Ocellaris are kinda dumb

Don’t get me wrong, I love them. They are my favorite clowns and I have 5 at home.

But damn they are frustrating when it comes to anemones. Today I added a bubble tip to my work tank and within only 5 minutes of being added, this Tomato has already claimed it.

Ocellaris be slackin.

Double tank transfer was a success

I had too many tanks running and it was getting overwhelming managing them all. I combined everything from my 5 gallon and my 7 gallon into a 20 long. Went smooth and looking good!

My Newest Tank

Found a crazy deal on live rock and coral but had nowhere to put it so decided to set up a new tank. This makes 4 saltwater tanks now!

Dottybacks Cohabitating

Dottybacks are known to be aggressive towards other fish and can be extremely aggressive to those in their own species or genus. Despite this, they are one of my favorite saltwater fish, so much personality and amazing colors!

It’s not recommended to keep Dottybacks together but it has been done successfully which is why I wanted to try. I wouldn’t do this with just any two Dottybacks but I did want to show that it can be done!

I’ve got a Striped (Sankeys) and an Orchid. These two are known to be some of the most peaceful among Dottys which is why I chose them.

There was some minor scuffles the first day they were together as they figured each other out and established dominance. Since then, they have been living together peacefully. They haven’t had any quarrels over territory and haven’t shown any aggression after the initial encounter.

DIY - HOB Filter/Refugium

Threw this together quick and easy for my 30 gallon I just set up.

I used the large Fluval Breeding and Holding Box which comes with just about everything you need to set this up. https://a.co/d/0dlQ42ea

Only other supplies needed are a small water pump, filter media and a small light for the refugium. Extremely easy to set up and I’m super happy with how well it’s functioning!

2.7 gallon low tech pico

12 varieties of coral, 5 varieties of macroalgae, 1 Hectors goby and 1 emerald crab.

Hardware is two cheap Amazon lights and a small water pump.

Yes, I’ve got a bit of algae. I don’t scrape the sides or back and intentionally keep a bit for the goby and crab, as well as to help keep pod populations up.

2 month update - Tap water and play sand tank

Right around the 2 month mark in this tank and things are going really well!

Home to 13 varieties of coral, 4 species of macroalgae, a bicolor blenny, a green banded goby, a pink skunk clown, a couple hermits and a peppermint shrimp.

I run a $5 water pump and a $10 light from Amazon. I’ve only done one water change and have a lid that keeps moisture in well so rarely do top offs. The only thing I test is salinity.

This is my lowest maintenance tank and has quickly become my favorite! Here’s a link to the post of when I started it -

Working on the scape for a section of the 500 gallon

It’s nowhere near complete, need to make all the arches still but it’s coming along. This section is approximately 165 gallons.

New work project - 500 gallon

I was recently hired to maintain and build tanks for a local auto repair chain. Currently maintaining a 210 gallon at one location and today I started working on getting a 500 gallon going at another location!

Unexpected pals

The blenny did NOT like when the goby moved into her rock. Now they hang out all the time!

Why aren’t Pipe Organs more popular?

They are technically a soft coral but make a calcium skeleton. They have great movement and color and come in a few different varieties. They also don’t grow invasively fast like many soft corals do.

A quick search on here shows very few posts, most of them old and there isn’t a ton of them available online. I think they need to be more popular!

Ceguinho and Bengala

My wife who is Brazilian named them. In Portuguese, Ceguinho means little blind man and Bengala means cane 😂
