What sort of Quality of Life features would you like to see in a Picross game?

I ask because scrolling a bit I noticed a few people are developing their own, and maybe this will help them out a bit as something to keep in mind or implement?

I'd personally like to see:

- Either a second color of X or a ? to mark squares you are unsure of. Like if you have to use edge logic, and you aren't sure which way the number will fall yet, you can mark those squares that might be filled later as a "Maybe"

- Small Fill that fills squares like 🔳, and then when you're ready to commit, hit OK to fill them like ⬛️

- For colored puzzles, colored Xs that go in the corners of the cell, or if there's 5 or 6 colors, then where dice pips would go.

- Ruler tool that lets you tap two points or drag a line to quickly count how many squares. (Probably handy for larger puzzles)

- Button to temporarily hide the grid and numbers. I know they tend to have a thumbnail of the filled squares as you fill them in. This is basically a larger version of that.

That's really all I can think of that could possibly be handy that isn't already in most modern Picross titles.

Change the color of the Explosive Crates level object (The Purple and Red ones, specifically) for ease of Colorblind players like myself.

Didn't know it was an issue until I ran into a level that used these as a puzzle element, all 4 colors at once, and I realized there were *two* blues (though it's apparently meant to be purple) and I screwed up and died because the red and green crates looked near identical to me and they weren't connected like I thought they were.

Looking at the image, and the game I still have open as I type, I can see the checkerboard pattern in the Blue/Purple. I can't see *any* pattern in the Red/Green, and I placed the dang blocks! (I think I screwed up the checkerboard even. Oh well. Kinda helps my point)

The proposed color alterations simply tweak one of the existing colors already in the sprites for the Crates. Purple gets that lighter magenta-ish purple for its shading color to make it more obviously purple rather than what may appear to some (like me) as a lighter blue, and to contrast better against the darker blue, and the Red ones get changed to more of a pinkish red, as the cooler pink tones contrast better with the lime green's warmer tones compared to the warm orange tones of the current red. Blue and Green are fine as they are.

Dithering Color Chart Thing (for Mario Paint)[Because I got bored]

All 15 colors paintable in Mario Paint, dithered into a checkerboard pattern for your refrence if you want to push a bit more percieved color out of the otherwise limited pallete.

The Blending Chart is a rough appoximation of how the colors may look on an actual CRT display, or small modern display, or maybe if you just squint your eyes a bit.

For most of these, you'll need to make the pattern yourself in the Stamp Editor, but these charts should give you a good idea of what the dithered color combo will look like before you commit to that tedious process.

I always wondered why there weren't 16 colors in these 16-bit art app games, but I guess Transparent takes up one of the color slots.

[PC][Mid to Late 90's] Super Mario Kart styled racing game starring a cast of animals, including a Shark and I think a Moose.

Unsure what format we got the game on (I'd bet either Floppy Disc or Shareware CD,) but I know we played it on a Windows 98 PC with one of those joysticks you'd plug into one of the large accessory ports on the back of the PC. The soundtrack was very likley MIDI files, but I really only remember the theme from the main menu and the fact my brother played as the Shark. Unsure if the game had multiplayer since we only had the one joystick.

The [Intentional Game Design] should apply to Straw Beds, but in non-explosive ways.

The latest Snapshot gives us Cushions and the Straw Bed to play with.

Straw Beds when used in the Nether or End simply break away when you try to use them rather than explode. Given how cheap they are to craft and the fact they're stackable, it's understandable they don't explode... but that's boring that they just break as though you used them.

I propose that there should be some form of [Intentonal Game Design] for Straw Beds as well, albiet less destructive that Bed Explosions.

For the Nether, using a Straw Bed should replaced the bed with fire that ignites the 2 blocks it was laying on, and maybe a surrounding block or two.

For the End, trying to use a Straw Bed should have it teleport randomly up 16 blocks away from where it was, and if there is no valid spot to teleport to, then it just breaks.

Assorted Suggestions Again! Horray!

#On/Off Stuff

Because toggling stuff can be fun and useful!

- On/Off Buttons: Not to be confused with the exosting On/Off Switches. Functions similar to Astro Buttons, but they force their set On/Off state as long as it is pressed down. Allows for objects like Boxes and Plushies to interact with On/Off Objects. Can also be used to ensure the player is in a specific spot for toggling of states

- Conveyor Belts: Could be handy for activating more complex contraptions, or simply moving obstacles out of (or in) the way.

- Plantforms: Alternativley, On/Off Jumpthrough Platforms, since they'd basically do the same thing.

