Moving to idaho

Hello, I'm seriously considering moving to Idaho as I've visited in the past and enjoyed the nature and culture. Trying to figure out where would be the best towns/areas to move to for the stipulations my wife and I have agreed upon. We come from a small mountain town in Pennsylvania and have basic amenities but definitely not city level. We'd prefer to move somewhere that has basic amenities within an hour or two distance and is a similar distance from nature. We both are very active outdoors people and I enjoy hunting, hiking, fishing, photography and such. My wife would like somewhere that has less snow or similar snow to where we live now with is in around the 30-35 inches a year range. Have debated the treasure valley but would rather not live deep in Boise or a larger city as I prefer small town community. Thanks for any suggestions you all may have.

I don't understand how a state with so much growth can be cutting so much funding. Schools, healthcare, and now this. What is going on?

"Mass Casualty Incident" in Pierce?

Just got an alert that simply stated "MCI in Pierce, ID" with no other details. Anyone?

For those of you that lived during Cecil Andrus's goverment

How was it? Is it true that a lot of republicans would vote for him. Was he a good governor?

do you think local or state land management is doing enough to keep up with the demand?

I've lived in Idaho for a while now and lately it feels like the trails, campgrounds, and river access points are way more crowded than they used to be. I get it, Idaho is genuinely beautiful and word has gotten out. But it raises real questions about how we manage all this growth without trashing what makes the state worth visiting in the first place.

I was out near the Boise foothills last weekend and the parking situation was a mess before 8am. Same thing happened when I tried to hit a spot near the Sawtooths a few months back. It used to feel like you could find solitude without much effort.

I'm not trying to sound like a gatekeeper, everyone deserves to enjoy public land. But I'm curious what others around the state are experiencing. Are certain areas holding up better than others? Have you found any underrated spots that still feel peaceful? And do you think local or state land management is doing enough to keep up with the demand?

Would love to hear from folks in different parts of the state, whether you're near Boise, up in the panhandle, or out east near the Tetons area.

July 5th distrooo

July 5th distro! We have a lot of updates today.

First of all, huge thank you to @brewers.haven.1 for sponsoring a clothing drive for us! We had a huge turn out of clothing from our Bench community!!!

Second of all, yesterday Sunday Distro stepped up to sponsor a special July 4th Saturday Distroooo. We heard some other food programs in town closed due to the holiday, and our team stepped up distributing over 120 food items from hot dogs to PBJs, ham sammies, and even brownies and pancakes!

On that note, we did another 100 meals today. One community member yesterday told a volunteer "thanks for looking out for us even though its a burden" and of course we reassured them that this is our duty to each other. No human being is a burden.

Today we had a gentleman cry when a volunteer gave him a bagel. He said its so difficult to maintain sobriety hanging out on the street, and he is so grateful someone reached out with some food and to chat.

Finally, two our of volunteers today are folks no one recognized. We asked how they heard about us, and they shared that they heard about us because they used to eat with us and now they want to help serve.

This is community coming together. To get involved, visit linktr.ee/sundaydistroboise to cook or donate. We continue to need help canning fresh produce as well!!

Requested items-

-help changing a head gasket

-water guns for kids

-XXL clothes

-cigarettes

I'm pleasantly surprised by my community this Independence Day.

I work in the public and attended a couple events today as well and I only saw two people wearing horrendous MAGA merch. Everyone else went with a much more America focused attire and less politician focused.

I live in a tiny, isolated, mostly LDS and majority Conservative town so it was just nice to see most people expressing love for their country and not the men who run it.

Made my way out to the bitteroots

Hiked from Elk Summit trying to get to Issac Lake, was blocked by a fell tree and had to turn back. If anyone has hiked out this way let me know! Its hard to know if there's a good spot to camp there. I posted a few 360 photos that will populate google street view soon

Anyways, anyone know what these white flowers are?

Anyone have books or sources with info about Six Gun Jack and other gem state outlaws?

I've seen pages talking about presentations regarding such figures at museums, but I lack the ability to get to Blaine County, and am mostly looking for sources to read from when work is slow.

What kind of bug is this?

Big guy, wouldn’t stay still and makes this abhorrent buzzing sound. He doesn’t seem to particularly bother anyone, but I’ve never seen a fella like this before
