A reading from Frederick Douglass’ descendents

In the summer of 2020, the U.S. commemorated Independence Day amid nationwide protests for racial justice and systemic reforms in the wake of George Floyd’s death. That June, NPR asked five young descendants of Frederick Douglass to read and respond to excerpts of his famous speech, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”. It's a powerful, historical text that reminds us of the ongoing work of liberation.

Finally found a penny item!

Bob Ross boxer briefs.

I gave up long ago trying to use listings and the app to find anything. I just happened on these yesterday and they rang up for a penny each. Pure luck 🍀

Just sharing a body cream “fillet”…

This isn’t a serious discussion post, or the usual end of month empty post….I just felt the need to reach out into the void and share. “Filleting” a product package or something passed on to me from my boomer mother. We just buried her the day before Easter, and it hit me today as this was one of a little things we would always talk about.
“Waste not, want not" & “ good to last drop” (I know that is suppose to be coffee) were ingrained in me from mom (who grew up in the shadow of World War II in Mississippi ). We would talk about the things we were using the last of, and what the experience had been like.
“Is that’s something you would try again?” she would ask, and if it was Bath and body Works, I would usually reply “they discontinued it, of course”.

Usually, by this time of year, I have made the switch from body cream to regular lotion… but the weather hasn’t been blazing hot so I just stuck with body cream a little bit longer.

So this morning before I have my coffee, I’m saying goodbye to the last of my satin slippers body cream (notes: white rose, dreamy, Jasmine, and airy musk); running my finger over the sparkly tube one last time…and remembering the pleased tones from mom that we didn’t waste a drop.

Would love to hear your reflections as well.
Thanks for reading.

Early June rain in Navasota, Texas

I was planning on going for a walk in the woods, but the rain lulled me to sit down and take a nap on a nearby bench.

Candy???

I picked up this box yesterday when I visited the local toy store… $1
I got a box for old time sake.
I actually like the way they tasted… chalky sweet goodness.
I ate so much of these, I am surprised I never was drawn to my BigMa’s menthols 😆

What was your pick in “penny candy “, or can you think of some sweet treats that might not fly off the shelves today due to changing ethics/morals?

Google Doodle Winner 2026: "Hair Power: The Crown that Grows From Us" by Kameirah (12th grade)

\"Hair Power: The Crown that Grows From Us\" by Kameirah

https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/doodles/2026-winner/

I saw this pop up first thing at work and it warmed my heart to see it front and center for a worldwide audience...had to share. This year's theme was "My superpower is..."

Kameirah describes her artwork: “My superpower is my hair, and the family it carries. Each texture and style holds culture, care, and survival passed down without words. Lying in the grass, our crowns rest without weakening. This kinky hair refuses conformity. It makes us different. Shaped by our lineage, our hair is undeniably beautiful.”

As the 2025-2026 Doodle for Google National Winner, Kameirah wins a $55,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for her school.

Favorite TV show theme song?

I have a bunch that I really enjoyed and still sing til this day but 1 stands out: “Shine on Me” the theme from Amen {sung by Vanessa Bell Armstrong and written by Andrea Crouch}.
It sits supreme as I have strong memories of my multi-generational family all sitting down together to sing along when Amen came on.

What is your favorite TV theme song and why?

I did a quick drop in the Round Rock, TX outlet on 4/30/2026.
I was hoping to see some wallflower refills on sale but the ones here were campfire doughnut and almond croissant…. And I didn’t want foodie refills.
