I’ve been getting geared up to work some bull elk hides. I decided to make a heavy duty version of the lawn edger I see people modifying.

I used a pick handle, and cut and shaped the working end out of some old discarded 5/16” 316 stainless steel. The edge is beveled to about 3/32” thick. Modified the handle to fit the material, drilled, epoxied, and pinned it with 0.20” copper wire. Can’t wait to put it to work!

I decided to fabricate a new rack for my XR600R. The bike came with a rack made of 3/8” angle iron welded directly to the frame with some pretty sharp corners… apparently they haven’t crashed a dirtbike too many times lol.

I’m in the process of completely redoing the lighting and electrical on the XR and was struggling to find a good spot to mount the new SH775 regulator. I’m already planning to put a Shorai battery and Eastern Beaver fuse box under the seat and was quickly running out of real estate. I thought incorporating a mount for the regulator on the rack would work well and have ample airflow for cooling.

I decided on 3/4” .065 wall round tubing with 1/8” plate for the mounting brackets. I included holes for Cyclops Tuff Light turn signals in the brackets for solid mounting and to keep them unobstructed by any gear that finds its way on the rack.

I just dropped it off with the powder coating guy last night for some micro texture black powder coat. Hopefully it will last as long as these old 600R’s do :)

Here’s my (new to me) 1995 XR600R… that nobody wanted. I was able to contact the three previous owners today and learned that it kept getting passed along on marketplace because it was difficult to start, three owners in the about two months.Whoever built the engine took a shortcut and eliminated the compression release. We’re gonna fix that.

I’ve got a good clean eBay valve cover coming with a functioning decompression lever. I’m going with an updated CRF450R clutch perch and turning the hot start lever into a decompression lever. I’ve got a 40mm FCR MX carb ready to go along with a set of CRF450R front forks.

This is going to be the dualsport bike I always dreamed of, it’s going from the bike no one wanted to one I’ll never sell.

Can anyone confirm that there is indeed a difference in the OEM Honda XR650R headlight in the European version vs the American version?

I’m in the process of planning a street legal conversion build in here the states and really like this headlight or an aftermarket like this. It’s my understanding that this larger light came stock in the bikes sold in Europe. I like the idea of having the option of being able to use the various aftermarket 4”x6” LED lamps. I’d like to find one of these light shrouds for my build.

P.S. if this is your bike I used for this picture I’d like to know more about your build :)
