I will never get over how beautifully shot this transition was, only for the writers to completely drop the ball on what his heritage actually meant for the realm.

In contrast, Aunt May’s death illustrates the burden of selflessness, marking Peter’s evolution into a true hero who prioritizes the greater good above his own happiness. In stories like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man, May dies not because of Peter's negligence, but because he actively chooses the difficult, compassionate path of saving others and rehabilitating dangerous villains rather than taking the easy way out.
