Qwen3.8-27B on M1 Max 32GB: MLX 15.8 tok/s vs llama.cpp 9.7 tok/s - but llama.cpp prefill is faster

I’ve been setting up an M1 Max Mac Studio (24-core GPU, 32GB unified memory) as a local LLM server and wanted to compare MLX vs llama.cpp on Qwen3.8-27B.
I tried to keep the model footprint and benchmark workload reasonably close.

MLX
mlx-community/Qwen3.8-27B-4bit
~16.1GB
512 prompt tokens / 700 generation tokens
3 runs
Prompt: 81.76 tok/s
Generation: 15.81 tok/s
Peak memory: 16.39GB

llama.cpp
unsloth/Qwen3.8-27B-GGUF:UD-Q4_K_M
15.32 GiB / 27.32B params
Full Metal offload
Flash Attention enabled
512 prompt tokens / 700 generation tokens
3 runs
Prompt: 99.61 ± 0.44 tok/s
Generation: 9.69 ± 0.34 tok/s

So on this machine:
llama.cpp is ~22% faster for prompt processing, while MLX is ~63% faster for autoregressive generation.

Any accessories specifically made for the 2026 Model Y RWD base model?

Hi everyone,

I recently got the 2026 Tesla Model Y RWD base model. I am enjoying it overall, but it misses a few features and finishes available on the higher trims.

I wanted to ask whether any accessory manufacturers are already making products specifically compatible with, or designed around, this base model rather than just generic Model Y accessories.

For anyone else who owns the 2026 RWD base model:

  1. What accessories have you actually bought and found worthwhile?

  2. Are there any brands making accessories specifically for this trim?

  3. Anything that did not fit properly or was not worth the money?

  4. Any upgrades to avoid because of warranty, safety, rattles, power drain or installation issues?

I am based in the UK, so UK-available brands or sellers would be particularly helpful. Photos, links and real-world experience would be appreciated.

Are we celebrating Keralam’s real history and culture enough?

Sometimes I feel we Malayalis are not celebrating our own history properly.

When we talk about Kerala culture, we often stop at Onam, sadya, backwaters, Kathakali and tourism slogans.

But our history is much deeper than that.

We forget:

- **Kerala was part of ancient global trade.**
Long before modern India, Kerala was connected to Rome, Arabia, Persia, Africa, China and Southeast Asia through sea trade.

- **Pepper made Kerala famous across the world.**
Malabar pepper was one of the most valuable items in ancient trade. Pepper from Kerala was also found inside Egyptian Pharos tombs. Foreigners came here because Kerala had something the world wanted.

- **Muziris was one of the greatest ancient ports.**
The Kodungallur/Muziris region was not just a local port. It was an international trade centre thousands of years ago.

- **Kerala had links with the Roman Empire.**
Roman coins and old trade records show that Kerala was connected to the Mediterranean world much earlier than many people realise.

- **The Cheras were an important ancient power.**
Early Kerala was part of the Chera world, along with the wider Tamilakam region. Our history is deeply connected to ancient South Indian civilisation.

- **Kollam was once a major world port.**
Quilon/Kollam had strong trade links with West Asia and China. It was not just a small coastal town in history.

- **Kerala received religions mainly through trade.**
Christianity, Judaism and Islam reached Kerala mostly through sea routes and merchant communities, not mainly through conquest. Islam came to Kerala before it reached Northern parts of India, and it was through Kerala, it spread across Malaysia, Indonesia and the rest of South East Asia!

- Kerala had one of the oldest Christian communities in Asia.
The St Thomas Christian tradition is a major part of Kerala’s identity and history.

- Kerala had a historic Jewish community.
The Cochin Jews are an important but less discussed part of our past.

- Kerala’s Muslim history is also very old.
The Mappila Muslim community of Malabar grew through centuries of Arab trade, local culture and maritime links.

- Kerala had powerful merchant guilds.
Groups like Anjuvannam and Manigramam show that trade and business communities had major importance here.

- Kerala preserved ancient art forms.
Koodiyattam, Theyyam, Padayani, Mudiyettu, Kathakali and temple percussion are not just “performances”. They are living history.

- Koodiyattam is one of the oldest surviving theatre traditions in the world.
This is something we should be much more proud of.

- Theyyam carries Kerala’s local memory.
It tells stories of gods, heroes, caste resistance, local legends and community identity.

- Kerala had a strong martial arts tradition.
Kalaripayattu and old warrior traditions show that Kerala was not only a land of trade and temples, but also of military skill.

