Earning by Hating Someone?

I came across this post by chance, and honestly, it feels like the author is trying too hard to blame shit on Samay Raina and India’s Got Latent.

Comedy is subjective. Some people like Sunil Pal, some like Harsh Gujral, some like Samay, and some don't. That's completely fine. If you love Samay, write about why you like his humour. If you hate him, you can say he's overrated, cringe, vulgar, whatever. But make it clear that it's your opinion. Saying "I think Samay's comedy is vulgar" is different from presenting it like an objective fact.

What I don't understand is why people constantly have to put one comedian down to praise another. Every other post becomes "Madhur >>> Samay", "Manik >>> Samay", "Sunil >>> Samay", etc. You can appreciate Madhur or Manik without making everything a comparison with Samay. And honestly, sometimes it feels like people aren't even praising these comedians because they genuinely like them; they're just using them as a way to shit on Samay.

I'm probably biased here, but the Manik comparison especially doesn't make much sense to me. Samay hasn't even been putting out much stand-up recently, so comparing their current work isn't exactly fair. And I'm not saying Manik isn't good — maybe he is. I'm just questioning why everything has to become "X is better than Samay."

You can dislike Samay. You can dislike IGL. That's completely okay. But why bring someone down just to make someone else look better?

And at this point, it feels like everyone has milked the Samay/IGL controversy — media, YouTubers, influencers, brands, celebrities, politicians, pretty much everyone. Whether the attention was positive or negative, there was always something to gain from it.

Now it feels like the same thing is continuing.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the hate sometimes feels more forced than genuine.

Please read the whole thing before commenting. These are my thoughts and I've written the whole thing myself — ChatGPT only helped me polish the grammar and wording.

Something else

Kapil Sharma might have faced similar things when he was doing comedy and working on different shows.

Someday, when Samay gets older and a younger comedian takes his place, new comics might see people posting the same kind of messages about him. People need to understand that building a legacy takes time. You can’t expect someone to become a legend overnight.

It’s 100% confirmed according to the Netflix deal.

Here’s how it works:

• Samay can choose a maximum of 2 panels, while Netflix gets to choose 2 panels.

• For Netflix + YouTube episodes, the editing is handled jointly by Samay’s team and Netflix.

• For Netflix-exclusive episodes, the editing is handled by Netflix.

• For Members-only episodes, Samay and his team handle the editing themselves.

Now connect the dots.

Once you understand who controls the panel selection and who handles the editing for each type of episode, the whole picture becomes pretty obvious.

Connect the dots. You’ll get the fact.

Agree and disagree

Bro, I agree with the point about Orry. Honestly, Samay probably shouldn’t have invited Orry or Saurav Joshi. He could have brought in some other guests instead.

That said, I don’t think all Bollywood celebrities are cringe. Raghav was genuinely funny, and Sharvari was also pretty entertaining. Among the singers, Karan Aujla was funny, while Badshah was more of an “okay-okay” for me.

One more thing I’ve noticed is that Samay has invited numerous comedians, but only a few like Ravi Gupta, Rajat Sood, and Ashish Solanki, Bharti , Harsh actually made a significant impact. There may be a few others as well, but honestly, many comedians seem to come mainly for the spotlight. They don’t really engage with the other panelists or contribute much to the overall conversation.

That’s the difference: simply being a comedian doesn’t automatically make someone a good Latent panelist. You need to be able to interact, react, improvise, and actually add something to the panel.

Episode 5 is breaking all records!

Episode 5 is breaking all records!

It has reportedly crossed 4 million views on Netflix in just 3 days, ranking #1 among Indian shows on Netflix. What’s even more impressive is that India’s Got Latent has consistently remained in the Top 3 on Netflix since Season 2 launched, frequently reaching the #1 position as well.

The show is genuinely on another level right now.

And my prediction: by the end of this month, Episode 5 could potentially reach 100–200 million views on YouTube. 100M feels achievable, while 200M would be a massive milestone, but considering the momentum this episode has right now, I wouldn’t completely rule it out.

What do you guys think?

A reality check for everyone calling India’s Got Latent Season 2 “scripted”

I keep seeing people say that Season 2 is scripted because some interactions feel too perfectly timed or because certain guests/contestants have suddenly become very popular.

But think about what “scripted” would actually mean.

If Samay and the entire team were scripting the outcomes, reactions, jokes, controversies, viral moments, and careers of every person appearing on the show, they would basically have to predict how millions of viewers would react to every single episode.

And the bigger point is the ecosystem Latent has created.

Samay isn't just bringing stand-up comedy fans. His audience overlaps with chess, general entertainment, internet culture, celebrities, news/current affairs, and even people who had never watched Indian stand-up before.

That is why someone appearing on Latent can suddenly get attention from an audience completely outside their usual fanbase.

Look at people who continue uploading their Latent clips months later. That's not necessarily evidence that everything was scripted, it's evidence that the show has become a distribution platform for comedians and internet personalities.

And here's another thing people conveniently ignore:

Samay himself has appeared on other comedians' shows without treating every collaboration like a business transaction. He has repeatedly collaborated with people from the same ecosystem, which helps explain why so many comedians and creators are willing to appear around him.

You don't have to like Latent. You don't have to like Samay. You can criticize the jokes, editing, guests, controversies, or even the format.

But saying “everything is scripted” simply because something looks unusually well-timed isn't an argument.

Sometimes the simpler explanation is that you're watching a highly edited entertainment show with experienced comedians, creators who understand viral content, and an audience that is extremely responsive.

Not everything that looks calculated is scripted.

And honestly, if someone has actual evidence that Season 2 is scripted, show it. Otherwise, “bro this looks too perfect” isn't evidence.

Latent and samay haters!

Right now, I feel Samay Raina is handling an audience that is even broader than Kapil Sharma’s in terms of the different communities he has brought together.

Whenever a comedian appears on his platform, they get a huge amount of spotlight. Take Rajat Sood, for example—he is still uploading clips from India’s Got Latent, and the exposure he received from the show continues to benefit him.

Many people know comedians like Ashish, Bassi, Madhur, Tanmay, etc., mainly if they already follow the OG stand-up comedy scene. But Samay’s audience goes far beyond just stand-up.

His audience includes:

Chess viewers

General audiences

Stand-up comedy fans

Celebrities

Politicians, News & media (wele bale)

So on

People who simply discovered him through India’s Got Latent

That diversity is probably one of Samay’s biggest advantages. He has created an ecosystem where appearing alongside him can introduce a comedian to audiences they might never have reached otherwise.

And one more interesting thing: Samay never charged when he appeared on Ashish Solanki's show. That also says something about how he approaches collaborations and the ecosystem around his peers.
