Getting the Akai EWI USB working properly

hey there!

i recently acquired an Akai EWI USB which i love, but i haven't been able to get it to be as expressive on midi on Bitwig - when i use it on garageband on my phone, it works great, but breath controlling velocity and volume is pretty on or off binary as soon as the note starts, and the cutoff for both volume and when a note should start is also off.

the only thing that seems to work is pitch bending. when i set up controls on the instrument itself through the software, they save and im able to take it to garageband or bitwig but the parameters don't seem to be read properly in bitwig.

the parameters on the EWI itself are Breath CC1/CC2, Bite CC1/CC2, Velocity, Pitchbend Up/Down - and then the sensitivities to each - which bitwig doesn't QUITE ignore but it might as well ignore.

i have breath CC1 set to "Breath Controller (coarse)" and CC2 set to "Volume (coarse)" - CC2 default is aftertouch but that doesn't seem to do anything in bitwig either - i've gotten the best results switching it to volume.

is there any way i can get bitwig to behave here?

Can't unload filament after cleaning up a blob - printer yells at me if I try (A1)

we had a huge blob that built up. we ended up having to replace the hotend but now there's some kind of filament stuck inside and the printer is making a concerning noise when trying to get it out

im not sure what to do here to fix it

4x back button mod kits that allow mapping multiple inputs?

im looking for a mod kit that allows for mapping multiple inputs.

i know it's very silly, but the plan is to use inputplumber to spoof a dualsense edge for discrete steaminput support by mapping select+dpad buttons to the back buttons and have inputplumber translate those inputs to the extra buttons on the edge.

i have a tonkamodz kit in a drawer but im thinking about giving up on the concept and getting the rise max rmb because i do also want trigger stops, but it'd be nice to have automated profile switching. (i also haven't gotten a response from them asking for install documentation and it no longer seems to be on their website)

[GUIDE] Getting Skyrim to run with SKSE and full* mod support

I just spent quite a while figuring this out, so I figured I'd share what I've found.
Effectively we're going to use Mod Organizer 2 on a different system, and then copy the loadout onto our device. This does require a PC of some kind that can run modded Skyrim - if you don't have one, you'll have to manually install mods which will work for smaller modlists, but ultimately I won't be covering that.

I am doing this from an AYN Thor Max. I'm not sure if you'd have luck with a non-snapdragon chip.

Temper your graphical expectations, expect to run the game with like SMIM on medium without being able to do much for textures and the like. Low performance friendly mods will still be fine, but I mostly run vanilla. I could not get ENB to work, and Community Shaders *does* work but fails to recompile shaders and so it takes 8 minutes to launch the game every single time, and you have to remove the old shaders to do so. I could not get them working (even though I really would like to.)

This also requires some extra space on your PC for staging your mods.

Here are the steps

On your PC:

  • Get your loadout working on your PC with Mod Organizer 2, including any patches (like LOD or Nemesis.) Remember the things you had to manually install (SKSE, Part 2 Engine Fixes, etc) - Linux users can use mo2-lint if they want an easier time getting MO2 running.
  • Switch the executable to Explorer++, which will bring you to a data folder. (If you're on Linux, I've had better luck using the portable version of DoubleCommander
  • Copy the contents of the data folder somewhere else, we're saving the state MO2 puts things in so that we can replicate it on the device. You can save space by not copying the Skyrim/DLC/Update data over, but doesn't really matter if you just do the whole thing.
  • We need to grab a few files from the MO2 mod directory. This should be a folder structure with downloads, mods, profiles, etc. Find the profiles folder and grab plugins.txt, skyrim.ini, and skyrimprefs.ini to also transfer over.
  • You might need to edit the .ini files to fit the resolution of your device. I found that SKSE only shows in borderless windowed mode, I would recommend using that. Copy all the files to your device, somewhere. Remember where you put them.

On your device:

  • Download the Visual C++ Redistributable and put it with the files you're copying over.
  • Prepare any files you need to manually install (like SKSE)
  • Install Skyrim Special Edition through GameNative. I would recommend starting fresh. Settings will be per device. Proton 10 and 11 (ARM) both work for me, but Proton 11 fails to copy files for me so I would stick to 9 or 10 at least for setup.
  • In the "Drives" tab, add a new drive and point it to where you placed your files. If you put the files in your Downloads, you do not have to do this.
  • Run the game once to initialize it
  • Click on the settings after it's installed, and click on "Open Container"
  • Your game is mounted to the A drive. In those files, you'll find a _CommonRedist folder. Open that > DirectX > Jun2010, and run DXSETUP.exe.
  • Copy the manually installed files directly into your game directory. Always hit yes to replace. If you plug in a keyboard/connect a bluetooth keyboard, you can hold the enter button and it'll automatically do it. (This will take a while)
  • Copy your Data files from your PC directly into the game's Data folder.
  • Copy the plugins.txt file into the AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition\ folder - replace what's there if anything is there.
  • (Optional) Copy your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini into the Documents\My Games\Skyrim Speciaal Edition folder
  • Run the Visual C++ Redistributable you downloaded earlier and install it.
  • Exit the container.
  • Re-enter the container and try running skse64_loader.exe in the game folder to make sure it launches fine. You can also load the launcher here if you need to adjust settings after the fact.
  • If it all looks good, go back to the settings and switch the executable launched to skse64_loader.exe.

I have a pretty substaintial modlist, and I have heavier stuff like TrueHUD, Ultimate Dodge, SkyParkourv2, SmoothCam, QuickLoot, etc working. The only mods I've found that don't work in my list are Phantom Horse, Immersive Spell Learning - DEST, and the aforementioned Community Shaders. I have been really happy with what works and I don't feel like I'm getting a compromised modded experience.

Bonus - You can turn Skyrim into a dual screen game really easily with a few things. I do not want to play the game any other way now, not having to pause to menu is a revelation. You can install the server at SkyrimWebSocket and get the app to connect to it at SkyrimWebMonitor

Happy modding!
