Clients literally cannot tell we are human anymore

just spent 16 connects on a job that got over 50 proposals in literally under two minutes. there is simply no way those are real people typing out tailored cover letters

was talking to a client yesterday who told me her entire inbox is just generic chatgpt slop now. she gets so overwhelmed she just abandons the job post entirely. Its exhausting trying to compete with automated bot farms when connects keep getting more expensive

at this rate freelance platforms are going to have to force actual hardware verification just to let us submit a bid. i was reading about how the world project uses that physical Orb setup to verify personhood and honestly? just bring it to upwork. i'll gladly verify my biology if it gives me a "verified human" badge and stops my proposals from getting instantly buried under 80 python scripts

kinda wild that simply having a pulse is becoming a competitive advantage but here we are.

why does the makeup industry think "translucent" means yellow???

Im so incredibly tired of spending $40 on luxury powders that claim to be completely clear, only to step in natural lighting and realize my face is suddenly three shades darker than my neck.

the beauty industry really loves to gaslight the pale club into thinking we just don't know how to blend properly. but no, your hyped up formula just oxidizes into pure orange the second it touches my skin. I was looking at flash photos from a club we went to last weekend and I literally look like I'm wearing a peanut butter mask while my chest is paper white. its so embarrassing

I threw my expensive sephora powder straight in the trash the next morning. Im officially done with western brands charging a premium for colored dust that ruins my base. I just dug out a basic club translucent pressed powder from my travel bag and have been using that instead because im too annoyed to shop for anything else. at least it actually stays invisible and doesnt turn me into a carrot by noon.

is it really that hard for these massive cosmetic companies with millions in r&d to just manufacture something with absolutely zero pigment?

Do you keep improving one email or start over completely?

When something isn’t working, I’m never sure whether to keep tweaking it or just scrap it and start from zero. Sometimes small changes help, but other times it feels like I’m polishing something that’s fundamentally weak. Wondering how you guys approach this. Do you iterate heavily or just rebuild once it’s not working?

Is my furnace done? Short cycling issues in Idaho

My furnace is acting up again and it's getting old. It keeps short cycling and won't stay at a steady temp, even though I already swapped out the thermostat and the flame sensor. The unit is 15+ years old now, and i'm starting to feel like i'm just throwing good money after bad with these constant small repairs.

I'm in the Rigby ID area and really want to find a good HVAC crew to give me a straight answer on whether this thing is toast or if the heat exchanger is actually shot. i'd rather do a full high-efficiency install now than have it die on me during a blizzard in january.

Has anyone around here gotten a new system lately? looking for a local company that gives honest quotes without all the hidden "surprise" fees.

I just bought an old Samsung Galaxy tablet from Facebook Marketplace mostly to mess around with it, and now I’m wondering how much you can actually upgrade or improve these older devices.

On Android phones I know people install custom ROMs and lightweight versions of Android, but can you do the same thing on old tablets too? Or are tablets way more limited?

Right now it feels pretty slow on the stock software, but the screen is still decent so I’d love to turn it into something useful instead of e waste.

For people who still use older Android tablets, what are the best things to do with them? And is installing custom ROMs actually worth it nowadays or more trouble than it’s worth?

my exec just decided yesterday that he absolutely must fly out on tuesday for the tech panel with the ASML and Google cloud guys. literally staring at my screen right now trying to figure out how to bend time to make this work

Im trying to map out his afternoon at the Milken Conference but he wants to grab an "intimate coffee" with two different VP's right after that session ends around 3:30

have any of you survived managing the Beverly Hilton during this specific event? he expects to just "walk somewhere quiet" near the hotel for a meeting. in LA. during one of the biggest billionaire summits of the year. im laughing so I dont cry

if anyone knows a semi-private spot or a decent lounge within a 10 min walk that wont be completely overrun by hedge fund guys, pls save my life. i cannot deal with him texting me about the noise levels again while im three time zones away trying to fix it.

one thing Breaking Bad did incredibly well that a lot of shows still struggle with

One thing I always notice when rewatching Breaking Bad is how good the pacing is

The show was never in a rush, but it also rarely felt like it was wasting time. Even slower scenes usually added tension, developed characters, or quietly set up something important later

A lot of series try to shock viewers constantly, but Breaking Bad was really good at building pressure slowly and letting moments breathe. That’s probably why the intense scenes hit so much harder when they finally happen

It also helped that most character decisions felt believable, even when they were frustrating or terrible choices

That balance between tension, character writing, and pacing is a big reason the show still holds up so well

I enjoy the process but I'm starting to wonder if I have a ceiling here. I know "it takes time" is the answer but I'm curious what that actually looked like for people. First piece you genuinely liked, not just tolerated - how long did it take?

Also is there one specific thing that clicked for you that made it start to feel more controlled? Because right now it still feels like the clay is fully in charge and I'm just there supervising.

Just moved out of a rental in NSW and the landlord is saying they want to keep part of the bond for additional cleaning.

We cleaned the place pretty thoroughly (vacuumed, wiped surfaces, etc.) and it looked similar to when we moved in, minus normal wear.

They haven’t provided an itemised invoice yet, just a general comment about it not being up to standard.

Do they need to show actual receipts/quotes for cleaning, or can they just claim a portion of the bond?

Trying to figure out if it’s worth disputing through the bond authority.

Im in the middle of securing a business loan for my small company in Brisbane and the bank has sent over the finance agreement. Its full of terms around interest rates, security over assets, personal guarantees and default clauses that Im not entirely comfortable with as a first time borrower.

Has anyone here dealt with similar commercial loan documents in QLD? Was independent legal advice worth it or did you just sign after reading it yourself? Any common pitfalls I should be watching for in these agreements? Appreciate any thoughts.

Ive got a bunch of old metal stuff piling up in my garage in the east end, old fridge, some rusted fence panels, leftover steel from a deck project, and a few car parts. Its taking up space and i need it gone before the next big cleanup.

Looking for someone who does free scrap metal pickup around hamilton. Anyone know a reliable guy or service that comes by for free and hauls it away?

I feel like most people just treat aging as inevitable and don’t really question it

but clearly some of you here see it differently

was there a specific moment, article, or idea that made it “click” for you that this might actually be solvable?

or was it more gradual over time

I’m still kind of on the fence and trying to understand how people move from “this is just life” to “this is a problem we can fix”

Taking my first ceramics class next month and I get to choose the focus. Wheel throwing looks more satisfying on video but I've heard hand building gives you better fundamentals for understanding clay as a material

Is there actually a right answer here or is it just personal preference? Would learning one first make the other easier down the road?

I run a small online store selling niche home goods. A couple of months ago I finally pulled the trigger and hired Fyresite to completely redesign the site. They did a great job on the visuals and made everything feel much more modern and premium.

The new design looks clean, loads fast, and the mobile experience is way better than before. But my conversion rate hasn’t really moved. It’s basically the same as it was with the old clunky site.

I’m wondering what actually makes the biggest difference after a redesign. Is it usually the product page layout, the checkout flow, trust signals, or something else?

Anyone else gone through a full redesign and then had to keep tweaking to actually see sales improve? What changes gave you the best lift once the new design was live?

Most interview prep focuses on common questions, but sometimes you get something completely unexpected that throws you off.

What’s the most surprising question you’ve been asked in an interview, and how did you respond?
