Having been raised in a muti/cultural-generational family this came to mind when I saw this flyer.

Gatekeeping in Black spaces often creates an atmosphere of paranoia that treats goodwill as a liability rather than a tool for growth. When community boundaries transform into rigid purity tests, the focus shifts from collective advancement to individual isolation. This environment demands that potential allies constantly prove their worth, effectively neutralizing the power of broad coalition building.

These exclusionary tactics directly mirror the historical methodologies of COINTELPRO. Intelligence agencies have long understood that the most efficient way to dismantle a movement is to exploit its internal fault lines.

By fostering mistrust and encouraging participants to police the motivations of their neighbors, communities self sabotage. When spaces prioritize nativist or lineage based divisions over shared struggles, they do the work of the oppressor for them. The energy required to maintain these barriers distracts from the vital work of confronting systemic power structures.

Solidarity is solidarity, regardless of its origin. A perspective shaped by diverse family dynamics reveals that real alignment is built on shared values and practical interaction. It requires moving beyond performative outrage and the constant scrutiny of who belongs. Healing requires a pragmatic approach to coalition building.

When individuals make a genuine effort to unlearn inherited biases, shutting them out only reinforces the very divisions the community claims to fight. Welcoming those who are striving to dismantle their own inherited hate is the only effective way to uproot that hate from the broader family tree.

Authentic community defense does not require isolation. It requires establishing strict rules against bad faith participation while simultaneously holding the door open for those operating in good faith. The goal is global solidarity. Authenticity is found in the difficult work of building bridges, not in the comfortable paranoia of policing the gates.

It is through these methods I have befriended and helped self proclaimed racists become better versions of their selves. While I am fully aware this is not always possible if we don't try then the world we leave behind will just be more of the same and the cycle will remain.
