Yap: Started watching anime again after a very long time
Hey everyone, new to this sub but we need a flair for yapping I think 🤭
I grew up watching Baby Baa Chan, Captain Tsubasa, Detective School Q etc on Animax. The last animated series I watched was Bakugan Battle Brawlers and then I didn’t want any anime/cartoons till I joined college and pirated some classics like Samurai Jack and Ed Edd n Eddy. A friend introduced me to Death Note and I watched a couple of more series popular at the time like One Punch Man, Gintama, and Tokyo Ghoul. Then that interest died out until last week when the anime bug bit me again and I’ve watched Solo Leveling, Mashle and Dan Da Dan so far.
And my god, the level of animation has skyrocketed since Animax (2004) to my college days (2014) to present day. Literally every decade, the art form has seen some insane transformation.
After watching a few series again I can understand why no live action remake can ever match the spirit of an original anime. The art form, storytelling style, the voice acting, level of visual detail, is all radically different that live action will always pale in comparison. But the other way round will always be amazing when done right. Just imagine a Chak De India or a Dhurandhar in anime form, it’ll absolutely slap.
Anyway, this ramble of a post is to just say that watching anime again has made me very happy (I’ve been sad otherwise lately) and I’m open to any recommendations beyond the extremely popular ones like One Piece, Bleach etc. I enjoy all genres but I particularly like comedy, shonen action, power fantasy, thriller, a little bit more.
