Seems like a typical weekend.
Hate processing this time of year but the pastures looking a little rough for the number of mouths. Fatty sausage sow. Ill have some extra for the fall.

Something I've been meaning to get around too... and ive been thinking i may fire up my little ghetto forge this winter, so having this guy wil Definitely make the process more satisfying. Might get a small press together also for setting some welds, but we will see... all in all, i learned that the hf belt sanders dont do much in the way of material removal on hardened materials, and as much as I love had filing.... kinda limits what im willing to take on lol
What's your favorite method? Ill be using pellet grill, previously have braised in Dutch oven... but we gonna see what happens....
Got impatient boring this plate for a 56c motor, ended up taking plasma to open up and finish with boring head. I freehanded with an underpowered noname torch. Dont like having put that heat to it tho. First few passes were exciting. Looking back i should have just free hand milled and followed with boring head... but she got done. And seemed to mount up nice enough. Now ill get a few things tacked on and get a stand built. Belt grinder thing.
Did a little pondering today, and I just gotta put some effort behind my meaning when I say I love barbecue, there's a lot of feeling behind those words and while I love the idea of the party, the gathering, the socializing and all the other things that come to mind... when I think of firing up the grill its precedented alot of the time (lately especially) by a walk out to the pasture and a pot of waters thermometer telling the time.... today was a day for goat as im needing to reduce herd size. I went, took a beer and sat with them for a while, the does are always excited when they see a can in hand and its almost fitting in a way as an offering or apology as ive really come for one of their sons. After selecting dinner, and taking care to stun and dispatch as smoothly as possible, theres always a moment of sadness, solemn gratitude before preparation begins. It does take a toll, even when I do open a package of meat from the freezer I still feel that moment of loss and gratitude, its always surpassed by the smiles and joy as the meal proceeds. Find joy and happiness in your efforts my friends and gratitude in the ability to perform them.
Just prepping. More to come.
So im a little rusty and want to confer with those smarter than myself, i apologize in advance if this doesnt make sense, but im wanting to transpose a curved surface(oval diesel tank on its side 44x27 oval profile) for it to be saddled by the barrel(s). The flat on the tank is ~17 inches, 13.5 radii to overall 44" width, am I thinking of this right for when I goto soap on a rope this/sketch saddle on my actual barrel? Then repeat to find intersect of tdc and flat/radii intersection on other 3 places for full saddle?
This was from a while back... im sure alot of folks found themselves getting into some new stuff early 2020s... HF pressure tank id found, lined inside with kaowool, ridgidized. Threw some burners together from pipe and think its .026 tip for jet, might have been .030. (Will post burners separate cuz i found a video.) Also I initially had a firebrick base that lasted all of a week maybe, ended up casting a base from tabcast 94 to hold up to flux, as well as made a niconel tray i can set in there for heavy fluxing....Thinking I may be resurrecting this fall and spending some time with it again.
Im just a maintenance guy... actually now im just a keyboard jockey controls guy at work...but leading up to that i would go on 8 week long night shift rotations, used to pass the time brushing back up on my dabbling cuz Definitely use or lose for me. Eventually here i need to get a nicer rig at home so I can get some stuff done... but just 11ga stainless, the goal was to just not move it to practice position.
Still in the cleaning/stripping phase, still in the design phase. It's a bit thin but im doing it on the cheap cuz im outgrowing my pellet smoker for some things. Because its thin im thinking firebox(s) below with some fairly heavy heat diffusers, probably carbon steel walking/welded bar grate racks, angle iron support structure, 2 rackpairs one low one high, 50% slide out, maybe a baffle/box for exhaust.... think i need to soldiworks for a few minutes lol. Also planning on lining fireboxes, probably ridgidize some fiber and a row of bricks but Will probably add slide out wood rack or something. Hmmmmmmm.....?
Don't worry not using plasma to start this. It is a joke.
Sorry I was impressed with this... granted 100$ for a boring head set. But definitely gonna have to hit these on a lapidary.
