The Obama Presidential Center, a 19.3-acre campus on Chicago's South Side in Jackson Park. Officially opened in June 2026, the community-focused facility features an eight-story museum, a Chicago Public Library branch, an athletic center called "Home Court," and expansive public parklands.
Visitors can explore dynamic, interactive exhibitions including a full-scale replica of President Obama's Oval Office and panoramic views from the top-floor Sky Room.
Personally, if it's employing predominantly Black people I have no complaints.
What are your thoughts?
The white people there are so racist. I really don't understand this app. I read this today on my lunch break.
Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin co-authored the line: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal..."
Yet equality remains an elusive ideal 250 years after they wrote it down. And, America, I think we should still make that a reality.
I hope it's self-evident that black people really are just looking for equality and not revenge--to paraphrase the immortal words of Kimberly Jones. Look at all the race massacres in the last 250 years and you'll see that we have a clean record. (Except for that one time when Nat Turner had to bust a move.)
In the next 250 years, we will continue to demand and fight for equal opportunity, equal justice, and equal treatment for all. Even it feels like "reverse discrimination" to some of your citizens.
But.
It.
Ain't.
Any comic book readers in here? Any recommendations?
Vid might be a long watch (roughly 1.5mins) and sorry if this isn’t allowed.
Idk what’s the problem with kids just trying to sell stuff, candy bars, sodas, comics, whatever. It’s keeping them out of trouble. It’s teaching them responsibility. It’s helping develop interpersonal skills. It’s broadening their awareness of other people’s actions and intentions. Why do people feel the need to harass our youth smh
Over years I have seen so many debates about this in yhe comicbook space.
Some fans say the X-Men is a perfect analogy for racism, because the stories focus on Mutants ate discriminated against. While other fans say the analogy is terrible, because racism is irrational, and black people can't shoot lasers out of their hands. Therefore humans have rational reason to be afraid of Mutants.
So in conclusion. Do you think the X-Men storyline is a great analogy or terrible analogy?
Its wild how we are the creators of house and techno but at some point in history it was taken over without giving respect to the orginators
Same old American hypocrisy and ignorance of history.
IT sucks how you cant truly express how you feel on this platform or you will get banned so fast
To be honest, I was completely taken back by this. A song about one particular state that makes up .5% of the US population being the song that apparently represents America. Of all the array of songs we could have chosen to represent us it was John Denver and County Roads that we pick.
I was really shocked when this was played in Seattle and literally the whole stadium knew the words.
Now I am not saying that black men cannot be into County and/or like John Deer....but what are your thoughts on this considering the deep lineup of songs across an array of American made genres we could have pulled up?
Some people don't seem to have learned the word slavocracy. It was a term that the venerable John Quincy Adams spent his life fighting against:
Everywhere I go I see more and more hobos. McDonald's, the post office, grocery stores, and so on.
This is like the Reagan era redux with less crack and more opioids.
Patrick Kiprop won the race again.
What’s yall favorite westerns? I used to binge the fuck out of westerns. I have seen most of John Ford and John Wayne’s movies. A bunch of other ones like How the West was Won and more recent ones like Blood Tomahawk. But in solidarity with native folk I have a hard time thinking about rewatching any of these.
Today I’ve been listening to this song on repeat. I think it captures the bleak reality of life in the west and the difficulty in finding a place to settle for those who were poor at the time. I feel like a good western should at least have that much. So I’m not too sure what would really fit that bill anymore. Maybe 3:10 to Yuma.
re: digital goods shenanigans mostly centered around sony recently.
how do you feel about the titular quote?
it’s been quite a while since i pirated a game but i may or may not be able to say the same for movies and shows. lately ive been thinking about why this might be the case. for one, i am literally always at the movies watching and supporting the latest releases i care to check out (s/o I Love Boosters lol). furthermore, i haven’t ever considered myself a thief nor do i enjoy stealing but also -
merrriam-webster’s definition of “steal”:
> to take the property of another wrongfully and especially as a habitual or regular practice
by definition, if games/movies/shows etc are not a form of property that is owned then they can’t be stolen. there is no value lost. but, one could argue that games for example, are more so a service. well can you as a consumer actually “steal” that service? i would say no, maybe you can commit some form of copyright infringement but this leads me to the main reason i’m even making this post.
i recently came across an old article that quotes Gabe Newell (ceo of valve/steam) where he says:
> We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem…If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate’s service is more valuable
and that’s where it really clicked for me. i’m not buying games and possibly pirating movies and shows because i’m some thief who wants to see media companies specifically suffer. when it comes to moves and shows, it is a wholly inconvenient, expensive, unreliable and sometimes time-consuming affair these days to curate a legal media library. or to simply watch that one movie or show you have been wanting to check out.
like if you’re not hunting for the physical version of a particular movie or show which may not even be available, you’re probably juggling or
jumping between a number of different streaming service memberships, including that one you always forget to cancel each month. or maybe you’re one of those poor suckers who recently found out that that digital movie or show you purchased from sony is now going to be deleted from your library without recompense.
either way, what Gabe said years ago really underscores what i believe to be a fundamental issue with digital media in general but especially movies and shows. it is a service problem, maybe even a crisis of sorts that seemingly isn’t worth it for these media companies to address, that ultimately results in a shitty end user/consumer experience.
and now that sony just announced that they will be moving away from physical games altogether, it’s hard to imagine a future where game piracy doesn’t increase, maybe drastically so for console/exclusive titles because they will continue to pull games from storefronts, close down game servers, make them unplayable, and gouge gouge gouge for the slightest thing forcing a shitty end user/consumer experience that might have been previously avoidable via physical games
Do you agree or disagree with that?
