What happened to the beach at Inverhuron Provincial Park?

I was looking at the Ontario Parks site and it lists the beach closed due to bacterial levels. On the site swimguide.org it also shows the beach closed all of 2026. It shows it open basically all the time in the previous years. Also, every other beach in the area is open right now.

What happened at the park to close the beach?

How to clean a pack?

I have an expedition pack from recreational barrel works. It got a bit muddy on my last trip. Any suggestions on the best way to clean and dry it?

Do I need a lock for my canoe?

I have a rather expensive carbon kevlar solo canoe I plan to bring with me. I'll be staying at the George Lake campground the first night. I'm hiking The Crack the following day. After that, I'll be paddling into David Lake from Johnnie Lake to hike Silver Peak day 3. For George Lake and The Crack I'll have my canoe tied to my car the whole time. For Silver Peak I plan to leave it at the trailhead off David Lake.

Would it be wise of me to bring up a lock for any or all of these moments? Has anyone ever heard of a canoe being stolen while someone is hiking?

Anyone want any cherries?

I have a very ready to pick Stella (sweet) cherry tree. I cannot possibly harvest it all. Feel free to DM me and I'll give you my address to come by and pick your fill. Ideally you should bring a ladder

Cherries anyone?

My 8 year old stella cherry tree. Freshly pruned/butchered by the city to keep it away from the paper lines.

The city butchered my cherry tree 😭

I understand they need to keep the branches away from the wires but I had been taking care of this myself. I pruned twice a year to keep them no closer than a couple feet away. Today without warning they came and butchered my poor tree. It looks terrible now. 😭😭😭

Magic hour out on the water of Cootes Paradise is a slice of heaven. I hope everyone has the chances to experience it at least once.

Who are your top three favourite backcountry YouTubers and why do you like them?

My favourite has to be Lost Lakes. Jon is such a great, honest human. I can't help but smile while I watch his videos. He has such a welcoming personality that you just feel like his old friend despite him talking to strangers. He is truly a kindred spirit with nature around him.

A close second after Jon would be Kevin from Kevin Wild. Another guy that just has such a positive vibe around him. His 42 day journey across Northern Quebec and Labrador included some of the most fearless and insane things I have ever seen an individual do. His channel is a perfect combination of trips I could manage and the ones I dream of.

My third favourite would be probably be Xander Budnick. It's easy to see why his channel grew to the size it did. His light-hearted attitude stands up by itself as an equally enjoyable part of his content as the trips he takes. He's always ready for a joke while undertaking some insane thing.

Honourable mentions for others I watch often: KC Happy Camper (Kevin Callan), Beauty of the Backcountry, Tumblehome

I would love to expand my horizons though. What are your favourites?

Edit: I'm not familiar with their channels but based on multiple recommendations I'm going to check out northern scavenger and canoe the north first

Best non-smash burger places

I have tried looking at previous threads and they're mostly smash burgers. Please share your favourite restaurants and pubs for a classic burger. The main one I see for this is The Ship. Nothing against The Ship, but I want to try new places. TYIA

Let's talk double bladed paddles

I just recently picked up my first solo canoe. I would like to buy a double bladed paddle for it. My question is how important is it to get a "canoe" paddle vs kayak paddle. It seems most kayak paddle speak of "low angle" paddling. Obviously a canoe is far higher in the water.

Is the low angle just marketing speak? Will it make a big difference compared to a proper double bladed canoe paddle (H2O I believe makes one for example)?

The paddle I'm looking at is the Pelican catch 260 (260cm) angler kayak paddle. It's incredibly light compared to most at a decent price.

Temagami/Lady Evelyn route question

I'm looking at doing the North and South channels of the Lady Evelyn River next year. Can anyone recommend me if it is a nicer paddle to access it from Mowat Landing or either of the access point 27 locations (Ferguson Bay/Red Squirrel Lake)?

Benefits of a sliding seat in a solo canoe?

I'm in the market for a canoe and found a used Swift Keewaydin 15 carbon fusion/carbon tech solo canoe for a decent price for sale near me. It has a foot bar, which I want, and a sliding seat, which I have never considered.

For those with more experience, is it really useful in a solo to have a sliding seat? I think I can picture the benefits of it by moving it forward in a strong wind and further back in a calmer day. I'm just not sure if it is worth it. If you move the seat back you are also adjusting your foot bar. Also, I will likely install knee pads and moving the seat around will put them out of position. I guess the simple solution to that is you put the knee pads in the location you would want them to be in if the seat was fully forward.

Unfortunately this canoe isn't near water so I can't test paddle it.
