Shoutout to Calgary Peace Officers for the Fast Response

Just wanted to give a shoutout to Calgary Transit for their quick response today. I was on the train when a guy was losing his crap, screaming racist stuff, and "planning to bomb the f*ck out of downtown," so I texted 74100 to report it.

I texted them at Bridgeland, and by the time I got to City Hall, peace officers were already there and escorted the individual off the train. I really appreciate how quickly they took the report seriously and acted on it. As a teenager who takes transit a lot, it’s reassuring to see that when you report something like this, someone actually responds quickly. Big thanks to the peace officers who showed up and dealt with the situation!

Downtown CTrain Closure Guide (Aug. 1–3)

Trains are down this weekend throughout Downtown, and it was really confusing and chaotic for so many people. So I made a guide, to hopefully make it easier for a couple of people.

--

If you're taking the CTrain through downtown this long weekend, here's a quick guide to avoid getting lost.

The following downtown stations are closed:

  • City Hall / Bow Valley College (Towards Tuscany & 69th Street)
  • Centre Street
  • 1 Street SW
  • 3 Street SW
  • 4 Street SW
  • 6 Street SW
  • 7 Street SW
  • 8 Street SW (Towards Saddletowne & Somerset Bridlewood

--

A single Red/Blue Line Shuttle replaces train service through downtown.

Westbound (if you are travelling towards: Tuscany/69th Street)

  • Uses 6 Avenue SW

Eastbound (if you are travelling towards: Somerset/Saddletowne)

  • Uses 9 Avenue SW

Look for buses displaying "Red/Blue Line Shuttle." ALL OF THEM ARE THE SAME

--

Are you riding the Red Line?

Heading to Somerset-Bridlewood:

  • Trains will head back towards Tuscany at 8th Street
  • Get off at 8th Street and walk towards 7th Street; you will see the shuttles or the Max Green stop!
  • Ride the shuttle to City Hall
  • Transfer to the train on the SOUTHBOUND/Regular Platform.

Heading to Tuscany:

  • Trains will head back towards Somerset at City Hall
  • Get off at City Hall and walk towards McLeod Trail/Olympic Plaza; you will see the shuttles on your left! (In front of the Municipal Building.)
  • Ride the shuttle to 8 Street Station
  • Transfer to the train at 8th Street Station (the opposite platform from usual.)

--

Are you riding the Blue Line?

Heading to Saddletowne:

  • Trains will head back towards 69 Street at 7th Street Station
  • Get off at 7 Street Station and walk towards 7th Street (look for the IDA); you will see the shuttles or the Max Green stop!
  • Ride the shuttle to City Hall
  • Transfer to the train on the Northbound/Opposite Platform (Usually the 69th Street or Tuscany side).

Heading to 69 Street

  • Trains will head back towards Saddletowne at City Hall
  • Get off at City Hall and walk towards McLeod Trail/Olympic Plaza; you will see the shuttles on your left! (In front of the Municipal Building.)
  • Ride the shuttle to 7 Street Station
  • Transfer to the westbound Blue Line train towards 69 Street at 7th Street Station; the typical one!

Sign Up for Missing Kids Alerts

I've been thinking a lot about the missing child, and I just found out that you can sign up for alerts and it'll give you a push notification. Sadly not every case is a amber alert. So just putting it out there for others to find out about.

r/GuessTheAirport Update: 2.5K Visitors & New Solved Feature!

Hey everyone!

I'm excited to announce that r/GuessTheAirport has reached 2,500 visitors!

Thank you all for participating, sharing airport photos, making guesses, and helping grow the community. I really appreciate everyone who has contributed so far!

I've also added a new feature: the !solved command.

If you post a challenge and someone correctly identifies the airport, you can now mark it as solved by replying to the correct answer with:

"!solved"

This will help keep the subreddit organized and make it easier to see which posts have been completed.

Any previous posts, I will be going through and editing. After this point, please use this command.

Lastly, I’d love your feedback:

  • Do you like the new solved system?
  • Are there any features you’d like to see added?
  • Any suggestions to improve the subreddit?

Thanks again for helping r/GuessTheAirport reach 2.5K visitors!

Are Speed Checks on Bike Paths common?

I was out near Edworthy Park yesterday and saw Calgary Police doing speed enforcement on the pathway, like on the bike path.

I've lived here for years and genuinely had no idea they monitored speeds on the pathways. They had what looked like a radar gun and were stopping cyclists. I thankfully was using my limited braincells and was going slow.

Has anyone else seen this before? Is it common around Edworthy or other parts of the pathway system?

Student Offering Free Design Work

Hi everyone!

I'm a Grade 9 student who's trying to build my design skills over the summer. I'm looking to do some small design work. So if you're a local community group, student club, small event organizer, fundraiser, sports team, nonprofit, or just someone who needs a simple poster or flyer made, I'd be happy to help for No Cost

I'm not a professional designer, but I'll do my best and hopefully help some people while I'm at it.

Thank you all and have a goodnight!

Transit Operators: What is your favorite moment from on the job?

I met a person who is a Shuttle operator and they had amazing stories to say the least, so I'd love to hear more from everyone. :)
