Executive Office Role at GS

Hey everyone,

I currently got a call for an interview at Executive Office role and wanted to understand the team a bit better from people who’ve worked there or interacted with them.

A few things I’m curious about:

  • What does the day-to-day work actually look like?
  • Is the role more finance/investing focused or more strategy/operating-model driven?
  • How is the exposure to senior leadership?
  • What kind of exits or internal mobility opportunities does the team usually lead to?
  • And broadly, how is the learning curve/culture?

Would really appreciate any insights, especially from people who interned/full-timed in the team. Thanks!

Cleared all rounds now they’re lowballing me after quoting higher comp

Hey everyone,

I recently got selected for a strategy-based role at a global investment bank. During the interview process, the person coordinating and staying in touch with me throughout asked about my expected compensation. I asked them about the budget instead, and they mentioned it was around 13 LPA.

Now that I’ve cleared all the rounds, I got a call from someone from the compensation team saying that “HR doesn’t know much about compensation and I’m being superficial about my expectations” and asked me to forget the earlier number. They said the max they can offer is 11.5 LPA.

The thing is, I’m also expecting another offer for a more reporting-focused role which would likely pay around 13–14 LPA. But honestly, I really want the strategy role.

This is my first switch since my previous role was through campus placements, so I don’t have much experience negotiating compensation. How do I counter this professionally and push for 13–14 LPA without sounding unreasonable or risking the offer?

Would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve dealt with similar situations. Thanks!

Online Interview Spot at Nirlon Knowledge Park?

Hey everyone, I have an online interview tomorrow at Nirlon Knowledge Park and another in person interview scheduled immediately after.

Was wondering if there’s any quiet spot/café/common area inside Nirlon Knowledge Park where I could sit and attend the online interview for around 30–45 mins with decent network/connectivity.

Would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I’m interviewing at a global bank in Mumbai, but I’m currently based in another city. I’m trying to understand if what’s happening is standard practice in banking or if I should be concerned about how this process is being handled.

I’ve completed 2 rounds of interviews and both went well. The interviewer even said “hope to see you soon” at the end of the second round. Now they’re asking me to come to Mumbai for a 3rd round interview, which would cost me around ₹12k out of pocket for flights and stay. The thing is, I was never informed upfront that this role would require travel for interviews and they haven’t offered to reimburse any travel expenses.

What’s really making me hesitate is how this is being handled. The process is being managed by a third-party outsourced recruiter, not the bank’s direct HR team. During our conversations, this recruiter keeps trash-talking the bank, which feels extremely unprofessional and is making me question what I’m walking into. She told me not to inform bank HR that an in-person round was never disclosed upfront during recruitment process (saying I “should have known”), claimed my CV only passed because I was a referral and she doesn’t understand why they considered my “different background” when she had “better referrals from better firms with relevant experience,” stated that “half her time wasted” on my profile due to lot of back and forth, mentioned if I was comfortable with 6-month WFH/WFO setup initially then later told me not to bring it up with bank HR as it depends on team to team (why did she even ask in the first place)

When I asked about the travel requirement, bank’s HR told me “it’s industry norm for private banking roles to conduct in person final rounds and it’s like some kind of common knowledge or I had missed in during the whole process”. The confusing part is that the actual team I’d be working with is US based, so I’m unclear why a Mumbai face-to-face interview is mandatory, especially since the role itself is back office regulatory reporting and not client-facing.

For back-office and non-client-facing roles in private banking, is face-to-face really standard practice when the actual team I’d work with is remote anyway? More importantly, should I escalate third party recruiter’s behavior to the bank’s direct HR, or would that look unprofessional and hurt my chances?