#Plushies

Because the cute cuddly toys have surprising utility sometimes!

- Sniper Joe: Can face left or right. Dinks shots if shot from the front. Moves like any other plushie when shot from behind. Sheild Attacker could also do this, but Joe is more iconic

- Metal Man: Remember using Metal Man to change conveyor directions? Remember Alternating Timing Conveyors? Well now you can switch conveyor directions yourself by shooting this plushie! Is destroyed by Metal Blade.

- Unsure which enemy or Robot Master, but a Plushie that ignores gravity

#And one more because that's all I got.

Fallthrough Platforms. The opposite of Jumpthrough Platforms. That's it. I'm sure that has niche uses.

Anyone know of a subreddit for Action/Arcade Puzzle Games, specifically?

I dunno what else to call the genre besides Action/Arcade Puzzle Games. They often have a competitive 2-player mode. I'm talking about games like:

- Tetris (Definitley has a sub)

- Puyo Puyo (I know it also has its own sub)

- Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move

- Super Puzzle Fighter

- Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon

- Pyramid (NES)

- Yoshi's Cookie

- Columns

- Lumines

- Dr. Mario

- Magical Drop

- Monster Slider

- Soldam

- Block Out

- Wario's Woods

- Hello Kitty's Cube Frenzy

You know, that sort of game.

I'm looking for a more *generalized* subreddit for this style of games as a whole rather than a series of subs for each induvidual game/series.

What *is* a primary color anyway? (Regarding Pigments, mostly)

Yeah, yeah, Red Blue Green as the primary colors of light, and Cyan Magenta Yellow as the primary colors of pigment...

But then there's Red Yellow Blue (also for Pigment) and I've been on record calling RYB primaries "Not wrong, but outdated" when it turns out that's not really as true as I thought.

"Could I make something as deep and rich as Ultramarine Blue with just CMY?" is what sparked this ramble in my head...And I just don't think it's possible. Yeah you can get a pretty good Blue, but nothing quite so bold and well, BLUE! Adding Black or White will lessen the saturation and/or value of the color

Speaking of white, that's another one I wonder about. Light? Combine Red Green Blue, easy. Pigment? You can't mix *anything* to get White, since mixing stuff typically darkens and gets it closer towards Black. So is White a primary pigment?

So I guess my question is, if there is no other way to mix the color from the main primary colors, does that *also* make it a primary color? And if so, what sorts of colors fall into this where you just cannot mix other colors to match it? I'd bet Ultramarine Blue is one of them, hence why it's still so often used in painting as one of the pallete's primaries. Maybe Alizarin Crimson too for the Red.

Mine is the same as it was like a month and a half ago, but I moved the grayscale to its own bar and added more grays. Genuinley don't know what else I can add to the conversation other than adding grays. I also added Mib. Say hi to Mib. He's that face with angles for hands.

Mods, you're probably going to need to pin that Color Perception Megathread again. I dunno where it went.

Because how else is it going to be represented in the series?

So it's like how in Smash 4, how Master Hand had multiple phases in higher difficulties, but rather than shadow bug constructs and then a mirror match and the whatever the Master Fortress was supposed to be, we have this dumb idea:

Crazy Hand putting the Power Glove on Master Hand.

In this form, You fight just Master Hand, who does get *some* new moves on top of his regular kit

- Shooting projectiles from the IR sensor, like bouncing balls, laser beams, wave blade, or whatever.

- Making an IR ring appear. If you're in it for too long, he grabs and throws you without actually touching you

But otherwise he's just a bit stronger and takes less damage due to the glove giving him armor.

But more importaintly, Crazy Hand will occasionally come from the background to mess with you, or come in and press the buttons (as it's not like he can do it himself) on the glove to give Master Hand unique attacks or ways to mess with the fight, like:

- Pressing the D-Pad to scroll the screen and blast zone over for a bit before pressing the Center button to reset to normal

- Entering in a cheat code to heal some damage if not swatted away

- Pressing Program and then a number to give Master a different projectile from the IR sensor.

- Press 5 for slow mo, slowing you down for a brief period (as the button is so tiny Craxy can't comfortably keep it held down)

- Frantically using the controller buttons to try and control an enemy ROB to slow you down if you manange to stun Master.

- "Pausing" the game (including the UI) so he can punch in a code to change up what he's about to fire before unpausing. The projectile charging graphics change so you can tell what's about to come out anyway, and he telegraphs when he's about to unpause.

Stuff like that.
