Escaping poverty ?

Any body got any inspirational stories on how they escaped poverty or making low income in their mid 30? I'm trying but it seems so hard and sometimes outright impossible if you don't got the proper set up. Hope my life isn't always like this

Any of y'all hockey fans ? To the brothers that are not..would you be more interested if there were more black players ?

Just curious. It can feel alienating being a black hockey fan sometimes. Although most people have greeted me and welcomed me into the sport with support and open arms there have been one offs. I was on my way into a Red Wings vs Avalanche game just chopping it up with some random white folk. Then out of nowhere this white dude said " You know usually when I show black guys hockey they end up loving it !" I thought it was weird for him to say that and I didn't know how to reply. The whole group got quiet and just kind of ignored him. But I can't help but think that if there were more of us in the sport or fans of the sport no one would think to say such a thing.

Trying to build a social life, should I go to a bar alone and sober ?

Should I go to a bar alone and sober on a trivia night ?

I'm at a point in my life where I'm trying to build a social life however I find myself in a pinch because I am practicing sobriety and becoming more fit. I fear the only avenue I can afford right now is going to a bar for now until I can reasonably afford hobbies like BJJ or rock climbing which may take a year. Otherwise bars are the only I can think of. However there are certain factors discouraging me to go.

  1. I most likely won't be around people who share the same lifestyle and values as me

  2. If I do interact with someone , chances are it won't be a genuine one because they are most likely under the influence and probably wouldn't even entertain me if they were sober.

Should I just sit in tonight ? Or should I get out there and see what life brings me ?

How should I tackle my debt ?

I'm currently $5,000 ( combined medical expense and credit card debt ) in debt. Currently my card is at $2,919 with $3,000 limit. I have medical expenses that are around $2500 .

I make 1,900 bi weekly but take home 1,630 due to my HSA and the highest health premium that I pay each check. Currently $1000 in HSA.

Im trying to figure what's the best approach to pay off my debt what amount and what time intervals. I'm not financially smart. So I need some pointers.

I'm also looking for a new car, and saving money to get a new house and not to mention going back to school. But I don't know if any of this is possible in my financial lifetime. What's a game plan I can implement to achieve my goals ?

Why do they still ghost even when you give them an easy way out ?

For example when you sense they are losing interest and you call them out on it and tell them that it's okay if they are no longer interested and that it's better off if y'all split, they still manage to say something to keep the hope alive and then slowly ghost anyways. Like why ? Why lie ?

Any other brothers struggle with attracting in -shape fit women despite being fit yourself ?

I broadcast that I live a very active and fitness oriented lifestyle but I still attract an overwhelming number of obese women lol. I prefer fit women but I get few and far in between. I'm also noticing that fitness lifestyle is dominated by men so I may be out of luck regardless. I wish more women were into fitness. I also believe being a black male contributes to it because of the stereotype that we like big women. Thoughts ?

Very embarrassed I don't have any savings or 401k at 32

That's it. I have worked 7 years at a company and don't have anything to show for it due to my financial ignorance. There was a time I was trying to find access to 401k but my Human Resources department couldn't give me any solid information. I'll admit I didn't even hear the term 401k until I was in my late 20s. What should I start doing ?

Trying to hang in there but sometimes I don't see the point in going on... They say it gets better but it's just so tough

I feel trapped in life. I've been working at a job that I hate for the past 7 years climbed my way up the ranks till the point that I am stuck here with a pay that would be hard to find else where. It doesn't help that I don't have any inclinations to pivot to any career or job I'll be interested in. Terrible work life balance working for 10s to 13s.

I don't have a connection to my friends because they live very marginalized lives and we just aren't socially compatible anymore.

Coming off a 6 month relationship break up

And I have a nearly maxed out credit card. I'm too stressed and depressed to even think about anything.

What should I do I'm so lost hurt and hopeless

"Unless y'all secretly dating ". Fellas was I disrespected ?

I'm out on a date at this House Music hangout. My date and I are off to the side chilling until this random woman comes up and asks if we wanted to get a picture together. Mind you this is out first so I respectfully declined but before I could finish she bluntly said "Unless y'all secretly dating or something "..I was low-key stunned. But she then walked off. I was about to brush it off but my date said she felt some type of way about it. Lowkey feltl like I dropped the ball because I didn't check the woman. I did think it was an odd question but I didn't look that deep into it. But the fact my date brung it up made me feel like I didn't man up and check the disrespect.

What's y'all thoughts ?

Surviving a rut in life. How did you manage ?

I'm in a very tough rut in life. I live alone at 32 working a job that I hate but have no skills to transfer to another job where I would be making as much as I do. I'll probably end up working some minimum wage job where I would be struggling to make ends meet. So I feel stuck but my job is taking a massive toll on my mental health. I don't know if I can survive the weeks up ahead . I want to give up so bad.

My credit is tanking because I have so many bills and late payments piling up and I'm getting overwhelmed. They say things get better but I don't see how anything can change for me.

I'm looking for hope.

Anybody was in a similar position and ending up surviving and loving life again ?

Went to the Medieval Faire as a black man ....

We to a Ren faire this weekend and actually had a good time. I was a little bit nervous because I actually dressed up this time but said fuck it and went for it.

Before going I was concerned about being the only black folk there with my friend (who's also black) in a predominantly white space but it all subsided when I got there. Actually had a very wholesome experience with a group of black women. She saw us and said out loud at the top of her lungs " I LOVE SEEING MY PEOPLE. NOT TRYING TO BE WEIRD BUT I'M REALLY HAPPY Y'ALL ARE HERE! "

And I replied feeling my heart warming and all " We're happy to see you too!"

A very wholesome interaction

Then we move to the fuck shit . So me and my bro are chopping it up with the vendors and we come across this guy who's selling weapons. At first the conversation was going very smooth as we discussed ancient military tactics of Germanic tribes and Roman military personnel. Then the conversation kind of shifted how tough and grimy it was to live in such times. Then literally unprovoked, he said something along the lines of "I'm not trying to diminish the experience (he never mentioned what exactly he was referring to but the next sentence he said let me know exactly what he was talking about) people say the 50s were bad..."then continues on talking about the living conditions of the commoner of medieval Europe. Like why did dude even feel the need to like bring that up? It literally had nothing to do with what we were talking about? I guess it just goes to show you how racist and dominates the mind of white people at all times even when unprovoked.

About to wrap it up on a good note. I did get invited to join the armored Knight fighting club. Decided I was going to take them up on experience it looks like it's going to be fun. I have a very strapping figure and I do have martial arts experience so they couldn't help but scout me out the crowd lol

What keeps you from committing suicide when don't have anything positive to look forward to ?

I honestly fail to see a point in even continuing on. Why struggle? I'm asking myself these deep questions and I'm not coming up with anything.

Can a restraining order prevent me from gaining employment

I had a restraining order placed against me 7 months ago without my knowledge. I had a mental health (manic) episode and admitted to the police I was stalking my ex and that I needed help. They sent me to the psychiatric hospital. Found out I had bipolar and now on medication to control it.

It will soon expire soon but I was hoping to become an RN within the next 3 years. Although it's not a criminal case because it's civil I was wondering if I will be denied employment permanently for the rest of life and am I wasting time being in school? I want to know so I can drop out and not waste any money

How do y'all get over break ups ?

Just got out of a relationship and I'm trying to find out what to do with myself. I'm tempted to go out partying tonight minus the booze because I'm sober. But I already exhausted all my other coping mechanism since 6 this morning. Picking up new clothes, cleaning, reading comics books and lifting heavy. Already made a new dating profile. What you guys get into ?