- Kerala defeated a European power too.
Travancore defeating the Dutch at Colachel is a major historical moment, but many Indians outside Kerala barely know about it.

- European colonial history in India strongly begins with Kerala.
Vasco da Gama came to Calicut because of Kerala’s spice wealth. Malabar was central to Europe’s search for sea routes to India.

- Kerala had early anti-colonial resistance.
Pazhassi Raja, Velu Thampi Dalawa and the Attingal revolt deserve more attention in Indian history discussions.

- Kerala’s greatness is also in its reform movements.
Sree Narayana Guru, Ayyankali, Chattampi Swamikal, Sahodaran Ayyappan, Vaikom Satyagraha and temple entry movements changed our society.

- Kerala’s literacy and political awareness did not come by luck.
It came through social reform, education, missionary work, community organisations, public debate and people’s struggles.

- Kerala contributed to mathematics and astronomy.
The Kerala School of Mathematics, including Madhava of Sangamagrama, is something we rarely celebrate enough.

- Kerala’s economy was never just farming.
We had spices, ports, coir, coconut, timber, ship trade, plantation economy and overseas migration patterns.

- Kerala’s global mindset is not new.
Malayalis going abroad is not just a Gulf-era thing. Our coastal history has always been connected to the outside world.

My point is simple:

Our culture is much bigger than food, festivals and tourist photos.

We should celebrate our history more seriously, but without fake pride or blind nationalism.

We should also honestly remember the caste issues, social struggles and reform movements that made modern Kerala possible.

Our land Kerala is a small strip of land, but historically it was one of the most important cultural and trade corridors in the Indian Ocean.

Why don’t we talk about this more?

New Model Y coming: Is DIY clear PPF worth the hassle, or should I just skip it?

Hi everyone,

Taking delivery of a new Model Y RWD standard soon and trying to figure out paint protection. I’m not looking to change the color, just want to shield it from the usual UK road grit, minor scratches, and dust.

Professional full PPF quotes are a bit too steep for my budget right now, so it’s down to this: Do I attempt a DIY pre-cut clear PPF kit, or do I just leave it bare and not worry about it?

I've got a clean garage to work in, but I've heard the Model Y curves (especially the front bumper) can be an absolute nightmare for a first-timer working with wet-apply PPF.

- Has anyone here actually done a full or partial DIY clear wrap on their Y?

- Did you buy a UK kit or import one from the US?

- Or am I overthinking this, and the standard Tesla paint holds up fine on its own?

Would love to hear your experiences before I drop cash on a kit. Thanks!

As a techie, the "IT services" defense in the CMRL-Exalogic case makes zero logical sense. Here is why.

Look, I want to keep political biases completely out of this. Whether you support the Left, the Right, or neither, just looking at the sheer operational mechanics of the CMRL-Exalogic case makes it incredibly obvious what is going on.

Here are the basic facts that have been established:

The Raid: The Income Tax department raided CMRL (a mining company) and found records showing they regularly paid off politicians across multiple parties, police, and media to keep their operations running smoothly.

The "IT Contract": During this, they found massive payments (over ₹2.73 crore) made to Exalogic Solutions, an IT firm owned by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter, T. Veena.

The Missing Work: CMRL employees themselves stated they had never heard of Exalogic, and investigators found absolutely zero evidence of any software, marketing, or IT services ever being delivered.

Speaking as someone who works in the tech industry and understands how corporate software contracts operate, the "IT services" defense is the weakest link here.

In the real world, enterprise B2B (business-to-business) software deals leave an undeniable, massive digital footprint. If a company is paying crores of rupees for IT services over several years, there will always be:

1 Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and signed-off project milestones.
2 Code repositories (like GitHub/GitLab logs) or technical architecture blueprints.
3 Deployment logs, server configurations, or project management boards (Jira, Trello, etc.).
4 Endless email threads and communication history between the vendor's developers and the client's internal IT team.

The idea that an IT company could provide high-level, multi-crore services without leaving a single shred of digital or physical evidence- and without the client's own corporate staff even knowing they existed, is technically and operationally impossible.

When you combine that with the obvious conflict of interest (a heavily regulated mining company that relies entirely on state government clearances paying massive sums to the sitting CM’s daughter), common sense tells every single Malayali exactly what this is. It is a monthly retainer (masappadi) disguised as a corporate business expense.

We all know the common-sense truth here. But my question to this sub is: considering how neatly these companies used "legal" B2B contracts to move the money, do you think investigators will actually be able to prove bribery and money laundering in a court of law? Or will they successfully hide behind corporate technicalities because we can't physically "prove" it yet?
