LTO’s: Given the current lack of LTO’s available in YRDSB and TDSB, if you were offered one, would you be picky or just accept whatever was available if offered? I’m thinking of applying to a 2 month long LTO at 100%.

On my ROE, YRDSB put my expected date of recall as September 2 2026. I don’t have any LTO’s lined up, I’m on OT. Anyone know if this will cause a problem? Ugh I’m stressed. I’ve been applying to so many jobs, not a single one has called back for this summer. I cannot survive without EI.

Can anyone offer what type of experience you had hosting a TC in your class? Was it a lot of extra work?

Question: I’m an elementary teacher who is hoping to secondary. I know many courses, didn’t have exams before. What were teachers with no exams doing during exam week? Were they just working on other stuff at school? I wonder if this is why the board is also mandating exams for all classes?

I lost my access code and I called EI and they said that I have to apply and then they’re gonna send me a code manually through mail. I can’t apply for my reporting until I get that code and I’m really stressed out because I don’t know how long it’s gonna take for that code to come in. Has anyone been in the same situation before? Are they gonna let me retroactively claim if the code comes in late? I wanna make sure that I can claim for the full eight weeks, but I don’t know if I will be able to because of this.

Do you put your absence in the night before or the morning of? I’m always so scared of it looking like a fake sick day if I put it the evening before. On the other hand, I feel like it looks worse on the teacher if no OT picks it up so now the school scrambling to find coverage.

LTO’s: What happens if you have only a portion of a family sick day left but need the whole day off? Do you just get unpaid for that portion, or are you not allowed to take it off? I have 0.8 of a day left. Thanks!

I currently teach grade 7 and it is always so shocking to me how some teachers give it 100% of their effort, while others give 10% and they both get paid the same. I switched schools this year and there are about three teachers in my current school who teach intermediate who genuinely don’t do anything. For subjects like social science, geography, history, etc. the kids are literally given worksheets to read and teach themselves. The teacher does no formal teaching for these subjects. For math, they have scrapped half the curriculum and do a lot of independent learning meaning the students basically teach themselves using websites that the teachers provide. I really had this year to reflect and it makes me wonder am I overdoing it as a teacher or am I actually doing my job and these people are not doing it? Like I just don’t understand how they get away with it. If my child was teaching themselves while the teacher just sat there and babysat, I would be furious. How was it like in other schools?
