taking legal action against my employer

Hopefully this isn't a dumb question but i am a student and need some help. I am a casual worker for reference

Without going into too much details I have sent the HR of my work and email detailing 2 issues, 1. No payment for over 40 hours worth of mandatory training modules and 2. Adverse action by my manager cancelling ALL my shifts because of me saying I would like to exercise my right to disconnect while I am not at work. (Basically got fired and told to hand in my keys but my contract hasn't technically been terminated)

I have sent a legal service and email and am having a free consultation in 2 weeks where they will explain everything i should do etc legally but i still have some questions for right now.

  1. Am I allowed to begin looking for a new job? Or will be looking for new employment affect any potential avenues for me to take legal action?

  2. How long do these legal processes usually take?

  3. A bit of an open ended question but i would like to hear about other people's experiences?

I am young and relatively new to the work force so this is a little terrifying lol.

Cheers and thanks for any help!
