Combi-Lieutenant, Michaels PLA

Wife bought some PLA at Michaels because the previous stuff I’d been using to print small animals for her had decided to get all wet, and we don’t currently have a dehydrator.

Colour aside, I’m actually pretty pleased with how this Combi-Weapon Lieutenant came out! It’s not perfect, but the filament isn’t calibrated and my settings still need some tweaking (the grey Pauldron is Elegoo PLA+ which is my current go-to for minis).

I also know this guy needs some cleaning up, but it’s the best “whole” Marine I’ve gotten since starting at Christmas, which is why I’m excited to share it.

Printed on a stock Neptune 4 with a 0.2mm nozzle at 0.08mm layer height.

Exorcists Test Model

Started reading Oaths of Damnation again last night and my brain has been telling me to test out the paint scheme again (haven’t tried since 2014). It’s very much a WIP and my camera work is shocking, but I’m pretty happy with it so far as a first attempt! Any advice for painting red will be greatly appreciated, as I’m coming from Raven Guard so my skillset
is almost entirely monochrome!

Test Scheme - Tiger Stripe

Based on Cov_Werks and the official GW painting guide, I’m at a place where maybe Raptors in Tiger Stripe camo might be the way forward.

Now debating whether to do this for a squad, the whole army, or just a few characters like Combi-Lieutenant to merge with my Raven Guard (this model was originally for that army but I didn’t like how it looked so it became a donor - hence the pauldron!)

Thoughts and feedback are appreciated! I’ve been a long term Raptor fan but could never settle with a scheme I liked until now!

Multicam Black Captain (WIP)

Magpie syndrome got me good the other day when I watched COV Werks’ video putting Multicam Black on a Black Templar of all things. This is my humble (and about to be torn to shreds I’m sure) first attempt. I think I have the right idea but need either a smaller brush or more contrast in the colours, but I’m not sure.

He’s not done so any constructive advice is greatly appreciated!

But what if we WERE on Armageddon?

Okay so this is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now, partly as an anxiety-killing exercise but also to incorporate the Armageddon box into my army without filing down the campaign badges or desecrating the banner (which is awesome).

If the Raven Guard deployed anyone to Armageddon, who would it have been? Would they have been sent or would they perhaps have diverted themselves due to longstanding antipathy towards specific Ork Warbosses? I know there’s a Hive Fleet boring down on Deliverance, but it stands to reason that there could be enough strike forces still on their way back who could have diverted.

My question is, who? My initial thoughts were of course, Shrike and Korvydae as they have been fighting Orks longest. Since Skullkrak is dead, and Shrike is confirmed to be fighting the Tyranids (or is he?), that leaves Korvydae - we never found out what happened to Garaghak after the Kastorel-Novem debacle, and Korvydae would be back from his Deathwatch tour by now.

But then, of course, we have everyone’s favourite renegade, Aajz Solari. Of all of the Shadow-Captains (that we know), he would be the one to say “this is a job for us! We’ll be back before the ‘Nids eat everyone!” He’d get in trouble later on, sure, but he’s managed to avoid consequences for this long…

So…thoughts? Do you have thoughts to back up my thinking? Perhaps you have another idea?

As I said, this was a thought exercise more than anything else. I’m not trying to take anything from players of the successors who ARE there, I just thought it would be fun.

Snaaaaaake!

Still in need of cleanup but didn’t do too badly! He’s about as tall as a Primaris Marine on the base.

Printed on stock Neptune 4 with Elegoo PLA+ at 0.08mm layer height with a 0.2mm nozzle.

Some extra tweaking of settings may be required for up close smoothness, but when viewed from arm’s length he looks pretty good!
