Does Anyone Else Feel Like “Guys” Isn’t Fully Gender-Neutral?

Does Anyone Else Feel Like “Guys” Isn’t Fully Gender-Neutral?

Recently I saw a sign put up by some classmates at my high school that addressed everyone as “guys,” and it got me thinking about how that word is used.

I know a lot of people use “guys” as a general term for a group regardless of gender, but as someone who doesn't identify with the gender binary, it still often feels masculine to me.

Like, I understand most people don’t mean any harm by it, but the word itself still comes from a male-gendered term, so sometimes it can feel a bit excluding even when it’s meant to be inclusive.

Does anyone else here feel similarly, or am I overthinking it?

Kinder Joy Still Only Has “Boy” and “Girl” Versions

I saw Kinder Joy at 7-Eleven recently and noticed they still split the product into “boy” and “girl” versions with different colours, themes, and character designs.

As someone who does not exactly identify with the gender binary, it feels a bit strange seeing products still marketed so heavily around a strict gender binary, especially for something as simple as a chocolate toy.

It made me wonder why companies still don’t offer a more neutral option alongside the existing ones.

Does anyone else here notice or feel uncomfortable with this kind of gendered marketing?

Only boys are caned in schools – but what does that teach our daughters?

There is a particular policy in Singapore that I personally feel is gender discriminatory, namely caning in judicial and school contexts. Apart from that, I don't think caning solves the root cause of wrongdoing, inflicts physical and possibly psychological harm which is highly criticised by a reputable human rights organisation, Amnesty International. I have created a petition to call for its abolition so you can check out:

YouTube’s AI Age Verification Raises Privacy Concerns

I’ve been seeing YouTube roll out AI-based age verification, which may include things like facial scans or ID checks to confirm a user's age.

It feels a bit uncomfortable that accessing certain content could involve sharing more sensitive personal data with a third party.

In reality, “confirm your age” can quickly turn into handing over more personal information than people are comfortable with, and there’s always some concern about how that data is stored or handled. There are also privacy and data misuse risks.

There’s a petition about this that now has 4,800+ supporters, so it’s clear others are also thinking about it.

If you want to read more or support the petition:

Today marks 16 years since PewDiePie started his channel.

From early Let’s Plays to becoming the biggest YouTuber in the world, and then completely changing his content style over time — it’s kind of crazy how much of YouTube’s history he’s been part of.

Out of curiosity I went back and checked what he’s been posting recently, and it’s honestly very different from what I remember during the 2013–2020 era.

If you haven’t looked at his channel in a while, it might be interesting to see how it’s changed:

What era of his content do you remember most?
