My youngest (8) is unbearably loud - what can I do?

I have two children, 10 and 8, who are both very intelligent and have always been verbal. However, the youngest has become so loud in the house, in the car, and out in public that it has become a regular cause for correction between my spouse and me.

This is not just the happy sounds of playing, it is inappropriately high volume yell-talking, slamming doors and pounding up and down stairs or running throughout the house at all times. We have tried our best to politely but firmly say that if they want to run around they can do it in the playroom in the basement and that they cannot just scream to make themselves heard.

It will get better for a moment and then just return to how it was. In addition to it being generally poor etiquette in most public settings, it is fraying our nerves as parents. We have the added complication of one (very) senior dog that somehow hears practically nothing anymore BUT can always hear the pounding of 8yo feet and gets anxious, paces the room, and cannot settle down as a result.

What can we do to address this behavior without crushing their spirit? Other parents are beginning to notice that the 8yo will loudly interrupt adult conversations or shout down other children. It has not yet been raised as a concern by their teachers but I am concerned that is coming soon with the return to school.

Help!

How has it come to this?

Where I work, half the people will email you and expect an immediate answer while the other half will simply ignore their email for weeks.

The absolute worst is the person who emails at 4:56p Friday and then emails you at 8:57am Monday saying “just checking on this.”

After a Decade, I Gave Up Google For Good

More than ten years ago, I ran out to buy the Pixel 1. I was an early adopter of the first Google Home and bought in completely to their smart home lineup. Every phone, watch, and tablet since has been Google branded. And I called
It quits this weekend.

I’m so disappointed. Nothing works like it’s supposed to anymore, the smart home products are useless. Even with a Gemini Pro account, my many, many devices just say “I don’t understand.” I can’t even reliably stream music or a podcast anymore.

The last straw was my 18 month old Google Pixel 9 Pro’s screen broke for the third time and now out of warranty. I’m just done.

It is going to be an adjustment but I’m going Apple 17 for my new phone and trying to decide on the best watch product. May try Apple
TV as an alternative to all our Chromecast (which doesn’t let you cast half the media we have).

Not sure where to go for a good smart home alternative but my wife wants Alexa. I’ve hyped Google for so long and now it feels like I’m the sucker.

Sometimes to just have to be willing to walk away.

First Prius...dat MPG though.

Picked up a '21 Prius Prime to support my obscenely long commute...with a fully charged battery, average 70+ mpg over my 37.5 mile (one way) drive.

Getting stiffed on Pixel 9 service

Two weeks ago, I submitted a service claim on my Google Pixel 9 Pro (see attached image) for a malfunctioning screen. This happened 6 months before and Google warrantied the repair, now I'm stuck in 14 day long email exchange with an AI bot (or a truly incompetent agent) that has promised me numerous times that my claim is with a "higher service team" over 21 separate emails (see latest attached).

What is happening?! Has this happened to anyone else?

I've been a loyal Pixel owner since the 1 but this has shaken my confidence and, more so, I've been without the use of my new(ish) device for 2 weeks now. They haven't even asked me to send it in for assessment.

What do I need to say to move this claim forward?
