Anyone else carry pruning shears when riding?

Lots of branches sticking down into the space my head or body is going to be moving through when I'm going to or from work in the dark.

I carry pruning shears and trim stuff on the way home, when I don't have to be there at a particular time.

I've done this since a friend I was riding with a long time ago got a scratched cornea while we were riding. I now wear safety glasses if I'm not wearing sunglasses, but still don't want to have to duck, swerve, or get hit by branches.

Our city does a pretty darn good job of creating, connecting, and maintaining bicycle/multi-use trails, but not always such a good job of trimming the intruding flora, so I do it for them. Lots of homeowners seem to think that people having to duck under their trees is OK, so I trim them, too.

There are a couple of places along trails where I'm going to have to go back with a saw, as the offending branch(es) are too big for pruning shears.

I normally just drop the branches into the grass, off the trail/sidewalk/street, whatever I'm riding on at that time.

Rude walker on multi-use path

Just started commuting to and from work on an e-bike. This evening, on my way to work, I crossed a main street, and turned on to a mixed use trail/path going over a bridge with the trail sandwiched between concrete railings. I haven't measured how wide the path is, but the minimum per our city standards is 6', and I suspect that's what this one is. So, as I get onto the bridge, I see a guy walking squarely in the center of the path, and I give a jingle on the bike bell when I'm about 30 feet away. I see his head come around, although not enough to see me. Stays in the middle of the path.

I slow down, and say, "Excuse me, on your left."

"I'm not fucking moving for you, I'll throw you over the fucking railing if you hit me."

OK then.

I slowed down and stayed about 15 feet away until he was past the end of the bridge, and then went around him on the grass, at which point he started cursing and threatening me. So I let him know he was number one in my books, and rode on as he continued to tell me how he was going to kick my ass. Considering I was rapidly accelerating, I wasn't exactly shaking with fear that he might catch me on foot.

Not sure what his problem with a random bicycle rider was, but I suspect it's one of many issues in his life.

I think I'll get a can of pepper spray, and strap it somewhere handy on the bike. I ride through some of the less lovely parts of town on my commute.

Buying Velotric Nomad 2, or Aventon Aventure 3 in the next couple of days, please give pros/cons for either/each if you own, or have knowledge of either.

I had an automobile collision the other day, and while my car may be getting fixed, it will take a while, and I need something that will get me to work and back, also to other things around town.

I test rode several bikes at my local e-bike shop today, and these two stood out as my favorites. Both are the same price.

I'm 6'6", about 215 lbs. I'll need a longer seat post for either one to get the "correct" leg extension, and may need to replace the handlebars with something taller, as I'm getting on in years, and want to sit up more on the bike.

My commute is relatively short, about 8 miles each way, all paved trails/sidewalks or roads, except for the parking lot at work. I don't plan on doing much, if any off-road/trail. We have reasonably extensive trails around the city, and crushed limestone trails outside of the city. (Lincoln, Nebraska.)

Thank you for any help.

Edit to add: I'm not interested in other brands for reasons. If you can't answer the question, move on, don't waste your time.

Table design for only extremely accurate shooters.

The people that redid the rails needed to make some adjustments, so took them back to their shop.

I guess technically I could shoot on it, but I would want to be very careful about not missing the pocket entirely, and not trying to bounce off any rails for leave. The initial break could present some challenges.

ETA: Looking at the picture, the lens distortion shows the ceiling very oddly, I was holding my phone about 8 inches from the ceiling. Guess I could have cropped it a bit. But I also really like the ceiling.

Thanks to the volunteers @ Hyde Memorial Observatory, Lincoln, NE for their help

Spent some time just at sunset and for about an hour after @ Hyde Memorial Observatory at Holmes Park here in Lincoln, Nebraska. They have nice equipment and facilities, and are open weekly, free of charge, to the public. All staff are friendly volunteers, and I suspect all are members of the Prairie Astronomy Club.

I received a telescope from my sister, who got it at a garage sale for the quite reasonable price of, "Oh, just take it," as they were in the last hour of their sale, and they had only bought it in the first place as a prop for a party, not because they wanted a telescope. (Basically, they didn't want it sitting around cluttering their house any more.)

It's a Bushnell 78-3612, which evidently means it's a "vintage" 3" primary mirror Newtonian design, and came with 1-20mm eyepiece, and a cover for the tube opening that had a hole in the center. (Not sure why the hole is there, but I learned you can't see squat through the cover.) Also, a kind of flimsy wooden tripod with extendable legs, and lots of loose screws on the tripod and the scope.

I had no clue how to use/set it up, nor whether it was even working or adjusted correctly. I looked once at a somewhat distant building to try to get the finder scope aimed in the same general direction as the telescope, and discovered that I could see the building quite clearly when I fiddled with the focus. But I was unable to see anything in the night sky with it, and didn't know exactly what the problem was.

I spoke to the gentleman at the door of the observatory, and told him about it, and wondered if there were any of the staff/volunteers who could give me a few minutes of their time to take a look, and see if the scope was working at all, and if it were worth spending some time/cash on.

Travis was kind enough to spend time aligning the finder with the main tube, and got it pointed first at Venus, and then Jupiter. I was able to see both clearly, but small, as well as 3 moons of Jupiter, just faintly. The gentleman at the door was able to find Mercury with his binoculars on a tripod, well before Mercury was visible to the naked eye, and I was delighted to be able to find it myself with my telescope, after it was dark enough to find with the naked eye.

It's missing the locking thumbscrew for the altitude adjustment on the mount, which keeps if from easily holding a steady position, should be a cheap fix from the hardware store. The mount sucks, and the tripod, well, it's 1x1" wood, strapped together with tin. If you don't expect too much, it will work. I'm looking at DIY plans for a Dobsonian, and I have plenty of scraps of wood in the garage to be able to make one. Also going to search for a couple of eyepieces, probably something like a 4-6mm, and something between that and the 20mm that came with the scope. Maybe a Barlow, too.

Any suggestions/thoughts would be welcome for next steps, including, "Don't spend a lot of money on it, look for something better, " if you think it's a mistake. I'm just pleased I can see things through it, and that it isn't broken, and wasn't horribly out of collimation. I forsee bigger and better in the future, but I'm kind of stoked to see what it can do with more magnification. (the 20mm should be giving me 35x, as the focal length is 700mm, according to the manual I found online.)

AITA for sitting on public toilet seats and not telling my boyfriend?

When I (27F) need to pee in public, for example at a restaurant or gas station, if the toilet seat is clean I will sit down on the toilet to pee. If it has a little bit of pee on it, I will wipe it with a tissue before I sit down.

My boyfriend of 3 years recently learned this when I made a passing comment about sitting in a porta potty, and he is absolutely horrified. He is really grossed out that I have had sex with him after sitting on a public toilet seat and likens it to him wiping his dick on the lid of a toilet, or that he is putting his mouth on peoples poop particles when he goes down on me.

I asked a couple of friends, and so far the consensus is that I'm definitely the gross one and I should always hover to pee. I feel like I'm going crazy!

Am I the asshole for sitting on public toilets??
